Title: Comssa Retractable By Dr1v37h38u5 - V2
Dr1v37h38u5 - February 10, 2007 05:57 PM (GMT)
This mod, when i first made it, was very difficult and dangerous to make. after posting my original tutorial, Joshua came up with a method that greatly reduced the difficulty of the mod while making it safer.
one comssa cap is put at great risk of destruction in this mod. if you cannot spare a comssa cap, don't attempt this mod.
okay, continuing on with the tutorial
1 - make a metallic comssa retr without a metal tip on the rear cap. (make a
Comssa Retr. BUT DO NOT PUT THE METAL TIP ON THE REAR CAP!)
2 - take the rear cap and completely remove the nub thingy and the support struts on the inside of the cap. yes. all of it.
There are two ways to do it. You can use a dremel or a different power tool to drill the nub out, cut it out with the x-acto knife (see below).
click the link to find how to reduce sound:
http://z15.invisionfree.com/UCPSB/index.php?showtopic=6194here is where joshua brightened all of our lives by showing us that it is in fact possible to do step 2 with an x-acto knife. he started by sawing through the support struts close to the nub in the cap. after the nub was removed, he very carefully removed the remainder of the support struts. this effectivley eliminates much of the dangerous portion of this mod. this method, while safer, can be more difficult for those without a genuine x-acto knife or sufficient skill with one. When i tried, i ended up with small slashes along the inside rim of the cap.
3 - aquire a pilot g2
4 - take the clicky parts out. you only need the longer of the two.
5 -
*This step is no longer important. ignore it.*6 - Glue the HGG tip onto the G2 clicker.
Make sure that it is on straight. I used epoxy, which is very strong, yet i put the tip on crooked. Wrap a bit of fluffy tissue paper around the G2 portion, but not the HGG tip. The cheap, non-fluffy tissue paper does not work well here. The purpose of the tissue paper is to keep the G2/HGG part from bouncing back and forth. It effectively reduces sound and helps keep the G2/HGG part from coming off.
Notice how the bic clic clicker has two layers? A colored portion surrounding a black core? We need to remove the colored portion. Grasp the bic clic clicker part with pliers.

Pull and
slightly wiggle the colored portion of the clicker until it comes off. Now, with the exacto knife shave off the black core until
1.9 CM of an HGG inktube fits very snugly around it.

Now, stick the G2 clicker part onto the HGG inktube.

Props to fung0wd0d41 for this idea.
7 - now, when you put the cap onto the back of the pen, it should look like a normal metallic comssa.
8 - push the metal tip to click it
if you guys need better pics, just ask i'll be happy to make some more.
it is still a prototype as i am still thinking of ways to reduce the loud clacking sounds it makes when spun. also i'm trying to make it safer to make, allowing more people to make it.
in the mean time, enjoy the vid: (i forgot the eliminate the sound, so you can listen if you want.)

Don't have time to read the whole tut yet, but that is amazing. Good job!
xshadowfire - February 10, 2007 08:38 PM (GMT)
probably one of the best retractable mods since the hg3r :P
Interfector155 - February 10, 2007 09:05 PM (GMT)
Wow. This is by far one of the coolest things I've ever seen. Once you find a way to reduce the sound, this will probably rank among some of the greatest mods ever created.

Looks very very very sweet haha! To eliminate the noise could you not just put a spring between the two clicker parts?
MikeN - February 10, 2007 09:22 PM (GMT)
I'm making this as soon as my comssas come in the mail!
P0T4T0 - February 10, 2007 09:55 PM (GMT)
Looks absolutley awesome. if only I had some comssas
Dr1v37h38u5 - February 10, 2007 10:14 PM (GMT)
please note the withdrawal of the tutorial.
i released it without enough testing. there are flaws in the design and i will do my best to fix them.
anyways. i'll do it as quickly as i can. hopefully i'll get pics for the tutorial also.
again i'll have to warn you guys: this mod is HARD to make.
neXus - February 10, 2007 10:32 PM (GMT)
But its worth it !!! Pwns my mod totally
pser - February 11, 2007 12:04 AM (GMT)
WOAH
hey why did you have to use power tools for?
Dr1v37h38u5 - February 11, 2007 12:59 AM (GMT)
uh. it was in the tutorial. but i'm currently fixing the design of the pen so i took out the tutorial until i finish.
some of you may be confused by this, but i just want to save you guys some time.
this mod is really hard to make.
i used the power tools for the removal of the nub and supporting struts in the comssa cap. this took me about an hour. looking at it, there is a very high chance of failure, resulting in the destruction of a comssa cap. i'm trying to see if there is any way to speed this process up and reducing the risk of mutilating a comssa cap.
also there are design flaws in the retraction mechanism.
pser - February 11, 2007 01:04 AM (GMT)
still i think you should post the tut back, maybe we can all help solve this problem
Dr1v37h38u5 - February 11, 2007 02:37 AM (GMT)
some updates:
i have now started a tesing period for the pen. hopefully, with some new modifications, it will be able to stand under the pressure of slightly harder than normal spinning.
some other things i found out:
the spring must be strong. otherwise the ink does not retract enough.
tissue paper reduced a lot of the sound
do not fret, i will bring the tutorial back soon. i think i've got the problems fixed. now i must test the durablility of the new modifications.
InhumanElmo - February 11, 2007 03:34 AM (GMT)
Dude awesome.... and man u have skinny arms... No Offense. Dam you people and all your Comssa mods. I dun have one :( :GLOOMY:
Dark Angel-REX - February 11, 2007 04:32 AM (GMT)
sexy Sexy SEXY!
Hmmm. another double sided retractable pen!
TayYH89 - February 11, 2007 09:31 AM (GMT)
Wow, really cool mod. I wonder how the retractable work.
bouboule - February 11, 2007 09:38 AM (GMT)
:jawdrop: ouch
that cool i wait for tuto
TurbulentTurtle - February 11, 2007 03:18 PM (GMT)
Another incredible innovative and well made mod. I totally believe you when you say this is hard to make, and I don't think I'm going to be attempting it anytime soon because of my lack of extra comssa caps and laziness ^^
Really incredible mod though. Looking forward to the repost of the tutorial to see how the mechanism works in the pen.
Joshua - February 11, 2007 04:37 PM (GMT)
Hey, I tried removing the nub of the cap without power tools, and heres what I came up with.

Not too much damage at all. I mean, I'm going to try this mod out, so I decided "why not use an X-acto knife?"
I cut around the whole thing like it was butter.

Cosmetically, it still looks exactly like a comssa caps. Without a nub! This was super easy, no damage (but the nub), and it only took 2 minutes!!
neXus - February 11, 2007 05:42 PM (GMT)
Now just do the first mod and glue the nub onto the klicker. Add HGG tip if wanted.
CPC - February 11, 2007 07:02 PM (GMT)
Very nice mod. These mods keep getting better and better.
pser - February 11, 2007 07:46 PM (GMT)
i tried to do this mod with a bictory...didnt work as well as i wanted. How did you get teh tip to stay on?
Dr1v37h38u5 - February 12, 2007 03:20 AM (GMT)
lol, joshua, maybe it's so easy to you compared to me because your strength = billions of me combined (woot skinny asians with big heads!)
...i think it's time for me to get a new x-acto knife maybe. or perhaps bigger arms....
anyways, that's great to hear! thanks a lot joshua. i didn't try that because i though i would slip, leaving a gash through the cap. have you tried removing the support struts yet though? you need to get rid of them for the tip to be able to move...
anyways keep me posted.
and we have an update on the status of the pen.
its holding up very well. the tip only fell off once, that was after i threw it down the stairs :xd:
one thing i noticed is that the tip on the clicker side doesn't stick out as far as the other hgg tip. im' trying to find a way to lengthen the clicker mechanism to fix this.
okay. one more day of testing. this time im' bringing it around with me all day at school. since it's not a nice easy sunday, it'll go through a bit more (lol... maybe not. i don't think i'm allowed to throw it down the stairs...)
with that, look for the tutorial in about 20 - 24 hours from now.

Yessss!!!!!
And nah, I didn't cut with alot of strength. I just kind of.. sawed it very slowly. Like butter, almost. Because it was an X-acto, though, I took extreme care to make sure I didn't harm the cap, and most importantly, my hands.
Once I got the nub off, I just slowly shaved the sides of the support beams to get them off. Comssa caps are pretty weak plastic though, so it was pretty easy.
cadayday - February 13, 2007 12:31 AM (GMT)
ZOMG awsomeness!! its hawt lol its crazy how the clicker part is the hgg tip haha
pser - February 13, 2007 12:41 AM (GMT)
release teh tut.
NAAAAAAAAAAOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Dr1v37h38u5 - February 13, 2007 01:28 AM (GMT)
tut back up. thanks joshua for making it so much easier to complete. now many more people can make this mod!
pser - February 13, 2007 02:25 AM (GMT)
i ma lacking in comssa baodies
so do you think this will work with a hgg comssa? i was thinking maybe take out the back pluf of the hgg and then do what you did for this awesome mod. It should work..in theory. <_<
anyone try it? i will try it as soon as i get my comssa caps and hggs
Dr1v37h38u5 - February 13, 2007 03:01 AM (GMT)
sorry to burst your bubble, but it probably wont...for the simple fact that the HGG barrel is not open enough for the bic clic retract mechanism to fit.
hm... maybe it's time for another mod.... (actually its time to make pics for the tutorial)
i'll see what i can do.
pser - February 13, 2007 08:42 PM (GMT)
hey...the hgg comssa SHOULD work, because then you dont need to put extend the clicking mechanism(you used a g2 cliker, right?) so i think i should work. Anyone know how long jetpens take to ship to you? mine said shipped today in the morning... <_<
Dr1v37h38u5 - February 13, 2007 10:13 PM (GMT)
uh, no i didnt use a g2 clicker.
i used the g2 clicker attached to a bic clic clicker.
but, yeah, a retractable hgg comssa seems to be a feasable idea.
i just dont have any G2's to test this idea out.
pser - February 13, 2007 11:26 PM (GMT)
well i will test it out, as i said earlier. does the metal tip stay on good?
spin~TAP - February 13, 2007 11:36 PM (GMT)
