Title: Aerials
MuChO_LoCo - February 28, 2007 01:24 AM (GMT)
Is there any way to master aerials ~95% of the time? For me its mostly luck and I cant seem to get it every time. Like thumb snap, I can get the release every time, but I want to get to the point where i can just do it and the pen flies directly up and down without having to worry about it flying off. Usually I have to move my hand a few inches to a foot and it doesnt look too good. Its not only on thumb snap, like every aerial like backhand bounce how the hell to you control it?!?
tips plz? :)
SeYoon - February 28, 2007 02:20 AM (GMT)
pretty much what i do is i launch it high enough so i can see the rotations while its in the air and then time the catch with the rotations. if you don't like throwing it that high, i suggest still trying to time the catch. I can't really think of anything else that will help.
p.s. where did you find a black bic stic to make your bictory?
trottsdude - February 28, 2007 03:47 AM (GMT)
for thumbsnap you hold your hand completely still and vertical, idk about bakriser cant get that one good myself...

MuChO_LoCo - February 28, 2007 05:03 AM (GMT)
yeah but aerials are the hardest to practice because you can't do it in school xD
o.O my bictory is white.. i have mariott hotel black body but i dont use it because i only have 1 color of caps

my only advice is when you do an aerial, decide beforehand how many revolutions you want the pen to do in the air, don't just throw it and let in spin without caring and expect to be able to catch it without a problem..
MikeN - March 2, 2007 01:19 AM (GMT)
The only aerial i can do with any consistency is an aerial TS, but I can't catch it anywhere else except for my palm...
I guess it's like anything else, just practice...
Simån - March 2, 2007 02:29 AM (GMT)
I find it very easy to catch aerials... i dont know if it is becaude i am a juggler too, but it isn't really that hard to catch aerials... You dont have to have a fixed number of rotations you want to make...
You just...
Send the pen up...
Watch the show...
When you want to catch place your hand the place you think it will fall down...
You shape your hand like the end position of a TA, but with a little more space between you middlefinger and your index...
Then you just cacth it between your index and middlefinger, like the way you would hold a cigarette...
If you do it right, it is almost impossible to drop the pen, no matter how it lands...
You can catch the pen the same way between 23 and 34... To catch 34 is a little harder, it might take some practice...
I catch it 9/10 of the time between 12... 4/5 of the time 23... and ½ 34...
And i haven't practiced that much...
I'm not bragging i just want to say that it isn't that hard if you got the right technique...
That is just the catch, you can use that for all aerials... the throw is just about practice...
Mats - March 2, 2007 02:57 AM (GMT)
I think aerials are more difficult to get consistant than other tricks however, there seems to always be that chance you will drop it...
Aerials I guess, are risky, and never will be at 100%. The only thing you can do is practice to get close to that.

Thanx for the tut, I would always see the aerials performed in videos and never thought Id be able to stick em so smoothly, Thanx to Asian Tim Ive now officially stepped my ps game up!!!
TiNY - July 12, 2007 02:00 AM (GMT)
Yeah I always see em doing it, but I thought it was more complex than that. Thanks for showing me how an asain really does it XD
Btw the easiest Ariel to release and catch (IMO) is NeoSonic 23 Release. Hold the pen in 23, lift 3 up while bending 2 just like a NeoSonic, but with more force to release the pen. The easiest way to accomplish this is to do Twisted Sonic 23-12 -> Pass Rev 12-23 -> NeoSonic Release 23. The TWSonic and the Pass done quickly provide a nice momentum for the release. The cool thing about this is it requires no hand movement to launch the pen. I'd post a video but no cam right now, it's pretty easy to figure out anyways.

Not sure i understand the releasing of the TA Release. Do u just throw it up a bit like a jolt or is it like an instinct throw after starting the TA?
Asian Tim - July 13, 2007 04:49 PM (GMT)
umm like a jolt.
umm.
Balance your pen on your middle finger (or finger of choice) so your middle finger is parallel with the floor or table.
Then just give it a little quick jolt of force upward and thats pretty much what it is.
http://media.putfile.com/asdfasd-24-57hopefully that helps.
@ TiNY- yeah neosonic one is pretty easy to do. I also like the MA release too. Its like the same concept.
en814 - July 13, 2007 06:36 PM (GMT)
Thxs Asian Tim that helped alot. Now I just need to figure out how to balance it on my thumb when i do the TA
Edit: One more thing Tim, ummm how far should the pen go up in the air if u throw it up correctly?
Asian Tim - July 14, 2007 03:54 PM (GMT)
it depends.
i've had some ariels that barely had any hand movenent and touched the ceiling.
others don't go high at all.
maybe average would be umm.... like up to your chin/nose. probaly lower.
but remember it all depends.

I'm not that good at aerials but..
if you are practicing, try not to get the air spin too fast, as it will be difficult to catch when it comes back down.
en814 - July 15, 2007 01:48 AM (GMT)
Thxs guys u helped me alot ^^
Hey Tim are u planning to do anymore tutorials on aerial tricks? U look like the only person who does them often besides Eirror and a few other pen spinners I seen.
Icepray - July 19, 2007 02:28 PM (GMT)
I don't find aerials too hard, the one tim showed... I did it by myself soon after I learnt the my first TA, I catch it differently tho! His is much cooler. I also use aeriels after my twisted sonic and when I do a backround. It's always the same concept, raise your hand and the pen goes up :teach: . Then I just catch it in either 34, 23, 12. It's like catching a ball =), just need to open up you're fingers, keep your eyes on the ball and voilà in the finger slot lol. I can do a video tho I don't see the use, I'm not a very very good spinner but I find my aeriels look a bit like Tim's just spin a bit less and my speed isn't like that, I do a good 2-3 spins and catch it. I always prefered slower spins, in penspinning, while on a trampoleen or snowboarding lol

umm yeah i guess i could.
their is a few tricks that i can still describe.
en814 - July 20, 2007 01:41 AM (GMT)
Cool XD, i think i'll try to mess with the aerials tricks when I have a chance. Catching seems like the only hard thing about aerials.
Thxs Tim   *I bow in ur greatness with aerials* :spin:

When you do the shadow riser does the pen continue to spin when it lands on your hand or do you just catch it between your fingers?
Crzyazn - August 3, 2007 02:00 PM (GMT)
@CPC: I'd like to develop it as a "finishing trick", so I try to catch it without extra spins
