Title: Triangle Pass

Multiplex - September 12, 2006 09:37 PM (GMT)
I learned this trick a while back and is there any way to incorporate this trick into a combo. Also is there any variants to this trick. thanx :2p2h:

xz64 - September 12, 2006 11:54 PM (GMT)
try it after a wiper reverse (more horizontal than vertical), I just noticed it links together well.

also try to perform a triangle pass before a thumbspin / TA or after a thumbspin/ TA

RippDrive - September 13, 2006 12:08 AM (GMT)
I haven't tried this but I'm sure there is some way you could link it with a basketball spin.

xz64 - September 13, 2006 12:21 AM (GMT)
The triangle pass would flow better if you did it reverse after a basketball spin.

rorixbladewing5 - September 18, 2006 10:51 AM (GMT)
What exactly is a Triangle pass? How do you do it?

Quick question.. ummm for this trick, when u replace ur finger it just goes under right? And does the thumb go under as well?

Edit:Plus u should do it at the COP right? or should it be done close to it? Not sure... This is killing me :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Flip - July 16, 2007 07:49 PM (GMT)
I do my Triangle Passes at the COP [or close to it].

The thumb/other fingers go "under" the pen I guess, but another way to think about the Triangle Pass is just a series of passes done at the finger tips:
[hold the pen between the tips of the T and 1]
Pass Reverse T1-T2 ->Pass Reverse T2-12 -> Pass Reverse 12-T1 -> (repeat)

Eso - July 16, 2007 08:28 PM (GMT)
How do you do that at the fingertips?? Video tutorial please.

en814 - July 16, 2007 08:57 PM (GMT)
I was thinking the samething Eso :vhappy: :vhappy:

Would u guys agree to start the triangle pass lower if ur first learning or should we just start at the tip of the fingers?

sketching - July 16, 2007 09:53 PM (GMT)
I would just start at the tips. It's really not difficult if you start out REALLY slowly and work your way up in speed. A video tutorial really isn't needed.

Here's a quick written tut:
- Hold the pen at the COP between the Thumb & Index finger.
- Place the Middle finger directly next to the Index finger, opposite side of the pen from the Thumb.
- Remove the Index finger and move it next to the Thumb.
--- the pen may rotate slightly at this point, but nothing major.
- Remove the Thumb, the pen should rotate about 1/4 turn and only be between the Index and Middle fingers.
- Place the Thumb next to the Middle finger.
- Let go of the Middle finger and let the pen rotate another 1/4 turn.
- The pen is now back between the Thumb and Index finger, having done a 1/2 rotation.
... repeat as many times as you want.

Start out really slow until your fingers get used to the small movements. Speed up as you feel comfortable.

The Reverse just goes in the opposite direction.

I have a lack of ideas what tricks can be linked into Triangle Pass. Any help?
Thanks in advance!

ShortAssassin - August 1, 2007 06:17 PM (GMT)
When the pen is in 12 you could IA, you could TA at nearly any point, an aerial would probably work well, or you could just Rev Pass down the hand.

Tainted Elements - August 1, 2007 06:39 PM (GMT)
twisted sonic
pass/pass rev

thats all i can think of right now.

chungy - August 15, 2007 02:22 AM (GMT)
Pretty much anything that you could combo in/out of IndexAround would work.

frisbee - August 15, 2007 03:21 AM (GMT)
twisted sonic 23-12 -> pass rev 12-t1 -> triangle pass and reverse fingerpass -> pass rev 12-t1 -> triangle pass are the two easiest ways

AzNwAr3oR - August 15, 2007 04:34 AM (GMT)
I've never seen anyone use a triangle pass before... Or maybe I haven't been observant enough. But I found twisted sonics and finger passes good ways to get to Triangle passes and TA afterwards.

DaThroat - August 15, 2007 08:28 AM (GMT)
i use triangle pass... or at least i try to..

jeremyt - August 15, 2007 09:13 AM (GMT)
yup..bonkura is also another crazy triangle pass man. really cool check out his solo vids!

theipodpeople - August 17, 2007 11:48 PM (GMT)
thanks for actually explaining something Sketching!

Nice. How fast/smooth do you have it? I did one in my PSL round 4 video, back in February I think, but haven't worked on it much since. It's definitly not an easy trick.

triangle spin was once an obscure trick rarely (and by rarely, I mean never) used in "performance" combos, until bonkura decided to pull it off so smooth that everybody started to copy him.

I am hoping the same happens to my tricks. Please bonkura, pull off a indexspin triple transfer next time! kthxbye.

frisbee - August 18, 2007 05:07 AM (GMT)
whatever, triangle pass is a cool trick. i learned it from pentrix myself before i knew who bonkura was.

@flip: I can do it smoothly, but kinda slow, & i'll drop it before too long. its really hard but ive been doing it a lot. I really cant do it without the weight of a kt holding it in place but i'm hoping to work down to an mx once i get a little better at it.

The problem (or more reason) is that your tricks are mentally insanely hard. They might be the best tricks out there, but they are also some of the hardest, and pen spinners are lazy. When the technical skill goes up, hopefully people will be doing them in combos though :)

If more pros used rare tricks in general, would that mean that more pen spinners in general started to use them?

/a bit of topic but what you gonna do you know?

This is correct. Using just me as an example gives a few options to choose from. Twisted Sonic Bust Rise/Fall, BackAround 1.5 Fall, and the likes. From popular Korean spinners, also a lot of tricks, like the MiddleBak combo and the BackAround 1.0 Fall. Zombo mentioned Bonkura.

Most people are waiting for others to think of something cool, and then decide to follow the lead.

Michael - August 18, 2007 06:06 PM (GMT)
hooray for palmspin wich i still don't see in many combo's nowadays

bout the triangle pass, i myself did it in my ps olympics vid, and i know that a french penspinner did it in eurocollab 2, can't remember who it was tough, soo yea maybe we'll see more and more traingle passes in combo's in the future...

He's got his own style... Who cares what moves people use, it's penspinning, you use whatever tricks you want.

While it is true that people follow others, copying styles and certain tricks, some people are different and they add their own moves like Bonkura. He doesn't need to copy anyone. People copy him because he does a variety of tricks and combos that are classy; original along with newer moves. He's a new generation spinner that people look up to.

People hardly know about Zombo's amazing index spins because they probably don't even know where to find them, never heard about them or never seen them. You ask a few new generation spinners what UPSB and they'll know squat.

But anyone, ON TOPIC nubs...

You can pretty much do ANYTHING in 123.... TA, IA, FL's, Rev.'s, Pass, Sonic, Bak, etc. Everything.

Mess around with simple 12 tricks and you'll find something. I just found a bunch that can link, however my Triangle Pass is just awful... So I probably wouldn't use a Triangle Pass in my combos. Not for me. Corkscrew, yes. <3
