Title: Fundamentals Faq

I made this thread to cut down on the amount of Stickies in the Fundies forum. Instead of individual stickies for each trick, plus any other useful threads, they can be added to a single list at the top that members can more easily link to. Let me know if this is a good/bad idea. If bad, then we can go back to the multiple stickies setup.

What are the Fundamentals?
The Fundamentals consist of 3 Tricks and 1 simple Combo.
The 3 Fundamental Tricks are:
- Charge Normal
- Sonic Normal
- Thumbaround Normal
The single Fundamental Combo is:
- Fingerpass Normal

Why are they Fundamentals?
Please read the thread: What are the Fundamentals? Why?, for discussion on this topic.

Is that all of the Fundamentals?
No, each Fundamental has a Reverse. This just means that the pen moves in the opposite direction as the Normal version.
The Reverses are:
- Charge Reverse
- Sonic Reverse
- Thumbaround Reverse
- Fingerpass Reverse just has the pen moving in the opposite direction around the hand as Fingerpass Normal. It has so far been straight forward enough to not need a thread.

Why is Fingerpass (a combo) a Fundamental?
That question is answered in the thread: Why is Fingerpass a Fundamental?. This thread also includes discussion on the merits of Fundamentals in general.

What are these "Inverses" I heard about?
Any trick that travels along the side of one or more fingers has an Inverse. An Inverse trick has the same start and end position as a Normal or Reverse trick, but travels along the other side of the finger(s). See the Inverse Sonic thread for an example of the Inverse concept. Inverse Sonic is discussed in the Advanced Tricks forum, since it is considered an advanced variation of Sonic.

What does "12, 34, T1, etc..." mean?
Those are notations for the fingers used in a trick. See the Numbering System thread for more details.

Are there any videos of the Fundamentals? I learn better with videos
There is a Videos + Tutorials thread for this purpose. If you find any more Fundamental tutorials, please post links in that thread.

What is a Thumb Sonic and Thumbless Sonic?
Beginners can use the Thumb to help build pressure when learning Sonic. Further discussion can be found in the thread: 2 Ways of Doing Sonic?

Is Infinity a Fundamental?
No. Besides the relative complexity of that combo (3 tricks: Wiper Reverse, Pass Normal & Pass Reverse), Infinity has never officially been deemed a Fundamental. While it may be easier for some to learn than a few of the Fundamentals, the tricks involved in this combo are usually not thought to give as useful a base to a new user in terms of finger strength and agility. While the Wiper Reverse movement of the pen and the accompanying work of the fingers involved are different than any of the other movements of the Fundamentals, Wiper Normal and Wiper Reverse do not belong to a wide family of tricks, as are the Fundamentals.

Thanks. If anyone has any other ideas for common newbie questions, go ahead and post them here. I'm not sure if I'll incorporate them in a single post, or have individual posts dedicated to each question. That way, people can link to the post itself and make it easier to direct people to the questions.

Added another question: "Is Infinity a Fundamental?"

Let me know anything should be added to, or removed from, the answer.
