Title: How To Link These Stuff..
Description: help with thinking up combos
DaThroat - April 4, 2007 08:56 AM (GMT)
i have plenty of problem thinking up combos of my own.. i've been wat are the combos done by people on penspinning videos.. most of the time i dunno wat they are doing.. i've noticed that on screen my combos always seem jerky and unsmooth.. there has to be something im doing wrong..
anyway im trying to look for help on how to link the tricks i can do at the moment..
hope i can get help or at least some ideas..
tricks i can do:
thumb around HA, sonics up and down, sonic clips up and down, shadows, inverse shadow12-23 and 23-23, bakfall, thumbspin 3.0-5.5(regularly), devils sonic, double charge, twisted sonic bust > bak rev, demons sonic and last but not least fingerpass..
i jus need some short combos which i can expand on..
you must be thinking im lazy to think up combos, but i did try and it looks quite awful on screen.. maybe its jus me..

You sure your spinning isn't simply jerky and unsmooth? it seems to me like you learned a lot of tricks in a short period of time and need to work on smoothness.
Anyway you could always lurk around in breakdown requests thread.

yeah i've been doing that.. but where's the fun in copying another persons combo? i mean if i could get short combo ideas from the people around and then merge and modify them together it wouls still be my own right?
have you seen the video i was on? my part sucked terribly.. or at least i think so.. like i said there is something missing in my spinning.. maybe its the flair or something..

work on smoothness! :banghead: no point in learning a trick if it isnt smooth imo
Eriror - April 4, 2007 01:14 PM (GMT)
I'd say that's not true. Flip's amazing, even if he wasn't that smooth early on.

well isnt their always someone disagreeing with me  lol jk yeah but on combos if it isnt smooth it doesnt look pretty  (imo)
DaThroat - April 4, 2007 01:50 PM (GMT)
i totally agree.. but i dun think my problem is smoothness.. i think im not using the right tricks.. they dun flow together nicely.. any ideas.. cos i haven really anything to practice now since i have no ideas abt combos..

Try to make planned combos with linkage that u don't use in freestyles, it can help u to find new way for combos. Create 3-4 combos and training it.

always try as much as possible to link combos that vary in plane of spin by no more than 90 degrees and has the same direction of spin. A lot of changes in directions or radical changes in direction will make your combo look more jerky.
Most good smooth combos have a few smooth ticks going in the same direction between each change of direction.
For example try not to use TA > TA reverse when you can do a Fake triple(TA>Backaround Reverse > Pass 12-T1 > TA)>TA reverse.
The TA>TA rev changes direction after 1 trick. The Fake triple>TA Rev has 3 tricks all in the same direction before changing.

what is Pass 12-T1 meh im noob <_<
nike t - April 4, 2007 06:50 PM (GMT)
it's a pass from 12-T1, from in between index and middle, to in between thumb and index.
don't worry, you'll be able to get smooth

thanks lol whenever i see numbers i get confused lol
but does it go over then index or under?
zblader - April 4, 2007 07:08 PM (GMT)
it goes over, because it is a normal pass. :).
Katto d(^.^)z - April 4, 2007 07:09 PM (GMT)
normals are CW rev passes are CCW (looking at ur palm) so over
not much to say.. you might want to stop learning tricks for a while and just freestyle including all of them

If you want to work on free styling I suggest learning how to do a couple 2-3 trick combos really well. That way when you free style you don't have to completely make everything up, if you find yourself in a certain position just use the mini-combo you already know that starts from there.

It goes over the index (clockwise, if you're looking at the tips of your fingers).
Edit: oops, didn't notice that this was already answered.

while cool.. thxs.. i always do ta > ta rev.. looks stupid.. thxs i will work on fake double and fake triple in combos..
