Title: Simulated Team Battle
Zombo - March 1, 2007 09:07 PM (GMT)
Strat you asked for a simulated team battle? I'm posting this in public, so everybody can see how it works.
Same rules
Format: D1 D2 S3 S4 S5 (even-number = 3 pts)
Team size: 7 spinners, 2 level 3, 2 level 2, 3 level 1.
No reserve.

We're still even 6-6.
I have no card left, you have 1 SW left.
I think you can win this... you get a last move without me doing anything :/
strat1227 - March 1, 2007 09:44 PM (GMT)
I swap spinner number 5, and spinner number 3.
This makes my new lineup:
1)15
2)74
3)2
4)6
5)3
This makes my levels:
3
5
1
3
1
I got:
tie
win

making the final score:
8-6. I win :P
gg Zombo :D
Zombo - March 1, 2007 09:54 PM (GMT)
err no...
tie
win
loss
win
loss
thats 1+3+3 = 7 for you
and 1+2+2 = 5 for me.
7-5 win.
I made a mistake on my double swap 76. You already had a strong pair in 74. My move would have worked if your pair was very weak in D2. I wanted to trap you into moving stronger spinners into D2, so I can freeze them with 2 of my crap spinners, and use my strong spinners to pick up wins in other matches.
I think even putting 76 back in round 2 together was pretty bad... I should have put a level 2 like you did, because moving those two spinners take all my cards, leaving me exposed in the final round.
strat1227 - March 1, 2007 10:02 PM (GMT)
oh gotcha, ties are 1... i thought we just both got the 2 points.... it would be much less confusing if it was just nobody got anything on a tie. It doesnt affect the scores, but it eliminates the confusion.
Zombo - March 1, 2007 10:03 PM (GMT)
Yeah I guess it does make no difference... I just thought it was intuitive since you "split" the two points into parts of 1 and if you think about soccer, wins are 3 pts, draw are 1 points...
strat1227 - March 1, 2007 10:05 PM (GMT)
yea the soccer thing makes sense, but the "split" doesnt really cuz what about 3 point matches.... either way is fine, it doesnt matter, i just got confused w/ the point value... either way i win by two :P

Right it doesn't really matter what the final score exactly is as long as you know ties are neutralized... Just know which matches are worth 3, which are worth 2 (very important, cuz technically we both won 2 matches here but yours were worth 3.)
I won't change it though because:
1) I'm lazy
2) There might be cards in the future that plays on this. For example: making a tie on a certain match give you 2 points and the enemy 1.
strat1227 - March 1, 2007 10:09 PM (GMT)
makes sense :D
I think im ready for the real thing now (MUCH more unpredictable)
Zombo - March 1, 2007 10:27 PM (GMT)
oh btw if anyone is up for a game, just say so.
Basically all we do is run through the managing rounds and we assume that level 3 > level 2 > level 1 and 3 always win 2 etc...
We also named the spinners 123 45 67, so 123 are lvl 1, 45 lvl 2, 67 lvl 3.
For doubles match, we just add the lvl of the spinners to see who's best.
IE: 46 => 2+3 = 5. If enemy has less than 5, 46 wins.
If level is equal, it's a tie. It's really simple. (The real thing is much more complicated!)
MikeN - March 2, 2007 01:25 AM (GMT)
I don't understand this...
:banghead:
Are there actual people spinning, or are you playing a D&D type thing, or what?
Confused... :banghead:
edit--
whoops, didn't realize there were other threads on this...
i get it a little more, but it's still a bit foggy...
gizzardsmack - March 2, 2007 01:37 AM (GMT)
this is basically a skeleton event to represent how managing a real team battle would be. you would know the skill of your "spinners" and pit them against another persons also imaginary spinners. this lets you get the feel or managing without having to deal with other things.
anyone wanting to manage, i'd recommend doing this a few times.

yep we're playing with fake players, that's why it's a simulation.
the thing is, a real battle takes 4 weeks while a simulation likes this a few minutes to do.
Now of course, simulations aren't perfect since we assume a lot of stuff (like the level of pen spinners and how to determine winners) but it's still better than nothing.
