Title: Confusing Explanations
MingoDynasty - June 16, 2007 05:01 AM (GMT)
Is it just me, or is it when I use the master listings thread, and pick tricks to learn (let's say midbak for example), all I get is a bunch of people 'attempting' to explain the trick, only sometimes actually trying to explain how to do it (which would be logical, seeing as how most people want to know how to do it, not just know what it is, but maybe that's just me). Mix in people popping in their own explanation contradicting other peoples' explanations. Then mix in a bunch of kids asking random questions like "What is 123?" or "Is it supposed to be a fl pass in a bakfall?"
It would really help if the first post of the thread, way at the top, is a very intuitive, full explanation of the trick and how to do it, and edited accordingly for naming conventions and additional advice and whatnot.
Like this:
http://s15.invisionfree.com/UCPSB/index.php?showtopic=261That way there wouldn't be a million people confusing each other (especially me), and people wouldn't have to read through 3-5+ pages of people talking about random stuff of the trick, and there'd be a only single post that shows the agreed upon concept of the trick. But then that would only make too much sense, eh?
Edit:
Ps. Maybe Chucko should make more articles for us :P

That's why we need PSConclave back. :(

I used up most of my "proper explaination" energy in PSConclave.
Most of the threads in the Master Thread Listings have already had ENORMOUS amounts of off-topic and useless info trimmed from them. You should be glad that I spent so much time to get you what's there now. :P

Well there is usually one person who got it right. And why did psconclave close?

The most beneficial post in the midbak thread was by you:
"middlebak:
1) think of a devils around
2) think of a devils around reverse
3) think of a devils around reverse used with wrist motion
#3 is a middlebak
same concept for ringbak"
Very plain and simple, and pro :P
But you failed to say quite how to execute such a "devils around reverse with wrist motion", hence why me and probably most others are still confused about the trick :o

You should make the first post of each tricks' thread be the concensus for that trick. Just like the Warped Sonic thread. It would clear out so much confusion.

Hm, no thanks. This is a forum for discussion, not a place where we force sketching to make it into another psconclave.

like the other guy say, if only PSconclave was here, it would have been so much easier.
but since it's not, we are havind difficulties.

Or you could wait for me to put up video tutorials. Seriously though, most advanced tricks should be derived from previous tricks. Midbak is just a mapping of Bak, Devil's Spin is just Twisted Sonic 23-12 ~ Shadow 12-23.
Most of us had to get this information from just watching videos, including me. The newer generation should be more grateful that we are taking the time to explain how these tricks work in full detail. Not everyone is dedicated like me, and not everyone has time like you. If I could, I'd be churning out at least 1 tutorial a day. But that's not happening.
So, I suggest being a little more grateful and a little less demanding. We all know that we need better tutorials. It takes time and work. Chill.

Yeah, honestly, people want tutorials a lot because they think it makes it easier, but when it comes down to it, you sit in front of the computer with the video of it open & try to do it over & over again

That's okay and all, but its discouraging for some people to have to try and watch some low quality video to learn something when even text would be more intuitive for them than just watching it being done.
MingoDynasty - June 17, 2007 01:37 AM (GMT)
Yeah, alot of the vids are low quality, have like 10x10 resolution, and run at like 3 fps. Sometimes I have to go snoopin around the breakdown thread to know what's goin on.
faulk - June 17, 2007 01:42 AM (GMT)
I've never found a trick/minicombo that didn't have a good quality video along with it somewhere (except something like inv neobak fall).

Lol... I remember spending hours learning the infinity from Nate's mouse drawn pictures, I came up with the extended infinity and thought it was the normal one (just an idea of his artistic abilities).. A few weeks ago I learned Kam's butterfly combo from the video alone.. If you can't figure a midbak out from even the shittiest video on the web, then you haven't tried long enough...
