Title: Video Database

TiNY - April 29, 2007 10:30 PM (GMT)
I was browsing the old UPSB forums yesterday, just looking at all the old posts for fun. Every once in a while I'd come across a thread where a video is mentioned, but when I click the link the video has been removed. The history of PS is being created here everyday, and in the future many of us, newcomers as well, are going to want to look back and recollect what has occurred to develop the art. I was wondering if the Research Committee, or whoever should be responsible, is keeping a database of all the videos here on UCPSB, so we don't lose our past.

the vid is gone

yeh i know, and I didn't save it :(

*tear*... its just heartbreaking

I'm sure a lot of older members have the vids saved, but unfortunatley most of them are gone... I have almost ever vid from the time I've been here at UCPSB, but very few older ones. If you wanted to form some sort of PS history comittee you could talk to Zombo or join the RD (also by PMing Zombo) and we could probably set up a new section. I feel like it would fall under the RD as it would take a decent amount of reaserch to find a lot of videos... might also want to look into other aspects of PS history.

is there any way an uploading feature could be imlemented on the site itself?

like click an "upload" task somewhere, and you can upload all your vids there?

probably not due to the free hosting... and even if there was, bandwith would be highly limited and the site would run even slower <_<

forum has like 10 mb limit.

I'm currently trying to keep track of every major release video out there. Kinda hard and time consuming but people can help out, I suppose.

Just my 2 cents

The first thing would be to get all videos in one location. I have a 200G external hard drive, and am willing to put aside at least 20G... If the Research Department is willing to find as many videos as possible and send them to me (over time) I will permanently store them. Once enough videos are collected, I (well maybe someone from the Research Department) will make Historical Database of Pen Spinning, which will be available online with permanent hosting (perhaps directly on UPSB3). Even if there is no permanent hosting, atleast the videos won't be lost forever like some have over the years.

If this does work out, videos will have to be sent with as much detail as possible. Any dates, important names, etc. should be considered.

Thoughts?

I dont think you can get to the 20Gbs, because videos arent that big. Lets say, about 10MBs each, and it is like hard to get 20GBs, because all others may have less than 1MB. But be careful, if the Hard Disk gets some problem, all data will be lost. Good luck.

I wouldn't say that, JMember, because my video folder is nearing the 2 GB. [of my own vids, mind you. not collabs]

Good idea, though. Good luck finding the collabs. I might have Devolution on a DVD somewhere.. As well as my first 2 solos.

Don't worry I have 4,46 GB of almost all PS vids that were released in the UPSB times and the UCPSB and were downloadable. Otherwise doeas maybe anyone have the link to 337's PS blog?

Edit: found it
http://psinfo.blog36.fc2.com/

It has the most PS vids currently

I think tohlz has a huge video database.

I mean, last time I asked him for a video, it was NHK_9 3 loop combo, a very very obscure video that was released in a time where the backaround wasn't even popular, and he found it in no time :)
