This is a small presentation of the Mapping concept. Mapping is the act of creating an “image” of a trick and applying the image onto other parts of the hand. This image can be flipped, inverted, and shifted so long as the beginning and end constraints are the same. Mapping can be used for:

1. Learning how to execute known tricks in other slots
2. Creating a permutation of a normal trick
3. Understanding the limits of the hand and tricks

Mapping can be a powerful learning tool for beginners as they learn how to essentially mimic what they know and applying it to a new situation.

I didn't learn anything :dunno:

It is well known that when you invent a new trick, you try to find all possible permutations (mappings as you call it) to build a list of variations around it. People don't even mention; it's like obvious and implied.

One thing I can think of which this would be useful for is naming of "grey area" trick variations. Like what you did the sonic t12 look more like shadow to me, but your mapping would classify it as a sonic.

The other thing is to define "imperfect" reverse and inverse variations, which are tricks we deemed to be the rev/inv of a certain trick, but it does not follow the mapping exactly. Example: It seems impossible to make a reverse neo-sonic which is perfectly mapped to the reverse of the neo-sonic.

Otherwise, I don't think further research can be done on the concept :dunno:

I think most people probably understand all of this already, but its nice to put a name and some sound principals behind a concept. Nothing revolutionary, but I'm sure it will help a few people. At least with their sonic 12-T1 :P

This was meant for beginners, really. I originally wanted this to act as a way of learning new tricks rather than as a way to explore new areas. But yeah, I know that finding permutations is always done. I just wanted to explain and make this idea known.

Oh well. :dunno:

its not quite everythign i expected when you first told me about it. but i think it coudl definitely be expanded.

i was thinking about mapping as in describing different ways to the the EXACT same trick. as in doing tw sonic23-12 in different ways.
lik if you try to copy combos from bonkura it will look completely different unless you get all the intricacies.

idk i think that would be a great step forward but its gonna take alot of work

No offense Eso, but i didnt learn anything. i believe mostly everyone who spinned for over a month knows this naturally.

But nice vid :spin:

i actually enjoyed this as it put my own thoughts into a more organized form of thought.

another good video :-]
