Title: Help With Monami 153 Mx
ShortAssassin - April 6, 2007 07:54 PM (GMT)
Hey everyone, I'm attempting to make this mod
http://www.penspinstore.com/shop/step1.php?number=709.
Also seen here made by Maniok:

I'm having trouble figuring out how to extend the 153 ink tube so that it still clicks and reaches through the HGG tip. I've currently got it extended about 1cm using a section of an RSVP ink tube and a toothpick. However, when I screw on the 153 tip (a regular one of a filed down one) the pen does not click. Any suggestions?

Shouldn't it be pretty much the same as the other version, to wich you posted a tutorial in the show off your pens thread?

There are several flaws in the tutorials given thus far.
1) Where does the spring reside? Inside the 153 tip or the HGG tip?
2) If the RSVP ink tube is used, there are no "wings" on the tube to act as a catch for the spring. Therefore, the ink will just fall through the spring.
3) What is the purpose of enlargening the hole of the 153 tip? If question #1 was answered with the spring residing in the HGG tip, then this question is answered automatically.

If you read the original 153 retract mod tutorial, it shows you how to extend the tube and where to place the spring and spring stop.

Well I got it guys, thanks. It's simply a matter of having the right drill bit. The tutorial at turtle spin reccomended 9/64, I had 8/64 and 10/64. 8/64 is too thin and 10/64 cracks the 153 tip. I managed to find a 9/64 and i just had to adjust my extension, part of an HGG ink tube, and it works fine now.

the spring is inside the Monami tip, you make the wings yourself using pliers or your teeth or something, and the purpose of enlarging the hole is to have the ink be long enough to get to the HGG tip, otherwise it wouldn't reach

1. It resides in the 153 Tip
2. Tape is the usual method. Just make sure you have it thick enough to make a consistent stop, but not thick enough so it interferes with the clicking action. High tack scotch tape is a good idea.
3. You do that so the pen tip can extent past the 153 tip and into the HGG tip. It is not big enough, however, to allow the spring past. the spring mechanism will be a little futher back from the original 153 tube's position, but it will have the same effect. (if you know what i mean)

PDS uses a RSVP ink. The tutorial in Turtlespin uses the 153 ink. Which is better?

I couldn't get 153 ink to work so I just modified the ink tube from a papermate profile. I love the ink they use.

The RSVP without a question.

The tip to one of mine fell off today :(, I've just been using teflon tape, does anyone have an alternative method that isnt glue?
Edit: Just screwed it on directly to the 153 tip, seems like a tight hold.

i sometimes use athletic tape. The roughness of the tape helps keep the cap on after you twist it on.
