Title: Knive Throwing
tohxinzhan29 - January 5, 2007 08:44 AM (GMT)
Just wandering, who here does knive throwing? I used my mom's old chopping board as target. Most of the time, I hit the board but the knive fell off. However, it's really cool when it peirces through the wood and stays there. I had to stop though, when too much paint got chipped off the walls when I missed.

I've done some in the past. I still have a set of throwing knives and such, but I never got that good. I could never stick it consistantly.

what kind of knifes? kitchen knives?
no doubt nothing is easier to aim than swiss army knife
judging from the big screens, i'd say asia pacific likes smaller knives that puncture at the tip, while atlantic likes big knives and axes that cut and cleave
i personally dont really like knife throwing, theres a handle for a reason and knives have more possible uses (art, utility, and weaponry) when it stays in ur hands
there are special blade tips that are used by different groups for throwing... i think in the US they are usually attributed to ninja, but the military and different kinds of civilians have been known to have used them since a long ways back
generally, missiles, including bullets and arrows, have to break on impact to avoid them being fired back

how can it fall off? most throwing knives are supposed to be wrighted in one end so it'll always hit with the sharp side?

They are, but that doesn't mean it will hit the same side. It takes practice (Like everything else).

I tried using my brother's swiss army knife once and it chipped a good bit off the wall. I never used it again afterwards. Just curious, but how do you guys throw the knives? I tried being stylish and threw it the way pros throw. The knive spun though the air and bounced off the board. in the end, i resorted to throwing the way people throw darts instead of throwing the spinning way.

definitely the "pro" way is the darts way
just cuz its movies doesnt mean its pro (look at some of the ways they hold guns, if the gun was real, they would blow a hole in their stomach)

A Swiss Army Knife is about the worst thing for throwing. It is totally unbalanced and brakes easily.

Actually, we have been talking about throwing knives but exactly what are they? Are they special knives or just kitchen knives? the ones I used to throw was a strong, light kitchen knive.
