PS battles have always turned around the same pot: 1 vs 1 battles that have very little depth or strategy.

Team-based Pen Spinning (Team-spinning) is a new and exciting way to compete where spinners compete in teams, developped by the PSRD (Research Department).

The basis of the game is to match up players from opposing teams in seperate matches, and the team who wins the most matches is winner (roughly, it's more elaborate than that).

This format is unique because it requires the presence of a "manager", which coordinates his/her players while making tactical decisions to improve the matchups.

This format is bound to be very exciting and shows a lot of depth and tactics. Mind games and team morale add another dimension to PS battles.

This format is still in its early stages; we need your help!

The PSRD is organizing a simple team vs team battle to begin (not a whole tournament), to see how the system holds up.

Depending on how many people volonteers for this, we will adjust the size of the teams accordingly. Realistically, we are looking for teams of no more than 7 (so 14 spinners in total).

We also need 2 managers. Managers will not pen spin, but they need to be particularly witty and like to play mind games and outsmart the opponent. They must also have a clear understanding of the rules, so that they can exploit all its features to gain a tactical edge. They must also have good leadership skills and be able to coordinate a team.

What we will do is add every spinner to the pool and managers will in turn pick players to form their team. Some spinners may not be selected, if there are more spinners than spots open.

The whole battle will take approximately one month.

I also need judges! PM if you want to judge this battle. You must understand mostly how the judging system work or have a keen PS eye.

This registration is open to all, even people in the research department! In fact, I would encourage researchers to participate so that they can produce detailed feedback to improve the format!

i feel lik ucpsb really doesnt have that many spinners for a team this big. maybe smaller teams lik 3 would be better

this is just a test, I really don't care about the talent of the spinners involved. The format is flexible enough to suit smaller tournaments for 4 spinners up to worldwide tournaments of 7.

The reason I need bigger teams is to test the tactics and depth of the managing positions.

I recommend gizzard and strat to get familiarized with the various tactics of the game (see my scenario thread), as well as knowing your potential teammates.

The draft will go like this:

Coin toss to determine first picker. Let's call the first manager A, second manager B.

A picks 1
B picks 2
A picks 1
B picks 1
A picks 1
B picks 1
A picks 1
B picks 1
...
A picks 1.

For a total of 7 players on each side.

B gets 2nd and 3rd pick to balance the first pick of A. After that everyone just pick in turn their players.

The draft itself will be a live event, probably held in the chatroom. Spinners do not need to attend the draft, but I will make the date and time of the draft public so all are welcome to assist.

So yeah... I need to know what time gizzard and strat are available sometimes at the end of this week or next week to do the draft.

kk makes sense to me. Im not really available this weekend, however since gizzard and I live in the same area, we get home from school at the same time... so around 4 PM eastern will probably be good for both of us on any week day. Give a date and we can verify our schedules.

Actually now that I think about it, we'll both be at my house (or his house) after school on Friday, so we can do it then if enough people have joined by then.

PS- since we're the managers, and the only two people who could think the other person is cheating, could us two just do the draw privatley and just post the results? No one could accuse us of cheating, as neither of us want the other to win LOL

the pool is complete. I will add more players to the pool but we now have enough to make 2 teams of 7. This means certain spinners may not be picked. If you're not, it's not that big of a deal, seeing how the battle is friendly.

I've asked help from FPSB spinners too to help fill the teams.

Strat and Gizzard, please make your selection this coming friday.

BTW, I have all my judges.

KK will do.... though it will be much more difficult than simulated battles, as I've never seen some of these people spin, so i dont know how to pick <_<

some videos from everyone would be helpful, but that would take alot longer...

true, that's why I'm asking people to send in sample clips. You can ask people to give you clips too. If I get sample videos, I'm posting them next to the spinner's name in the pool list.

I only start the matching rounds Monday, so you basically have from now till the end of the week to get to know the spinners. If you don't want to do the draft friday night, that's fine with me as long as you do it before Monday.

PS-is there any any way for there to be 2 seperate chatrooms for the two teams to discuss strategy, or maybe make seperate group things (like the RD) only visable to the teams, or something like that? or since its only a practice mock-up thing does it not matter...

spinners don't have to understand much: you'll face off either in a singles or a doubles match.

If it's singles match, you do a video thats better than who you're facing.

If it's doubles match, you need to know your partner, discuss who's filming the first part, who's filming the second part, and what transition are you gonna use.

That's it.

However, it would do no harm for players to also know in depth the rules of the game if they want to manage or better appreciate the strategy of this game.

Naaaa, don't try to understand it spinners. Just be the brutes and let the generals deal with that.
