What kind of angles do you guys normally use for psin? And what's the best angle in your opinion?
TurbulentTurtle - January 8, 2006 06:45 AM (GMT)
The angle showing the hand?
I have no idea how to answert his question. Are you asking us like if we like to shoot with the camera facing us or away or something?
I like to film with the camera going away from me.

I would say above the hand would be good. Maybe above the hand but a bit tilted.

I have my tripod sitting next to my right shoulder (I spin with my left hand). The camera is at eye-level when I am sitting on the floor. The camera points down and across the body to show my left hand.
I usually spin with my left arm close to me body, this angle allows me to keep my arm in a more natural position while filming. The positioning also allows for a fairly close-up shot if I need it.
The resulting image is also more similar to what you would see when spinning the pen yourself. Pretty cool.

I hold the camera at exactly my head level so when I spin, most of the time what you're seeing is what I am seeing!

I tried that before, the hand in the vid was too big, (zoomed out to the max).
BTW how does the tripod stand sit on your shoulder, I can't make mine sit.

Imagine that as a webcam... That's how I roll.
killsburydohboy - January 8, 2006 04:21 PM (GMT)
I just put my cam on a table, and make it facing me, then I spin. I don't have a tripod or a webcam so I can't get different angles and stuff.

The tripod sits on the ground, right next to my shoulder.

this is the angle i mainly uses for vertical tricks like sonics.

And this is the one I use for horizontal tricks like TA, TS.
Eriror - January 8, 2006 06:24 PM (GMT)
It is different per video.. But most of the time, it's horizontal, to my hand.

i only have 2 hands right hand pen left hand camers only a few angles :(
Ceedgee - January 8, 2006 11:35 PM (GMT)
Been trying out alot of different camera views such as recording on the same hieght as the hand, from eye view, from eye view for a watcher and birdview. I'm using birdview atm as I think it looks better and makes it easier for me to rig up the webcam :D

I think he means he spins with his right hand and holds the camera with his left hand, and so there are limited views. Thats what I do too, so its usually an eye level view only.
The best camera angle depends on the trick ie. which angle can bring out the best view of the pen while spinning like in rob's pictures. If you filmed a neobak from the side you can barely see it spin, and a non-pser might not know what happened. But a top view lets you see it actually spin between fingers.
TurbulentTurtle - January 10, 2006 02:41 AM (GMT)
Well I think that Sketching's idea of the camera showing whatever you're seeing is a good idea. Mostly because most of the time you yourself can see what the pen is doing, so then the camera will be able to catch that too.
patte - January 10, 2006 09:06 AM (GMT)
i let the cam see my palm from above like i am sitting on a chair and somebody is standing and lookin at my hand (and can see the palm not the backhand)
but sometimes for air tricks i go further away so that you can see the pen fly
