Title: Pizza Dough Spinning

ShoeMan - April 29, 2007 04:14 AM (GMT)
GODAMNIT it's not even real dough! it's rubber
( http://www.yoyoguy.com/PL/1/95/Throw-Dough )

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S4CXMREh5AA

It's seriously the lamest thing I've ever saw, and somehow it seems to be bigger the penspinning in a sense.

ShortAssassin - April 29, 2007 04:16 AM (GMT)
Wow, that's the stupidest shit ever. What a terrible hobby.

Sathon - April 29, 2007 05:17 AM (GMT)
Are you guys gay or what? That thing's pretty Daisy. It reminded me of rope tricking + something and it's a more performance thing than ps. Like taking bookspinning to the max!

It doesn't seem too different than using fake bottles in a Flair Bartending competition. Instead of broken glass, they don't want dough flying all over the place and sticking to the floor.

Technically, this looks very similar to us using "fake" pens that may or may not have ink in them (or having the ink reversed) to prevent us from getting ink all over our hands. ;)

Eso - April 29, 2007 06:20 AM (GMT)
Well, it's just different. Normal people in America, and probably over the world, are amazed at seeing just a regular spinning of the dough. I suppose this is just taking it to the extreme.

You wanna know lame? Cup stacking.

ShoeMan - April 29, 2007 10:38 AM (GMT)
I think that the difference between actual dough and rubber dough is way bigger then pens VS modded pens. It might not be the case when someone uses a 25 cm long pen with 2 caps and 3 grips on each side, but normal modded pens are fine. same with fake bottles for bar flaring, but common, dough doesn't act like rubber, these guys have no chance of pulling 1/10 of what they're doing with actual dough, and it wasn't even my actual point, my point is that what these guys are doing just looks lame, period.

With real dough is cool , cause you can enlarge them to about 1x1 meters :D

saw that once ont TV "the Pizza World Cup"

very nice

Hi.

This was pretty interesting... Would like to see them do that with real dough. >_>

Yeah. Srsly.

ShoeMan - April 29, 2007 03:05 PM (GMT)
OT - just for the record I have no biff with large pen mods, I spin anything from normal 10 cm pens to drumsticks, and they all require skill. ;)

On topic though, I guess it's subjective whether it's cool or not, though I really thought EVERYONE are gonna agree with me on this one.

strat1227 - April 29, 2007 03:35 PM (GMT)
i agree w/ you shoeman

it just looks plain retarded haha.... i saw only 1 impressive thing in that video <_<

fitzgeraldhimself - April 29, 2007 05:14 PM (GMT)
This rubber stuff spinning is probably the lamest manipulation I've ever seen, just imagine this kid practicing it, haha. Pen spinning is cool because you can do it in class and stuff but seriously what can you get from rubber spinning skills?

Scott Shaputis - April 29, 2007 05:30 PM (GMT)
cup stacking is worse

FallenSeraph - April 29, 2007 06:19 PM (GMT)
yea the difference is that dough spinning and cup stacking have lik real competitions and associations and companies producing shit for them.
us pen spinners on the other hand....

idk jus an observation

thats what i love about us.... we're underground man... thats what makes us cool.....

i sometimes worry about us losing that..... if we get all that stuff that like yoyoing and cup stacking and shit has... then we just become nerdy.....

sketching - April 29, 2007 08:10 PM (GMT)
@strat1227:

1. we spend way too much time looking at pictures of pens
2. we spend way too much time modifying pens for non-writing purposes
3. we get way too emotional over things like naming minute ways of movements of a pen going around a finger

I hate to break to you, but Pen Spinning is already nerdy. :banghead:

I'm still okay with this kind of competition for being able to figure out many more ways of manipulating the flexible rubber in aesthetic motions. I'm not saying that anyone in the video actually did a good job, but I can see the potential of coming up with some good-looking combos of moves to highlight the material used.

I agree that using real dough would be better, but also limiting and messy.

i cant believe you guys are making fun of other ppl's hobby/skill toy. u may not like it, but dont bash it, especially if u havent tried it. i mean, you dont like ppl saying you twirling a pen around is stupid do u, or ppl saying your pretty much a baton twirler? didnt think so.

well if they want to say that, then that's their opinion.

its their right to voice it, just like its mine to voice mine...

@sketching- I know, im just in denial.

platypusvictim9 - April 30, 2007 01:55 AM (GMT)
Some of that was cool, but the way they made it seem like it was the coolest thing on this planet was lame.they need to be more humble

haha

Scott Shaputis - April 30, 2007 02:37 AM (GMT)
that is just an instant hint for showing that no one cool actually does it.

AlmightyMalachi - May 1, 2007 05:35 AM (GMT)
There's a point in which all nerds&Geeks hit in their life where it couldn't get any nerdier. Well this just expanded the boarder....Good Job Duncan :vhappy:

yeah i guess...
but think how cool it would be to have like an international pen spinning convention/tournament in san diago or something, and ppl get like hotels and it goes on for like a week...*sigh* lol wishful thinking.

Scott Shaputis - August 20, 2007 03:36 PM (GMT)
it was on food network last night for an hour they had some huge competition and they used real dough :B they had to actually make a pizza too it was some big competition in mall of america and the winner got 10,000 bucks

UnEmploymentDude - August 21, 2007 05:23 AM (GMT)

FireFaith - August 21, 2007 06:36 PM (GMT)
there's nothing more to say but : HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAH oh my, that's pretty lame

- Fire

Jotacon - September 1, 2007 03:31 AM (GMT)
I'm loath to call it lame. Ridiculous is much more appropriate. Pen spinning originally came from boredom, I would have to say. Tossing fake rubber pizza dough came from...people in America being fascinated with food? Rediculous.

firemaster3493 - September 4, 2007 11:52 PM (GMT)
im going to have to agree with jotacon-it's just ridiculos. It would be okay if they didn't try to make it sound so AmAzInGlY awesome. They shuld have made it look like a special talent, that's all.

But, in my opinion (no offense), it looked pretty nerdy.
