Title: Mods And Normal Members
Description: Growing problem
Dark Angel-REX - February 4, 2007 05:08 AM (GMT)
Problem with Mods:
1)
| QUOTE |
1. No spamming - Anything that does not contribute to the topic, or replies like "Cool mod, I like it." or "I agree." is considered spamming. Excessive spam will get deleted and a PM will be sent to you from a moderator concerning your violation of the rules. |
Now let's think about this. For ex:
A guy did something for you so you wanted to tell him "Thanx"
Now would this be considered spam? You are trying to show appreciation. What do mods and members want them to say? "Thank you very much doing so and so" is that waht you want to tell them?
Look, some people are lazy in here, and not many people is going read the "so and so" part because they could tell by reading the last post.
In JEB, "Thank you for your response" or "返事ありがとうございます” Is this the length it should be? I heard someone on this forum got warning for that. Jeb never give warning for this. Do you want them to PM everytime to show appreciation? I think no. I rather just post.
Saying nothing would show that you do not appreciate the other person for helping you. That's a no no. You should at least say "thnk you" or something like that. But this shouldn't be considered a spam

| QUOTE |
2. No flaming - If you guys start going at each other and just start arguing about something stupid in an excessive, over the top fashion and especially if it includes disciminatory remarks, it is then considered flaming, and all participants in the argument are going to get a warning. This includes making sexists and racists comments. |
No, it seems like no one cares when other people flame. Yes sometimes they do get warning, but sometimes no. Mods are trying to do their job...just not enough
3
| QUOTE |
4. No creation of topics that are already made or answered - If you start a topic where the exact answer has already been given in a previous recent topic or sticky, the topic will be locked and you will get a warning. |
No, look, lets say that a topic was made long time ago (Probably 3~up pages before) and someone made a topic (of course if it's in Sticky, that's different...i'm not talking about that) made before. Some people are n00b here, and Search engine is broken. No one is goign to read for post EVERY SINGLE PAGES. I only read until 4 pages, and if not there, i post.
Besides, some people might accidently skip reading a topic and post. Some n00bs do that. Sticky threads are important as well as the search engine. I know Zombo cant do anything about Search engine. Therefore, if the topic was made before over 3~up pages ago, then i think it's OK to post same question unless they are on Sticky threads.
And look, i just looked for a thread on "single choice poll is no longer tolerated" I couldn't find it. What happens if someone make a single choice poll?
Shouldn't the mods, instead of giveing warning level, just ensure them? when i wasn't sure about single choice poll, i got warning in once without being ensured.
It's not fair for people who are n00b and being warned for rules that arn't being completely written on major topics. There should be a topic with VERY SPECIFIC rules.

| QUOTE |
| Rules may be applied in a different context without warning. Moderators reserve the right to circumvent all those rules if need be. |
No, this cannot happen. Let's say that a person went to vacation for a week and rules changed without notification. WTF?
5
Shouldn't members be able to do double posting as long as it keeps a long time (one day) between posts, and as long as he gets a solution?: EX:
A guy asks a question so u reply "Hold on for a day, i' m going to surf the web to find a answer to that"
5 hours later, u come back online and post a solution even though there's a post right before you.
Problem with normal members:
1
Spam and bullshits are being encouraged:
Some people on this forum just spam, then this leads to more spam and flame. Obviously, i think, and i hope many users are using the "Report" function, but some don't. Spam leads to more spam. Flame leads to more flame. Please report.
2
Members are not helping Mods:
As zombo said before, he said members should not act like Mods.
This shouldn't be true.
Look, once again, n00bs here are real n0Obs. Some people might not be aware of rules (as i mention above as a reason) because they could not find it. Member should PM them if it's a n00b. Don't all of the sudden give warning and raise their warning level. It's not fair.
It's like telling a guy who never played baseball and was not interested to know EVEYRSINGLE rule.
No one is perfect
3
Suggestions are being flamed:
Just like the title, it is being flamed instead being discussed. I'm sure someone would flame me with this topic. It happens. Please stop.
4
Being one:
Members, Mods, and Admins should be all-in-one. Right now, Mods and Admins are trying to tell Members to not to warn the "bad guys" and instead report. Obviously, member should be warning them as well (like i mentioned above). But even worse, they are being flamed.
5
n00bs:
-They don't read the rule much.
-They won't search the forum to find a specific rule
So therefore, make a new thread with EVERYSINGLE SPECIFIC RULES written. Not just obvious rules like spam, flame, manners and stuff like that.
This goes for Mods as well but rules need to be VERy specific in order to enforce rules.
THis is a suggestion. Do not flame.
DkGamer - February 4, 2007 09:35 AM (GMT)
first off, this is'nt JEB. We are different communities with different rules.
i would'nt consider saying a simple thank you as spam as you have said.
thats for your first comment anyway
for number four... about the mod thing...
i personally feel that rules are more of a guidelines for the mods. they give out punishments based on how far/extreme the case is.... not everything can be done by rules alone
for number five.... thats what the edit button is for B)
other than that.... nothing much to comment about for now.
true... there are loads of spammers in the boards.... but can you really stop them?
:dunno:
Zombo - February 4, 2007 01:49 PM (GMT)
sigh... didn't we talk about this already?
Thank you is spam. Two words. Are you really sincere when you spend 2 seconds to type this message of thanks? Or are you more grateful towards the person if you tell them why they have your thanks, or even better in PM? No one cares except you and the person you're thanking that you wrote "Thank you", therefore it's spam.
"No, it seems like no one cares when other people flame."
uh yes.
"4. No creation of topics that are already made or answered -
If you start a topic where the exact answer has already been given in a previous recent topic or sticky, the topic will be locked and you will get a warning."
This is general guideline. This is how your common sense should work.
"No, this cannot happen. Let's say that a person went to vacation for a week and rules changed without notification. WTF?"
Like I said, use COMMON SENSE. Mods don't change rules for nothing, and if something you did before now becomes punished, it's because what you did before was WRONG. If you act NORMAL, you will never get in TROUBLE. Stop trying to act on the EDGE.
"A guy asks a question so u reply "Hold on for a day, i' m going to surf the web to find a answer to that""
That post would be considered spam. Why not just post the solution when you find it only?
You worry too much about rules. Mods are human not robots. They don't warn you for everything you did wrong and can warn you for things not on the list. It's all a matter of proper attitude. This is something that should be natural to most people. Just act civil and think of others. Nothing hard about this. If you don't understand how this work then you need to work on your common sense.

QTF .... people worry about it too much.... just use common sense (like he said), dont break the rules, and dont be a jackass, and everything would be fine.... theres no reason to worry/complain about the flaws in the rules, because no matter WHAT the rules are, someone will still be unsatisfied.

Not allowing Single choice poll is not a common sense. how are u gonna explain that? They allow single choice poll in other forums. This is the first forum i ever seen with single choice poll only.

your post makes no sense. In your first sentence you say we don't allow single choice poll, then in your last sentence you say we only allow single choice poll. What?
I think I get what you mean. You think we don't allow MULTIPLE choice poll. That is not true. If you read my warning, it says you can use multiple choice poll if you know how it work. If I see your poll and I clearly see it's broken (meaning the poll is supposed to be single choice but you put it multiple choice) then I will warn you.
Isn't it COMMON sense that you're not supposed to be able to vote YES AND NO AT THE SAME TIME FOR ONE POLL, for example?

Mod points:
1. Pm, PM, PM
Only a completely insecure person would care whether people publically thank them for anything. Forum posts should generally add something to a conversation.
2. I personally take this on a case-by-case basis, warnings are issued if I see it and think it is worth it. It there is only a stupid comment that went no-where, I'll just delete the worthless post. If it's a new member, I'll send a PM letting them know what's up.
3. If I can quickly scan through topics, so can everyone else.
Since there is no search function, I usually merge threads that are far forgotten, I close threads that have another topic that was fairly recent and give a link to keep the most posts in a single thread.
4. If a multi-choice poll is correctly used, it's perfectly fine. Most of the time, it is not used properly due to misunderstanding the meanings.
Zombo - February 5, 2007 10:35 PM (GMT)
another thing, search may be broken, but there is this "sorted by" feature you can use (at the bottom of the thread navigation page). If you know approximately the subject you're looking for, make it filter by alphabetical order (don't forget to set it to show all threads, not just last 30 days or something), then you will see all threads that start with the subject as title.

This has been discussed so many times it's not even funny. The rules were created with the demographic of the board in mind (i.e. mostly young to mid-teens). They're presented more as guidelines than strictly enforced rules because the latter might discourage members from posting at all. Ideally, all spam would be relegated to the Spammer's Bin and members would display proper etiquette and courtesy. As a conscious-driven process rather than a rule-driven one, positive effects MAY be more complete and last longer. The quality of content at UCPSB will improve with the maturation of the members.

You quote yourself as saying '"This is the first forum i ever seen with single choice poll only" then you say "You guys only allow multiple choices". Wtf!?
Well whatever it is, the default is single choice. If you want it multiple choice you have to select the number of choices yourself.

wth are you talking about. Most polls are single choice.
You have been warned once because you did a multiple choice poll that was supposed to be a single choice poll.
firebird - February 6, 2007 03:05 PM (GMT)
I don't know what you're talking about since your post contradicts itself, but I think you're confusing a poll that has multiple answers with a poll that has multiple choices. The answers are the different options in the poll. The choices are the number of answers the voters choose.

ok that's enough, I'm closing this thread. Everytime you post, it just makes your condition worse.
You do nothing but whine and whine.
Look up the word "hypocrite", it fits you perfectly.
If you didn't know how to make polls correctly, then it is your responsability to learn how to use them.
That's like saying "I double-posted because I don't know how to edit".
A warning is just that; it warns you that you made a mistake, so that hopefully you learn from your mistake and don't repeat it again. You don't complain that you get a warning, you just accept it and try to be more careful the next time.
I've never seen a person who's such hell-bent on imposing strict rules. This is not JEB. We don't have black and white rules.
The idea, as firebird said previously, is to develop a good attitude and maintain a friendly atmosphere. Ideally, there should be NO RULES and everybody acts civilized without even needing to think about getting into trouble or something. Unfortunately, those rules still exist because there are people like you who lack common sense and can't even judge if they're doing the right thing, even after getting numerous warnings.
The goal is not to follow the rules perfectly; nobody does. The idea is maintain proper attitude to make the forum a nice place to stay for everybody. Rules are just guidelines that will help you achieve that attitude.
If you can't even understand such a simple concept, then you better leave this place. I suggest you lay low for a while if you don't want the other members to rout you out.
