Voted: HuroniX

mats didnt even do a real combo.... come to think of it, i dont think ive ever seen a real combo from him... its more like he show's off on or two individual tricks, and does 3 filler trick....

Voted for HuroniX as well, although I didn't particularly enjoy his combo. HuroniX, maybe it's just me, but it looks like you rush through your combos. It just looks like fingers are flying everywhere and you're just cramming in tricks like if you don't do 10 in a second your gonna die. The only reason you got my vote is because I felt that your video was more of a combo than Mats's.

HuroniX - July 23, 2007 12:18 AM (GMT)
Thanks SA. I know that I do it sometime. I am going to stop though, slow down my spinning, and make the tricks more appealing. Your hard voting helped me to understand. Thanks

ShortAssassin - July 23, 2007 12:19 AM (GMT)
Lol, dunno what the roll eyes face is for but if it did help, no problem. Often times I find that when I'm failing to do a combo, slowing it down helps, and makes it look smoother.

Oh, it mean't roll eyes! Opps, I meant this one. Sorry B)

@box: Thanks. Lol, X. Nice.

Oh ok, that makes more sense lol.

MingoDynasty - July 23, 2007 02:22 AM (GMT)
I voted for Huronix, because despite that it's a bad vid, it was still better than Mats' (lol sorry no offense :P)

Huronix
Pros: you actually did a combo/uh... looks like you put in some effort I guess lol
Cons: half your spinning wasn't in the range of your cam (I could barely see was goin on)/I'd have to agree with SA; it wasn't very smooth + cramming tricks
Bottom line: you reminded me too much of that Harvey13 guy from the World Tournament 07, which is here: http://media.putfile.com/Harvey-13

Mats
Pros: uh... there was a piano in the vid? lol
Cons: only thing I could make out of your 5fps vid was a fingerpass combo and you doing something with your right hand... in fact I'm not even totally sure it was a fingerpass cuz the cam was on the other side of your hand.../after your cont. fingerpass or whatever, it looked more like you only did like 5 "tricks" with your right hand.
Bottom line: you need more practice... and a new camera angle.

Sorry if I'm being too critical, but at least I'm being honest :o

HuroniX, everybody has said what I think already. I'd like to add something encouraging & say that this is one of the better videos i've seen of you, though.

Mats, you need to expand your trick list. The only difference i ever see in your combos is which hand you're doing them with, and seriously, its not hard to learn IA & TA on both hands.

So how come there are no posts explaining why they voted for Mats?

firebird - July 23, 2007 03:59 AM (GMT)
Mats' RH combo didn't look very good at all, and I'm not even exactly sure if actual tricks were done there at the beginning, but very few people spin well with their NDH. You just need to work more on NDH spinning before filming 1p2h videos. Swapping smoothness for creativity was a big risk here because it involved your NDH, and while the stall and transfer caught my interest more than Huronix's generic combo, I felt that it came at too great a price, as would have been the case with most spinners.

Huronix had considerably more variety but smoothness was a bit of an issue. Since I'm guessing it's his dominant hand, I couldn't excuse the lack of smoothness here to the nearly the same extent I could for Mats. Performing tricks fast does not necessarily make them smooth. Slowing down a bit, like SA mentioned, allows you to perform the tricks more smoothly because you have time to properly push the pen for each trick, among other things.
Moving out of the camera view also hurt your combo, as most viewers would probably have to watch the video more than once to figure out what tricks were done there.
Finally, your video was somewhat repetitive because you restricted yourself, willingly or unwillingly, to mostly fundamentals. If you would've cut the video down to about 13-14 seconds, you would have retained the essence of your combo and it wouldn't seem so protracted. (Again, this was only due to your specific tricks and the way you linked them; I'm not saying that all 18s videos should be truncated.)

In my opinion, there was nothing in either video that definitely raised it over the level of the other because both combos were flawed in different ways. Ultimately, I decided to null vote because the cons evened out: Mats' combo had a distinct disadvantage while Huronix's had several smaller flaws. I'm sure you two can film much better combos given time and practice, and I would like to see a rematch in a few months or so, after you guys have improved and honed your skills.

I would think the votes for Mats are because they enjoyed his video more maybe? HuroniX's was so clumsy it's pretty unbearable, at least Mats vid was short lol.

I nulled since both sucked.

Sathon - July 23, 2007 04:44 AM (GMT)
Oh crap... I accidentally voted for Mats... I wanna vote for Huronix.... oh sorry.. well nvm :(

Actually I liked this vid of Huronix more than any of his previous ones. But I hate that it's pretty much the same crap. Like the not smooth TA Harmonic beginning.
Umm....Mats combo is kinda weird... I think the cont IA with your left hand is nice, but other than that I don't know what's going on. You have a huge pause between the hand transition, and I thought you were going to play that piano... :(

I think he did an indexaround and hit the piano with it to make it stop, hence the name.

+1

Huronix, you need to plan out your combos more. Making them a certain length is a bad guideline, ESPECIALLY when battling. Also, try not to do the same tricks again in the same combo. I don't like the feeling of deja vu when watching combos.

Same to you Mats. Please plan out your combos. I got the feeling that you just stuck in the stall as the sole trick that could get you the win. If you want to make your combo a winning one, then try looking at the entire combo instead of focusing it all in one 'attack.' One trick isn't enough to get my vote.

Null voted

walkingjacket - July 23, 2007 05:50 AM (GMT)
Uhh...

I can't really tell which combo is better. >__>.

And...I've never actually seen a combo from Mats?

DaThroat - July 23, 2007 10:46 AM (GMT)
HuroniX got my vote. it wasn't that smooth and all, but it was just better to look at than Mats combo, if you could call it that(no offence man). i recommend that you make sure you can do the tricks smoothly first before you use them in a battle. i use to do stuff i sucked at and use them in vids. now i try to make simple stuff look cool.

i know Mats was trying to be creative, but you should at least throw in some regular stuff, so that you cover all ground.

Mats - July 25, 2007 11:51 PM (GMT)
HuroniX wins 16 - 11.

*goes to update ladder*
