Title: Swisspinner V Leviathan
Description: For the 004 Spot

Eburt - May 27, 2007 05:26 PM (GMT)
Well this was very anticipated as the first real action within the Elite Six, so I won't keep you waiting with boring rants. The results:

swisspinner: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NjEPPwtgdYg

Leviathan: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mf182upncYw

Judge 1:

swisspinner:

Difficulty: 3.5/5
Speed: 4/5
Smoothness: 4/5
Creativity: 3/5
Variety: 4/5
Filming: 2.5/5

Total: 21/30

I thought that the combo was pretty good. Decent variety, fast, smooth, and fairly difficult. Very well rounded, though lacking a bit in creativity. What I wouldv'e really liked to have seen improved was the lighting though. That would have gotten you a lot more points in filming.

Leviathan:

Difficulty: 3.5/5
Speed: 3.5/5
Smoothness: 4.5/5
Creativity: 3.5/5
Variety: 4/5
Filming: 4.5/5

Total: 23.5/30

I really thought this was pretty cool. It was fairly well rounded, but what stood out for me was how smooth it was, with such an slow speed. Not to mention the fact that it was done with a pencil. Very impressive, but actually somewhat of a dissapointment compared to what I was expecting.

Judge 2:

swisspinner:

Difficulty: 4/5
Speed: 4.5/5
Smoothness: 4/5
Creativity: 4/5
Variety: 4/5
Filming: 3.5/5

Total: 24/30

Everything in this video was performed well. Each column recieved above average ratings, except the video was a bit dark. Otherwise, very nice combo.

Leviathan

Difficulty: 3.5/5
Speed: 4/5
Smoothness: 4/5
Creativity: 3.5/5
Variety: 4/5
Filming: 3.5/5

Total: 22.5/30

Was pretty disaapointed in this video.. expected a lot more.

Judge 3:

swisspinner:

Difficulty: 4.5
Speed: 4.5
Smoothness: 4.5
Creativity: 3.5
Variety: 3.5
Filming: 4

Total: 24.5

Solid combo, but it was hard to see the tricks clearly due to the poor light. I don't see anything "outstanding" or out of the ordinary either.

Leviathan

Difficulty: 4
Speed: 4.5
Smoothness: 5
Creativity: 3
Variety: 3.5
Filming: 5

Total: 25

Not too difficult, but to be able to control a pencil with such fluidity at such a pace is amazing. The tricks themselves were a bit lacking, but I think your pacing and better filming makes your video a better one.

Totals:
swisspinner: 69.5
Leviathan: 71

Congrats to Leviathan on his close win. No changes in rank will occur. swisspinner may challenge again one month from today if he wishes to do so.

was leviathan's slowed down?

pretty good job all :D

i just wish i could tell what swisspinner is doing, i cant see anything <_<

Leviathan - May 27, 2007 05:42 PM (GMT)
Haha, mine wasn't slowed down. Man, I guess my spinning is slow.

I used an old video, because I couldn't get my combo on time. :banghead:

Eh, I hate the way lots of people do Korean combos, and then finish with an air trick in hope of attracting creativity score. You do a non-creative combo, you throw the pen up, you catch it, woo.

Well done Levi, though, it's not one of your better combos, it was still better, and so deserved to win.

Good battle.

The funny thing is that Leviathan's combo, by inspection, is also a Korean combo. lol

TiNY - May 28, 2007 06:03 AM (GMT)
@Leviathan: Nice combo :clap:
I enjoyed seeing a slow-paced, continuous styled combo for a change, and the smoothness was excellent (expect for at 4seconds, not sure what you were trying to do but it looked like a mistake). It would been a lot better with an exciting ending, endings are key.

@SwissSpinner: I agree with Mats, not necessarily on the air trick, they can provide a nice ending, but it was definately one of the typical korean combos that are starting to get old... but it was a nice Korean combo ^_^

K4S - May 28, 2007 06:05 AM (GMT)
Good vids both spinners...as stated, SwissSpinner, you need better lighting...would have won imo if the lighting was there. And the stock pencil spinning was good, very skillful to be able to make spinning a pencil that smooth.

I liked leviathans combo a lot more. Glad to see him win :P

Really liked levi's combo

FallenSeraph - May 28, 2007 07:54 PM (GMT)
you guys need to not use "korean" so liberally. every combo involves so called "korean" elements since sonic and passes are essentially the basic transfer elements of penspinning. jus cause you use them does not make you korean

and if you look at korean combos they are not always the same. sure they use similar tricks but they are not the same. it is differences in handling and execution of the trick. i could do leviathan's combo here but it would look completely different b/c of our styles. i lik koreans because some of them have really cool stylistic handling of the tricks.

take it this way as an analogy. in music everyone is playing the same notes. jus because youre playing a note that lots of other ppl dont play doesnt make you creative. usually it will sound really terrible b/c it wont fit into the key. hmm maybe thats why ppl dont play it much.
anyways, good music uses common notes and templates of keys, but is GOOD because of its composition and how the person can put together those common elements into something uncommon.

anyways. sry i jus had to get that rant out.
btw totally lovin levi's combo. again tis all about his execution. amazing tempo control

TiNY - May 29, 2007 02:08 AM (GMT)
@FallenSeraph: What your saying is totally correct, but I do not classify a combo "Korean" based only on the types of tricks. Sure the Charge, Sonic, and Pass families are typical Korean moves, but when I say it is a Korean Combo I'm referring to the trick selection as well as the style. SwissSpinner had an excellent combo, and I liked it. However, his style of that combo was the typical Korean style, and the tricks used were typical Korean tricks. A combination of the two makes a Korean Combo IMO. The reason I wouldn't consider Levis combo Korean is because of a few reasons. He didn't repeat his tricks too much (variants of same tricks), he slowed down the speed (although it was constant), and made noticeable changes in direction that still looked good (rather than the pen traveling in the same motion throughout majority of the combo).

Leviathan - May 29, 2007 05:34 AM (GMT)
Yeah, my spinning has korean influences, but I try to include old school and creativity in the combos I do.

The thing I did at 4 seconds was neosonic 12-T1 > tipped sonic rev T1-12. Koreans do it all the time.

Scott Shaputis - May 30, 2007 03:02 AM (GMT)
Swiss lost a lot of points due to bad lighting it looks like :|

Tim - May 30, 2007 08:23 AM (GMT)
Levi combo was awesome, I haven't seen anything like it. Kinda shows a new side of spinning. Very aesthetically pleasing. I agree swissspinner you should have had better lighting.
