Title: Mac Help
Description: iBook G4
Donk3y - August 2, 2007 06:56 PM (GMT)
Here's the situation guys. I picked up an iBook G4 from my friend. 1.33 ghz processor, 256 mb ram, 60 gig hdd, cd / dvd combo drive.
i went to install a clean OS X 2.2 on it but the discs wouldn't read so i thought it was the drive. I put in my ubuntu cd, booted to it, installed, everything works flawlessly.
i put my OS X discs in a different MAC and they booted fine as well.
question here is, do i need a special Boot CD for an iBook G4? Can it run OS X or do i need to try Tiger?
if anyone has ideas or a solution, the help would greatly be appreciated.

Here's a solution: sell the Mac and get an HP with Vista.
J/k, I love both.
Try playing a DVD to make sure that the drive isn't the problem...

are you sure you want to get tiger? i mean the minimum RAM requirement for Tiger is 256 mb, but its much better to use if you have a greater amount of RAM ie. 512. I would keep Ubuntu on the Mac but thats me because im obsessed with Linux

OSX should work fine on an iBook, and I'm pretty sure it shouldn't give you any trouble installing, either. If its not installing, I'd suggest emailing the support from the apple site.

I've got a better idea. Why don't I calculate how much time you've just wasted?
