Title: Thumbspin Reverse

k2thez - July 12, 2007 01:47 AM (GMT)
I searched around and i didn't find this topic. So here we go. When I look at videos or when people list the tricks they know, I always see thumbspin, never reverse thumbspin. There's a record for the most thumbspins in one push, but none for the reverse thumbaround. I was told that it's easier to keep a thumbspin balanced, but I don't find that true, the most rotations I've gotten on a thumbspin was 1.5, and the most for a reverse was a 7.0. I don't really get it.

Fake Reverse?

Fake Reverse is different from Thumbspin reverse. Fake Reverse spins on the thumb and index but thumbspin reverse spins on just the thumb.

mm i can do a fingerless fake reverse (which ends up spinning on the thumb) 2.0

i dont really know why it is the way it is. i think of it this way:

thumbaround as it is can really only go around 1.0. the only way to get it more than 1 spin is to spin it on your thumb, rather than around it. so a thumbaround 1.0 becomes thumbspin 1.5, 2.0, etc.

however, when doing a reverse thumbaround, and you want to get more spins, its easiest to let the pencil spin on the same part of the thumb as in the forward thumbspin (on the side close to 1). when spinning the pen there, its 1. easy to get a lot of spins, and 2. hard to then get it to spin around and catch it in the starting position of a thumbaround. that trick is a fake reverse. therefore, most people don't try doing a lot of spins for a fake reverse because its easier and arguably prettier to do a fake reverse.

my opinion :D

Fake Reverse?

I don't think I was talking about a fake reverse...? I meant like, have you ever heard of a reverse thumbspin? What I think of it as is a reverse thumbaround with a lot of rotations.

Fake Reverse would be another name for Fulltap Reverse.

Thanks, Tainted Elements, that cleared up some stuff but I still have a question. I know it's different for all spinners to do tricks, but I've heard that the thumbspin is easier to keep going, but i find it untrue. I can't do a thumbspin 2.0, it's just impossible for me, whereas a reverse thumbspin 5.0 is easy stuff. I still haven't met anyone that has the same question as me. There's a record for the thumbspin, it kinda looks like the reverse thumbspin gets a lot less respect.

I've never heard of a fake thumbspin before!!!!

but now I know!

Reverse ThumbSpin is very difficult. Are you sure you are doing a Reverse TS 5.0? Maybe you could film one? A Reverse TS would be the exact same as a normal TS but with the direction reversed. It would go half way around the thumb, spin on top of the thumb for a while, then complete its journey around the thumb. It would not spin on the index or the well of the hand.
There is no record for Reverse ThumbSpin, because to my knowledge, no-one can really get more than 3.0 spins on it.

Maybe this guy got a new record! :P:D

I don't think I can tape a video because my consistency is kinda questionable, and when I film I get nervous, and I can't really do anything. I know for a fact that it's a reverse thumbspin, not a faked reverse or anything like that. It doesn't travel on my index finger. I push the pen, it stays balanced on my thumb joint for a good amount of spins, then I catch it. The only real problem is consistency.

when you catch it does it go around the thumb or not? if its not going around the thumb its a fake if it does then if Peace is right youve probably got the record

Yes, and Eriror finds it easier to do bakfall than a halftap. Some people are good at one thing, and some people are good at others.

BTW most people think that thumspins are easier because the reverse is harder to catch. If you were good at catching it, then it may be possible for people to get a lot higher spins on revs then normals.

DaThroat - August 22, 2007 09:46 AM (GMT)
yeah i can do reverse too, but after i stopped practicing it my normal TS got better.

i use flick motion btw, like all my TA reverses.

Lord Michael Davis - August 22, 2007 01:52 PM (GMT)
TS Rev 7.0? i'm sure if you can hit that you could get something like 4.5 or 5.0 filmed? That would be incredable. I would say a Rev TS Y is roughly equal to a TS (Y x 2)
