Title: Jumping
Description: Gravity Manipulation !!

HuroniX - March 11, 2007 05:06 PM (GMT)
Yes, as the title states, it's gravity manipulation. I jump a lot. I'm only 5'6, and can jump pretty high. I can touch the orange part of the rim (for those who play basketball) And if your able to jump high enough, you can develop hang time, and stay in the air for a LONG time. I've seen it happen.

This isnt gravity manipulation....

Im pretty sure it'd be... Muscle manip? Air resistance manip?

Not gravity, you dont change gravity by jumping :D

HuroniX - March 11, 2007 05:19 PM (GMT)
 Yeah, excuse my misuse of English. Air Resistance sounds better.

Dont worry, I failed Physics... im sure Mats could give you the real breakdown :P

Air Resistance Manipulation! haha.

(If anyone cares, my AS (Age-17 Exams, dunno the american equivelant) result in Physics was a U, U stands for Unclassified which is the lowest mark you can get :D)

Mats - March 11, 2007 07:01 PM (GMT)
My AS physics result was an E health...

Jumping simply isn't a manipulation... I guess this should be in spammer's bin really...

And my jump is just about enough for me to just about dunk (and I'm 6'). I've not measured it for years though...

If you are 5'6", you cannot touch the rim on a full size basketball net. There is a 5'10" kid at my school who is an incredible athlete who cannot touch the rim yet. Trust me, no arguement.

Anyways, for jumping, can anyone do a backflip, or a curlup? I can do a curl up, they're fun but hurt if you mess up. Curl up is when you are on your back and you curve your back to sort of spring yourself back up.

Spud Webb?

It is an insult to logic to form a conclusion based on such a small sample, or such biased evidence.

The wright brothers were told that they would never fly because others have tried and failed. Generalizations have been used forever, but that never stops someone or something from overcoming them.

I'm siding with HuroniX on this one.

Also! I can touch the rim, but I can't dunk... I'm six-feet tall, but I don't play basketball. I have to improve my verticle soon if I want to start tricking though! Any tips?

Hangtime depends on how you orient your body in the air.

Vertical jump height depends on the muscular power of your gastrocnemius and soleus. Exercises designed to build these calf muscles are called plyometrics and involve explosive movements. Examples are bounding, hopping, and jumping. Do a little research into plyometric exercises if you're interested in building your jump height. I think a few years ago I measured mine at about 60 cm.

In improving your vertical, there are two things you can improveto get it higher.
You can increase the suppleness of your legs, and you can increase the speed at which the muscles move.
Increasing suppleness can be done with streching.
For improving the speed, I suggest vertical jumps, look up how to do them somewhere.
you can strech everyday, but only do your sets of vertical jumps 3 times a week to allow recovery.

Hope that helps, if only a little.

Well, yeah. Size doesn't matter. For example, there was a guy who was 5'2 who could dunk :) (Mugsy Bouges) And when I say orange part, i mean like the bottom of the support of the rim. Plus, there's a guy in my school in my grade, 5'10, and he could touch the front of the rim. BTW. if you don't believe us, check out, lol, youtube. Check for Spud Webb. Clean your eyes before doing so. I didn't really mean to create such controversy. I just wanted to see, if this is possibly a manipulation (read/heard on some commercial) I already knew Mats could dunk, and wanted to see how many others could do so also. And I was also just trying to get some tips. But, if it makes people argue, this thread may as just be moved to the spammers bin.
