Title: Xtg Elite

johnz - April 8, 2007 11:58 PM (GMT)
XTG Elite!

Basically a pen that can spin and write with pen and pencil
...and doesn't look like it just came outta the trash can >.>
alright here it is

http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b240/Joh...ng/single-1.jpg

COP+COG

Balanced COP

Compared Length

Cap off

heres a the demo video
Demonstration Video
it shows it really does work! :D
and the make up of the cap(the body is bounded together)

PRO
-Writes with both pen and pencil
-Capped the pen this time :]
-Not too long this time: 19.5cm
-Pretty balanced imo
-Heavy on the ends
-Spins well o.O
-Half a grip in the middle(kinda....)
-Looks better :D (i think)

CON
-Half a grip in the middle
-Ink tip might be damaged (do to how it works)
-Needs atleast 4 pens to make................one for the balance.....
-Took me a awhile to create, it's pretty tricky/dangerous too
-Disables the eraser >.>

again, all comments and criticisms are welcomed :]

EDIT: Tutorial (With no grip in the middle :])

Nevermind, I found the solution.... superglue >.>
Anyways
Heres the tutorial with some slight changes to the pen

Pens Needed:
Required:
Papermate Xtend -The body and the ink tube-

Might Be Replaceable:
Roseart Mechanical Pencil with grip (Replacement: BIC Pencil Grip?) -You need everything-
Uni-ball Vision Elite (I really don't have a replacement for it, but this mod only uses the cap, so) -Cap-
Pilot G2 (This is kind of a waste in my opinion) -Clicker half of the pen-

Optional:
A Grip (I used half a Profile's...I kind of broke the other half >.>....I guess you can use the G2's)
WD-40 (For the G2 grip ;D)

Tools Needed:
Ruler (Unless you are really good with measurements <.<)
Hacksaw (Sand paper with it, I guess)
Superglue (>.>)

1: This step is pretty tricky in my opinion, so I put it first <.<. Take the eraser out of the pencil. Then cut the eraser-end for about 1cm. You'll notice that there are 2 tubes, inside if you didn't already. Here's the tricky part:
Focus on the circled area. Carefully cut OUTER tube for 3.5cm (from the tip of the pencil that is). Be careful NOT to damage the INNER tube. You can trim the surface, then just twist it off. Now for the inner tube. Cut the inner tube for about 4.9cm-5cm (I used a scissor and cut 4.9cm, but I intended 5cm.... so yeah <.<)
user posted image

The front should look like this after. (You don't have to, but I cut the sharp tip for better spinning)
user posted image

2. Get the body of the Xtend (with the grip removed) and super glue on the pencil tube like so. You can try to tape it, or just put a layer or two of paper under it.
Cut the tip of the Xtend body by 0.5cm
user posted image

3. Now get out the cap. Cut or sand the top for about 0.5cm (or, if you want another reference, to the metal clip). Get the spring and the white plastic out. Then remove the metal clip completely.
I don't want you to hurt yourself removing the clip or spinning the pen with part of the metal on.

Should end up like this
user posted image
(I used a cutting plier and just cut it off, but I guess you can push it out from the opening -> to the end.)
(Or maybe you can saw it off)

4. Get the 2 pieces inside the clicker part of the G2 out. This mod only needs the long, slim part (the one on the outside). Fill the piece up with the pencil's eraser. I like to cut it into an octagon and just twist it in, the edges should easily get cut off. Don't fill over, but it might work, I don't know >.>.
user posted image

5. Push the white (oil?) thing up to the ink. It didn't explode when I did it, but be careful. Cut the clear plastic until it has a length of 0.5cm until the white thing. (It means that you cut the plastic for 0.5cm marked from the white thing.) OR cut 2.9cm from the opening of the ink tube. I just used a toothpick to push, and then cut, then push, then cut, then push....
Sorry if I'm confusing you >.>

6. Cut the G2 barrel for 1cm.

ASSEMBLY!
(I'd post these as [ IMG ] 's, but it turns out I've exceeded the limit... But this part is less confusing <.<)

BODY
7. Pencil + Ink tube. The ink tube should fit into the inner tube of the pencil nicely.
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b240/Joh...g/pencilink.jpg

8. Stick step 7 into step 2. If you cut the outer tube too long, it'll wiggle a lot.....
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b240/Joh.../pencilbody.jpg

9. Put the pencil's grip over it, try putting the grip as far as possible to stabilize the pencil.
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b240/Joh...ng/bodygrip.jpg
CAP
10. Put the G2 barrel into the cap. There should be only 0.5cm of the G2 barrel visible.
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b240/Joh...g/barrelcap.jpg

11. Put the long clicker part in.
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b240/Joh...ng/finalcap.jpg

12. Put the cap over the body :]
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b240/Joh...finalwogrip.jpg
Click the G2 clicker to push the pencil :]

13. OPTIONAL: put half a Profile(or others) on the pencil grip. It will have perfect balance with the Profile grip :D
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b240/Johnzhang/final.jpg

14. And if you want longer lead, cut the ink shorter and pencil longer. I only featured this because the ink gets messy....and I use ink more than pencil >.>;;
But you can always carry lead cases <.<

STATS
Length: 17.4 cm
Weight: <.< I don't know exactly....but it's as heavy as a RSVG2
COG: Balanced if 1/2 a Profile grip is applied, but the COG is still 0.2cm off without it :]
Stable? Yup, if made right of course :]

PROS:
- Writes with both pen and pencil :]
- Near balanced COG :]
- Doesn't look as bad <.<
- Not too long
- Pretty light
- Uses Xtend and Vision Elite .....? >.>;

CONS:
- Pretty light
- Uses 3 pens + 1 pencil...atleast
- Ink tip might be damaged over time, I'm not sure
- Short lead...5cm to be exact .....
- No eraser <.<

It's a long and confusing tutorial, I know...but I think it's worth the time :]
If you actually use the pen to write of course ;D

Anyways, enjoy the pen!
Write and spin away! =]

its the last of the cons >.>
the "disabled" eraser is used to protect the ink tip :]

lefty - April 9, 2007 12:07 AM (GMT)
it looks better then the first one, but it still looks kinda odd
good idea thou.
tut please?

spin~TAP - April 9, 2007 12:10 AM (GMT)
It seems like it has a lot of weight in the front by the look of it. What are the stats?

Also is it stable when spun if its dropped?

trust me.
it's almost weightless without the two grips in front >.>

it's 19.5 cm long
as heavy as a RSVG2

and i crashed-tested it >.>
and it passed :D

EDIT:
the tut might take awhile, but it's spring break :]
but its gona take atleast 4 pens + pencil to make it, unless i stumble upon a good replacement

K4S - April 9, 2007 12:33 AM (GMT)
Looks much better! :thumb:

...not sure if i could spin it though, grips in the middle just dont work for me. But really, no one uses a writable mod as their main spinning pen...people only need mods that can write so they have something that spins moderately better than stock pens when doing work :)

Dark Angel-REX - April 9, 2007 12:34 AM (GMT)
looks quite good. i like hte way u put two stuff.

although, caps seem to become little too ugly no offense

and yeah, you're right

but the grip in the middle is mostly used to keep the cap on

i tried to make this a spinning pen by adding weight on both ends

rsvp cap

it saves a lot of work
but it reduces the weight a little and it doesn't stay on as well, but it does :o

ShortAssassin - April 9, 2007 01:05 AM (GMT)
I thought it looked fine the old way actually. My main spinning pens are ones I write with aswell. I modded my comssas to write with G2 ink and I used to write with MXs. Starting tomorrow though I'll be using my Monami 153 MXs :)

Instead of the grip in the middle, is it possible to put a fitting barrel?

good idea :D

maybe, i'll have too work on it tho

pser - April 9, 2007 01:51 AM (GMT)
Nice mod, i think the grip in the middle can be replaced easily. if its big enough, try a G2 barrel, that will also allow a insert, sort of
I will make this as i have no pencil mod and k4s wont release his mp mx( :angryfire: )

so, yeah. good idea of putting two pen/pencil at once.

UnEmploymentDude - April 9, 2007 07:38 AM (GMT)
MUCH better than the first one, the first one makes me think I'm gonna have marks on myself. That is, AFTER I stab myself accidentally.

Personally I like this one more:
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b240/Joh...ng/copcog-1.jpg
Looks like a real pen/cil. The RSVP cap looks awkward(sp?).

Good job!

Um, for pic 7, you jam the pen part into the pencil tube which holds the lead....so do you have to load lead through the front? Can you only have 1 piece of lead at a time?

yeah.....
it loads in the front and can only have one in at any given time

but if you like using pencils, cut the front in step one longer and push step five in more (which could be a problem >.>)
