Title: Sonic Clip

Eso - February 2, 2006 05:41 AM (GMT)
I was reading around and found an explanation of the Sonic Clip being a Sonic > Charge. However, I was watching levithan's video and saw that the pen was spinning longer than a normal Sonic would allow it. Also, his ring finger was bent down all the way. Can anyone tell me precisely what is the Sonic Clip and how to achieve that effect?

Leviathan - February 2, 2006 05:50 AM (GMT)
A Sonic Clip is a Sonic with a Charge in the middle. If you were doing a Sonic Clip 23-12, do half a Sonic, and when the pen is in between fingers 1 and 3, do a Charge, and then do the last half of a Sonic.

sicxer_ - February 2, 2006 01:18 PM (GMT)
Yeah a sonic clip is not actually a sonic > charge, but a 1/2 sonic > charge > 1/2 sonic. So a sonic clip 23-12 is actually a mini combo of charge 23 > charge 13 > charge 12. The charge 13 is where you saw levithan's finger come down, so that there's room to do the charge 13.

Eso - February 2, 2006 02:41 PM (GMT)
I see. So you pretty much "clip" the pen between fingers 1 and 3, but do you have to move those fingers at all to do that charge? Seems that the Charge 13 is the hardest part, since there's so little area contact between 1 and 3.

I'm thinking I should probably start off the Charge 23 near the tips of the fingers and that should set it up so that I can actually clip the pen. Right or no?

sicxer_ - February 2, 2006 03:27 PM (GMT)
The charge 13 is pretty much the same as how you do any charge. Yes the finger will move slightly to make the charge, but remember you already have the motion from the previous charge (charge 23) which can help make that 1 spin in 13.

And the contact surface is not really diffrent from a normal charge. Maybe your fingers are not as flexible, but if the finger in between bends all the way back you should be able to hold the pen properly between 13/24.

If you think this is hard, wait till you try sonic 2x clip. Charge 14 :P

Thanks sicxr

Yeah, I'm thinking that my fingers don't bend that way lol. I'm going to continue practicing this. Once I find out how to do it, I'll post my thoughts. ;)

btw, I aim to be one of the most detailed posters here. Be ready to see huge posts from me hehe.

I don't think the pen really matters, something with weight would help though, like an RSVP MX. Try getting 1 and 3 to touch when you aren't holdig a pen, your fingers need to be flexible enough for that, then once you can do that learn charge 13 and then string it together with a sonic. If you know pseudo sonic that helps too. The main thing is being able to do a charge 13. If your fingers aren't flexible enough to do that try using your other hand to make them touch. Aslong as it doesn't hurt your fingers should be fine, but they get used to that posisition and doing charge 13 should be easier.

sicxer_ - February 9, 2006 02:24 AM (GMT)
1) Apart from pulling your middle finger down, try pulling 13 back as well. This depends on flexibility and practice, nothing much else to explain.

2) The fingers don't exactly need to hold the pen firmly to do the charge 13/24. In fact, I can't even do a proper charge 13 but I can do a sonic clip 23-12. Thats cos the motion in the charge 13 comes from the buildup from the charge 23. I'll put up a video of a sonic clip 2x later if you wanna see how I do a charge without the fingers holding the pen firmly.

Sonic clip 2x for your viewing pleasure.

killsburydohboy - March 5, 2006 03:42 AM (GMT)
If it keeps hitting your middle finger try bending it more, and tilt 1 and 3 forwards so that the pinky gets out of the way.

Yiep - March 5, 2006 09:55 AM (GMT)
As for 13, wich i've now managed, I practised 20 min every day to fold the middelfinger, and only the middelfinger. I folded it down as much as i could on it's own strenght in periods every day. After about four days i could fold it much enough to manage the charge 13. So IMO Sonic Clip's hard part is to fold the mid finger

Joshua - April 9, 2006 05:15 PM (GMT)
Does anybody know where I could find a sonic clip slow-motion video? It always helps me to slow it down.

I'm having a bitch of a time getting this trick.

Well, Sonic clip is a trick i've tried to learn ever since i saw JonyJ do it in Spectrum-collab. Alltough i've never givven it a real chans. But lately i couldnt figure out what to learn, so i took on Sonic Clip again. But i cant seem to manage it! Either i cant fold my middlefinger in enough during the charge 13. Or i cant push my index close enough to my ringfinger, so the pen stops or falls out of my grip.

So now i turn to you guys. Got any detaild waltrough, an high framed slowmo video, or just som experts explenation. What pen to use etc.

its hard to do sonic clip with 1-3 becuz u cant bend ur middle finger all the way becuz of ur ring finger. try putting ur hand face down and try to pick up ur ring finger. its not gonna work...

im still trying to learn sonic clip but 4-2 is much easier

sicxer_ - May 21, 2006 03:52 AM (GMT)
Sonic bust
Hold the pen near the end so that it will be in the index around position when it reaches 13.

Sonic clip
Do a normal sonic, but don't catch the pen in the ending position. Instead, so a charge 13/24 before the catch.

Joshua - May 22, 2006 02:02 AM (GMT)
Thanks sicxer, I got both of these tricks almost completely under my belt now.

I just wasn't sure when / what finger to do the bust part of the sonic bust.

BTW, does anyone find the twisted sonic bust easier than the sonic bust?? ...I do. /shrug

slickhare - June 2, 2006 04:24 AM (GMT)
when doing the charge 13, how far do you pull the middle finger back?

also, how do you notate sonic clips?

Ratboy - June 2, 2006 09:26 AM (GMT)
As far as it needs to! I need to pull mine right back to my palm, although this is still a little painful (probably because I don't practice it enough).

The notation for Sonic Clips is the same as Charge - i.e. Sonic Clip 13.

chanman123 - June 2, 2006 11:35 AM (GMT)
mine goes about a few cm above the palm.

and you're not pulling it back, it's forward

Pinoy - June 2, 2006 02:58 PM (GMT)
backwards... ouch

it takes time and practice really

just learn to stretch ur fingers to the side

Toast - June 2, 2006 07:39 PM (GMT)
not hard, but it does hurt your fingers

if your fingers hurt, its most likely your doing it right

let em hurt liekt aht for awhile, then the pain will goa way, cuz your finges become flexy

Flip - June 2, 2006 09:23 PM (GMT)
i thought they were notated like sonic clip 23-12 or sonic clip 34-23?

I find sonic clip 34-23 (charge 24) much easier than the one with charge 13.

im working on charge 14 and 13 right now.

specter290 - June 2, 2006 11:52 PM (GMT)
when i do sonic clilp 1-3 which is harder then 4-2 because in 1-3 you have to rely on your ring finger which cannot bend all the way, i make my middle finger touch my palm of course but i think the most important part in clip 1-3 is that you must do the charge on the border line of the 1st part of your index finger and ring finger. your first phalahax w/e its called. if not the pen will droop down and the charge will not be in a circiular motion. i made a rising fan clip for thpsb which you can use to see what i did

cam is a little bad and to dark sorry

hi. im trying to learn soniclip 23-12 and charge between 1 3.. but my ringfinger (3) want to go with the bent middlefinger(2) and makes it hard to move the middle finger. but i can move finger 1 pretty well, shall i learn to do the charge with just move the finger 1.? i can do charge between 2 4, i can move my finger much easier there. just tell me how you learned it and how u perform it, and if u had same problem as me. can i stretch upp my fingers? :help:

chuck_C - November 2, 2006 12:53 PM (GMT)
I don't think you sould learn charge 13 only moving 1 finger...
you should try to fold the middle finger whithout folding the ring finger
you have to train to do that before learning charge 13... then you can learn sonic clip 23-12

Eso - November 2, 2006 01:18 PM (GMT)
I can't really do Sonic Clilp 13 so I can't help you on that part.

However, I can do Sonic Clip 24. Normally in a Clip, which involves a Charge motion, the lower finger is the one moving, or in this case finger 4. So if you were to take the same principle and apply it to 13, you should have to move finger 3. I can't do this cause my middle finger is not completely flexible. I think some of the tendons still hinder movement in the ring finger so when I bend the middle finger forward, the ring comes along with it. Makes it harder to control it.

I suggest maybe regularly stretching your fingers and practice moving each of them on their own.

:spin:

Try doing this
If you can't do it at first then just keep trying till you gain indepence in your fingers.

EDIT
Pentix
At the very bottom of the page is where I got the picture.

Bobr - November 2, 2006 06:12 PM (GMT)
I can do sonic clip at all fingers but i have the same problem with fingers. I was can't move my pinky without my ring finger. It's really bad for twisted sonic reverse 23-34, for ring around and for some other tricks. But I just training my pinky all the time when i don't spinning. So now my pinky moving without ring finger. Many people have this problem with fingers. One of my friend can't move thumb without index finger, it look's strange for me :)
So just train your middle finger a lot.

Instead of ripping the picture off Pentix, you could've given a link. Or at least, acknowledge the source. ;)

when learning this trick, should i practice w/ a charge before and after (like i see in most videos) or just by itself? i know that inverse sonic is easier w/ charges.... is Sonic clip the same??

sketching - December 12, 2006 03:07 AM (GMT)
No, the Charge before an Inverse Sonic helps to get the motion going before doing the Inverse Sonic. Since Sonic Clip starts with a normal Sonic, you should be okay just doing the Sonic by itself.

trottsdude - December 12, 2006 05:20 AM (GMT)
omg my pinky is so gay it keeps sticking WAY out when i do it so it gets in the way :help: :help: :help:

MuChO_LoCo - December 16, 2006 07:29 AM (GMT)
is it a single charge 13 or you can hold it however long you want

sketching - December 16, 2006 07:53 AM (GMT)
as much as you want

Nighteye90 - December 27, 2006 06:51 AM (GMT)
I'm having trouble doing the Sonic Clip 13. I can't seem to grip the pen to do the Charge 13 and it ends up falling on my middle finger. I'm able to do a Sonic Clip 24 though yet my knowledge of it doesn't help me on my Clip 13.

MuChO_LoCo - December 27, 2006 07:25 AM (GMT)
if its sliding maybe splash some water on your hands and get charge 13 down first

platinumnerd - January 3, 2007 12:52 AM (GMT)
ive seen the tutorials, the vides, etc. but i still don't see how it's supposed to go. it kind of looks like a poorly done sonic to me. could someone post a vid of sonic clip that's super slow, or better yet, make a vid with the othe hand guiding the pass of the pen so one can see the movements of the sonic clip. somebody please

zblader - January 3, 2007 01:04 AM (GMT)
Sonic Clip:

You do a sonic, and when the ring and index finger touches, you kinda get the middle finger out of the way, and you do charge with the ring and index. Then you finish like a regular sonic.

Maybe my explanation sucks, but at least I tried :). heheh.

RippDrive - January 3, 2007 01:07 AM (GMT)
Sonic clip 23-12
first half of sonic > charge 13 > 2nd half of sonic.

http://www.psconclave.com/wiki/Sonic_Clip

platinumnerd - January 3, 2007 01:10 AM (GMT)
so basically sonic but an extra spin in the middle?

zblader - January 3, 2007 01:11 AM (GMT)
yeah... as simple as that.

platinumnerd - January 3, 2007 01:15 AM (GMT)
darn...i gues i have to work on charge 13, which is hard as hell to me. i was hopin that i can learn sonic clip before charge 13 the way i learned sonic before charge so i can use sonic clip to practice cahrge 13... :pullhair:
