chanman123 - February 1, 2006 01:33 AM (GMT)
Hey...does anyone know where I can Learn XCM without having to buy a DVD or some kind of Video........
Something Similar to Pentrix except it's XCM??
I looked on google but didn't find anything..
Thanks

Sorry, there are some free tutorials in handlordz and its forum. Those are just some separate moves. If you want to learn more, please get some material to learn. It's not a free hobby.

This is partly why I didn't take up XCM all the way. You can't find many tuts or movies. Basically you just gotta buy the DVDs sold around.
I hear that the ones at www.dananddave.com are good.

Get Jerry's Encyclopedia of Playing Card Flourishes, and/or De'vo's Xtreme Beginnerz.
both are good material to learn from.
Check out handlordz.de if you are interested.
EoPCF is available in flourishman.com

hi, just interested if anyone has done a fingerpass with a playing card before and if using the thumb to help is necessary?
sketching - March 17, 2006 05:27 PM (GMT)
Sure, I also like doing the Fingerpass with my credit card and business cards. I don't use the Thumb.
killsburydohboy - March 18, 2006 02:55 AM (GMT)
I assume it would be a lot harder to get a speed close to fingerpassing a pen because a card has much less mass and therefore less momentum.
sketching - March 18, 2006 03:21 AM (GMT)
Yeah, the credit card usually works the best out of the two, but it is definitely not as comfortable or smooth as using a pen. My Fingerpass with a pen isn't all that fast, so using a card is definitely not fast. :P
TurbulentTurtle - March 18, 2006 05:28 AM (GMT)
I spinw ith cards and other objects a lot, and it gets pretty awkward ony our hands :P
Let's just say a TA with a credit card is hard ;)

fingerpass really isnt nearly as tight as the real deck-only card tricks
Djf - May 13, 2006 02:55 AM (GMT)
I decided to learn how to do a floursih after learning another card trick.. .
Can someone help?
RippDrive - May 14, 2006 02:52 PM (GMT)
Flourishing refers to a style of card magic which focuses on manipulating the cards in aesthetically pleasing ways. A flourish would be any trick which falls under this category, not any trick in particular.
I can only do one handed cut and a few others I really suck at. It's hard to find free tutorials for card manipulation online. Mostly it's just videos and 'buy my DVD.'
Djf - May 15, 2006 10:18 AM (GMT)
Oh.. on wikipedia it had a pic of some guy with the cards flying from one hand to another and said he was doing a flourish.
Well whatever it's called I want to learn to do the trick when the cards fly from one hand to the other.. .

I believe the move you are referring to is the Card Spring. Many magic books cover it, but the Encyclopedia of Playing Card Flourishes (EOPCF) has the best technique, IMO.
Flourish is a term commonly used by magicians. It basically refers to fancy moves (usually done with cards?) that do not serve a direct purpose for the magic trick itself. Flourishes are usually used to enhance the presentation of a card trick/routine.
There is a completely separate brand of card manipulation which uses only "flourishes" and does not involve magic tricks. Xtreme Card Manipulation relies solely on these display of skills to create a routine that is equally as entertaining to watch. If you are looking for card tricks, I suggest you search in magic forums. But if you are looking to learn card manipulation, then search for XCM.
Yes, I know how to do the Card Spring, but I don't feel it's right if I took the information I learned from a book, then posted here without the author's permission. I know the EOPCF is expensive, but if you like this type of moves, the book is worth every penny.

Do you know anywhere that you can get like a free demo of a trick since I don't want to spend a good $30 ~ $50 on something I don't know I really like yet. . .
kam - May 15, 2006 10:50 PM (GMT)
http://www.handlordz.com/ has a few free tutorials. Not exactly on the Card Spring, but they are pretty cool moves.
The Learning Center at the Handlordz forums also have some nice tutorials.
http://p210.ezboard.com/fsuperhandzfrm104If you do join the forums and post there, do yourself a favor and do not use the term "flourish" :) Probably a good idea to read their rules as well, since magic discussion is does not belong there (last I checked).
If you really want to learn the Card Spring, one suggestion I have for you is to start building up the strength on your fingers. You'll definitely need it. Just don't overdo it.

think thats a cool version of manipultion.I think thats a part from XCM put i think you can count it as 1 mnipulation.
Me doing card spini think there are some variations like throw it while it sins and it spins at the back palm or something but i think taht is very hard
kensai - October 14, 2006 02:26 AM (GMT)
Very nice; do you find if it helps PS in any way or any PS tricks makes it easier to do?
Cyril - October 14, 2006 09:25 AM (GMT)
How do you do that ??
I've tried it but i just won't work :help:
Sh1ma - October 14, 2006 11:02 AM (GMT)
You must place your middlefinger in the center of the card, then you push the card with your indexfinger and your ringfinger.
Dont push to hard because the card will fly away...... :D
Aldmer - October 14, 2006 11:11 AM (GMT)

Doesn't really look to be worth learning.
Do you have links to videos of people doing this to a high standard?
I wanna see card spinning at it's limit.
Zombo - October 15, 2006 01:46 PM (GMT)

If you want to learn xcm I'd recommend going through tutorials at youtube and if you like it, buy Xtreme beginnerz and the encyclopedia of playing card flourishes smile.gif
www.handlordz.de
www.flourishman.com
Lol i'm such a walking talking typing commercial, but seriously these products are the best
I just copied and pasted this, I wonder if the person who originally wrote it will recognize it.
ShoeMan - July 29, 2007 08:11 AM (GMT)

yeah, i've started XCM last week, and idk, it's pretty cool, i think...i can do a decent fan, a simese fan(spelling?), some cuts and stuff...the big thing that i don't really like is that it's not exactly as organized as penspinning, as there's no like catagories, fundamentals, naming committee and stuff, and lots of cuts and stuff are open towards creativity, thus people just make their own tricks and give random names and stuff, so it's hard trying to keep up with all of them...otherwise, it's great, i especially like this guy name the cuso or something, i've learned like all his cuts cuz they look awesome
