Description: Put it all in here!

Sathon - February 19, 2007 02:38 AM (GMT)
G'day here's the first round submission.

http://www.alexsimpsononline.com/firstround.html

I-am-owned

Edit, lol Zombo you don't have to do that I'm happy enough. Thanks anyway.

Toast - February 19, 2007 02:42 AM (GMT)
WOW.

I DONTKNOW WHAT TO SAY

And any battles with penzone or kitcat will not be posted until tuesday, since the chinese are celebrating new years.

I never knew there were such skiled spinners in the world. it looks like we are some competition to the koreans/japanese after all!

and bonkura.

...........

DO FINGERS EVEN BEND LIKE THAT? WTF?!!?

Zombo - February 19, 2007 03:01 AM (GMT)
that stall / bend is amazing from bonkura... such flexibility, reminds me of the goddess' hands in Yakitate Japan.

Zombo - February 19, 2007 03:03 AM (GMT)
Most battle videos are out, check it out:

Discuss first round videos here, predict winners etc...

Joshua - February 19, 2007 03:06 AM (GMT)
The curling and bending of his index during the first part of Bonkura's combo made it look like his hand was a scorpian. It was rad!

I'm pumped to see the results. Beautiful videos, everyone!! I can't wait to watch the rest of these in class tomorrow! hahahaha

Eso! You've gotten so much better since the last time I saw you spin! Go, man, go!

and btw,
Toasty FTW.

Toast - February 19, 2007 03:33 AM (GMT)
Wow..

i just

...

Bonkura is going to do very poorly in this tournament.

One of the factors is "speed".

this was his score from a pds judge.

edited. (low speed score)

I dont want to argue against that, as it seems reasonable...

But speed is kind of like style...and just because ones style may not be to spin fast, does not mean that they should be handicapped for the rest of the tournament.

EDIT- ROFL stehpens bg!

hahahaaahaha at the end the person raises his arms.

how do you know scores from a judge, and are you even allowed to release them beforehand.

and shrug... speed should be read not as a "as fast as possible" criterion but as a "appropriately fast" criterion... if the speed is perfect for the style displayed, then it should be high.

actually, it was on the video itself...

but i will remove it anyways.

Zombo - February 19, 2007 03:42 AM (GMT)
Ah yes I see it, in the comments.

well is it even a real judge or just some random guy writing his toughts?

I hope judges were given clear instructions on the judging criterions...

Foofdude - February 19, 2007 03:48 AM (GMT)
Wow...

Bonkura's hands are absolutely insane.

There are also a lot of other good people in the tournament. It's going to get interesting toward the last couple of rounds.

Eso - February 19, 2007 03:56 AM (GMT)
Bonkura's almost made me piss myself. That stall was amazing, but what he did right after that was the killer. Wow

This first round is becoming very interesting.

Is it just me or does KTH's look like an old video? It just seems like deja vu.

I believe that's called "Recycling generic looking combos"

Eso - February 19, 2007 04:06 AM (GMT)
Ah yes. Complacency takes the stage.

Anyways some of the scores I saw on the putfile pages seem kinda blah.

RWBspin - February 19, 2007 04:16 AM (GMT)
Did you see Banz??? He was good with that grip aviare, obviously the grip in the middle didnt effect him much

RandomNewb - February 19, 2007 05:59 AM (GMT)
I'm angry because the PDS Judge is prejudice against Bonkura or something... And he's amazing... The most original spinner in the world...

I agree with Toasty, your speed, your smoothness, that is your style of spinning, you can't really judge that. I mean, how slow do things have to be? Would you grade a slow spread 222222222 poorly, etc, etc.

But really good videos overall. GPC really stick out like a sore thumb to me for some reason. <_< All I see are GPC vs (Asian) countries. Heh.

blackhero - February 19, 2007 06:24 AM (GMT)
wow pds people are amazing..all i could say

bonkura is original but too bad creativity is out of 10

QUOTE (RandomNewb @ Feb 18 2007, 09:59 PM)

maybe we are the one prejudicing that bonkura is good

cuz most ppl in pds are not exposed to many jap vids

no offence to bonkura, i admire him too
but Nanna pwned bonkura this round in my opinion.

Eriror - February 19, 2007 07:08 AM (GMT)
I crapped my pants when I saw Deity... Then he started messing up. Damn, I almost slapped myself for not making a better combo, haha. I don't hope that's the real PDS judge, though. =/ I wonder how I can get smoother.

Most of the videos I saw made me gouge my eyes out. For example.. Toast? Geez, you're like.. insane. I'm doubting my chances at victory, to be honest.

DkGamer - February 19, 2007 09:07 AM (GMT)
hmm posting some comments on random videos that i have seen... im not going into detail...

Deity
smoothness 9/10? Ur kidding me. It was a good try... but it was too repetitive for my liking... and the ending drop was just... terrible

Toast
ur ending was great... but ur beginning was weak... especially the t1 charge. it had too much jerk in it. but still, u improved tremendously.

Banz
very difficult combo. thumbs up to the palm spin at the end

Taeryong
because of the quality of the clip, it made it extremely nice to look at

Fratleym
You improved a ton..

Bonkura
the clip that blew me away the most

Nanna
Looked like a fingerpass combo...[thats just me]

zblader
your video capturing improved alot... much better lighting and angle

ceedgee
i was kinda disappointed to be honest... i can still remember ur smooth continuous shadows

Ryo
Visually appealing

Something that confuses me it that. why are they judging the clips based on how fast it goes? we do not need more high speed spam combos where we cant see anything happening. slow or high speed, both can be eye-pleasing. the criteria of judging speed should not be on how fast it goes but on the variation of it.

P.S im just stating my honest views on those clips... dont take them too seriously... im not here to flame.. im here to share my views B)

Ivan the Terrible - February 19, 2007 09:24 AM (GMT)
Eek I wonder if I'll get into the next round, I didn't expect Spin to do something like that. Some of the vids are just amazing.

I agree with Zombo and dkgamer, I was thinking about this yesterday. If they'll judge the speed or how much the speed fits the combo.

fratleym - February 19, 2007 10:57 AM (GMT)
This tournament is a great chance to show that they are skilled spinners out of korea and thx to Crash for making this up

Anyway, crash told me that the judges will judge the speed part especially on the combo, if it fits the combo, if it deserves the spinner. the speed part is only base on the style, dont worry most of the judges will judge the speed of bonkura well in my sense.

anyway good job y'all many crazy vid, it makes me exciting ^^

CrAsH - February 19, 2007 11:28 AM (GMT)
Hi Guys,

I don't think this pds judge clearly understood not to write down the scores like that, i will ask him to take them off, and keep them for himself.

Yeah that video from Bonkura was stunning, he also gave me some of his practise videos before hand which were also very amazing. Nanna's video was good, but i was a little disappointed because he did some amazing practise videos which were a lot better, yet he chose that video, but i suppose it's up to him :)

Eriror's combo was amazing also, gosh there are so many good combos lol. Im going to post up some more videos tonight when i get home. A few UCPSB spinners gave me their videos before midnight there time, i was well asleep here, so ill post them up tonight when i get home.

Yeah this is a chance to see spinning that not many people get to see often, nd i hope everybody enjoys this tournament. :)

Take care guys,

CrAsH

Zombo - February 19, 2007 01:14 PM (GMT)
I've just seen Nanna's combo and I have NOT seen anything that rivals the stall AND the last aerial trick. That last trick was of pure beauty.

It was a very fast very solid combo, but if bonkura's speed is 4/10 on that one, then Nanna's creativity would be 3/10 for me. Of course I would judge neither bonkura's speed that low, nor nanna's creativity. heh.

Eriror - February 19, 2007 01:16 PM (GMT)
In my eyes, speed could be based of several things:

Speed according to style
Speed according to different parts in the combo
Speed to show difficult parts in combo: Put more power in it [goes along with above]

I mean... You can have some slower parts to show how difficult it is, or faster parts to blow people away. But solely fast isn't always good.

If the judges would look at that, it would be a lot more fair.

spinofdoom - February 19, 2007 01:21 PM (GMT)
bonkura just pwned

firebird - February 19, 2007 01:39 PM (GMT)
Pens that are too long should lower the difficulty rating too.

Dark Angel-REX - February 19, 2007 01:46 PM (GMT)
Bonkra pwned ass...PDS is against bonkura or something right? i dunno

MikeN - February 19, 2007 02:38 PM (GMT)
WHOAAA
Sweet stall by bonkura
that was just amazing...

I think the PDS judge judged too leniently (sp?). I think a 10 should be the "absolute best and noone could ever do better" score that should almost never be given.

The average score someone gets should be five or six...

Anyway, impressive spinning from around the world!
I never knew there were that many good people!
:jawdrop:

fratleym - February 19, 2007 03:06 PM (GMT)
anyway, for the score scale, it doens't matter if a judge give better scores than another one, it keeps the probability as he gives the same scale for every battles he judges.

RandomNewb - February 19, 2007 04:32 PM (GMT)
I still think Bonkura will win, Nanna did the same Korean stuff over and over again... Boring...

If the judges had a chance to look at many of the spinners older clips and see how much they improved Bonkura would recieve like 99999/10 for creativity and originality...

I think it's fine to post the scores on the comments if all the judges do that, or else just wait until the end and show it as the final results for each round or something. I dunno how Alex is doing it.

kohai - February 19, 2007 04:44 PM (GMT)
WOW those were awesome videos.... i really liked bonkura's video  :vhappy:
well so did everybody else. also nanna's video... nice pen too :P

CrAsH - February 19, 2007 05:37 PM (GMT)
Im going to collect all the results from all teh judges on monday evening, and i will post up the winners of each battles.

Yeah Nanna has a nice red MX, im lucky he is trading it with me lol. That pen has a lot of story to it also. Cloud Traveler said that pen was special, apparently he said he also used it before a few times. He won the pendolsa offline battle with that 1 pen throughout the tournament, he learn't most of his pinning with that pen.

fitzgeraldhimself - February 19, 2007 05:41 PM (GMT)
I orgasmed to Cheukii's video!

Yea I hate that PDS Zerg he gives 8/10 for smoothness on some of the best videos my eyes have ever laid eyes on and THEN he gives 10/10 on smoothness for a infinity and a thumbaround.

that would be unfair to the people who have made alot of vids. also to the ppl who actually made their own korean style, just to get lumped with the rest of them.

when judging, you have to look solely at the combo, none of this outside stuff. otherwise its jus prejudice

Dr1v37h38u5 - February 19, 2007 06:39 PM (GMT)
wowow...
bonkura's fingers are so.... bendy...

i haven't watched them all yet, but so far, this is gonna be a great tournament.

Eriror - February 19, 2007 08:03 PM (GMT)
The ones I prefer/will think will win, sorry if you don't agree with my opinion.

Spin (GPC) vs Ivan the terrible (UCPSB)

Blackhero (UCPSB) vs Pe/Pdr (Swespin)

Flip (UCPSB) vs Schwede (GPC)

Toast (UCPSB) vs DaftSystem (FPSB)

zblader (UCPSB) vs Scelus (FPSB)

Donk3y (UCPSB) vs Mouquette (FPSB) - Can't say yet, but I think Donk3y.

MAA (UCPSB) vs Mizm (JEB) - Can't say, MAA has no camera either. =/

Sathon (UCPSB) vs ps-728 (JEB)

Gollumsk8 (FPSB) vs Eso (UCPSB)

Eriror (UCPSB) vs Deity (KitCat)

To be honest, I've read everywhere that gollumsk8 would own Eso. I don't see why. Eso has improved tremendously in my eyes and did something new whereas gollumsk8 was pretty much... I don't know.. Not as good. I think that one would be the biggest surprise to most... But oh well.. Everyone did a great job, I can't wait to see how this will end!

fitzgeraldhimself - February 19, 2007 08:03 PM (GMT)
I don't get it so only a korean judges the first round videos?

No, only he was smart enough *cough* to post his scores. =/ The others are probably still rating and sending their scores to CrAsH.

Eso - February 19, 2007 08:31 PM (GMT)
I thought Banz's was good. Then he called me "pauvre Eso" I still think his combo was good though.

I still think that speed is a bogus category. Things like difficulty, smoothness, and creativity can be measured without TOO much subjectiveness, but speed is something that's dependant on style. Yea yeah, those other things are too, but at least they're valid (IMHO) grounds for competition. Iono. :metal:

technically measuring speed is really the least subjective(jus whether its fast or not) the problem is the degree of importance it has to the combo.

creativity is the most subjective since there is no definite standard(and never will be) for measuring creativity. n
