Title: Ps Sounds Nerdy
Description: Its true!!
blugyblug - August 4, 2007 03:31 AM (GMT)
lol im serious it IS nerdy
before i joined UCPSB i only knew the really famous pen mods like RSVP MX and Dr. KT etc. but now i have looked at some huge pen lists and there r names like
RSVP G2.305 type RTS 5.702 (just kiddin about that) but yea, there IS a pen that has a name of something along those lines.
Even my sis, who was reading a thread over my shoulder once commented that you/we sounded reallly nerdy. But that might also be because not matter what she does, she cannot do a charge xD (yet knows about other random pen tricks)
AND TRICKS R EVEN WORSE! sheesh..
e.g double charge>shadow 12-23-34>sonic34-23-12 to Bakfall harmonic (lol)
man, it sounds like a battle plan or something
General P.S "OK! WE WILL SEND A DOUBLE CHARGE TO THE WESTFRONT TO CATCH THE ENEMY UNAWARES, FOLLOWED BY A SHADOW 12-23-34 FROM THE NINJAS!" :metal:
Private N.oob "But sir! what about the easterntrenches? we still 'ave some bakfall harmonics in waiting sir!" [/rant]
Ah wells, at least it looks cool
Meh, im not saying PS is bad, (there r more pros than cons =D) just pointing it out

i still get girlfriends.
Zombo - August 4, 2007 03:43 AM (GMT)
well yea... of course we're going to use vocabulary terms that are unfamiliar to others that's normal... every hobby has them.

yeah i feel like a huge nerd all the time. its cool, as long as you aren't really a weirdo people won't see you as one just cause you have a weird hobby or know a lot about something.
Trogz - August 4, 2007 04:33 AM (GMT)
if you dont like it you can just leave... <_<

ROFL yeah, I bet everyone here agrees with you but they dont care really. I really care if I'm nerdy because people from my school think the pen spinning is awesome and takes a lots of skills. They even want to start a pen spinning club because of me  and Im 14. B) B)

QFT..
let me remind you, i assume you penspin, you decided to make an account on a pen spinning forum, your posting here. im tired of all this hypocritical shit. you do the same thing we all do, so don't fucking post here with that attitude. if you think pen spinning is nerdy and "not cool" then please: :ban: :gtfo:
- i believe this whole thread is a fucking waste of shit that is taking up space and therefore, does not belong in the general discussion.
-if you want to rant to about the negative things in your life, just hide in a corner and slit your wrists, rather than bitching to us here on the forums..
my final opinion, this dude is a douche is he is refering to pen spinning with his little fucking mini-rant in negativity.. locking the thread would be nice..

God damn. Lighten up guys.
I have said this many times before but you have to admit, PS as a hobby is completely ridiculous. Look in the mirror. We are a bunch of guys who get together on a forum to discuss different ways of flicking a pen around. Even after over one year of spinning I think it's silly.
Don't get me wrong. I love PS. It's just not something I can really bring myself to take too seriously.

It's worse to get annoyed by someone calling you something. Seriously dude, calm down. Theres no need to cause a flame war(that's me saying that) against someone who's already wasting his life ranting. Just move on with life everybody, and obliterate this thread.
K4S - August 4, 2007 05:59 AM (GMT)
In before lock!
Haha, this thread is already going downhill on the first page

And football (soccer players) kick around a bag of air, and ballas throw around a bag of air. Everything has an air of seeming lameness about it when you break it down into what it actually is.
faulk - August 4, 2007 06:27 AM (GMT)
Lol, I love pen spinning, and I don't care about the names.
But TBH, if I were in charge, I wouldn't have named the tricks "sonic" and "shadow" like that. THOSE sound kind of cheesy (especially how sonic is named after sonic the hedgehog..lol...).
But if my views have shattered your fragile little world now :'(....
Peace - August 4, 2007 06:34 AM (GMT)
What would you have named them then (out of interest)?
walkingjacket - August 4, 2007 06:45 AM (GMT)
Uhh...
If you were to play a sport like rugby, people would think you're a brute.
You pen spin, people would think you're a nerd.
I'm not sure if this makes any sense, but wouldn't that be just like... Stereotypical for people to think that way?
Edit:
Darn, I'm not even sure where I'm getting at..
platypusvictim9 - August 4, 2007 06:59 AM (GMT)
Yea I know what you mean WJ. I don't know why, but penspinning just seems lame to people. I don't really understand that prejudged view(does that make sense lol?) though. But you can't really compare a sport and a hobby(even though a sport can be a hobby) Cause people who play sports are out there taking injuries, while some one practicing a manipulation sits in their room and, well, practices. I suppose it's because in this world sports are so popular, so when you spend time acquiring some other skill, people see it as time that could be spent doing something more productive. I guess lol, that was kind of a mini rant lol.
Merkuury - August 4, 2007 07:09 AM (GMT)
Best topic for a while.
But penspinning is nerdy thing compared to eg. sports.

Pen spinning is a sport.
DaThroat - August 4, 2007 08:39 AM (GMT)
i don't really care. evey manipulation will be considered 'nerdy' to some extent.
XCM - moving pieces of paper around.
Rubiks Cube - turning some plastic around a pivot
Yoyo - need i say more?
Coin manipulation/Poker Chip Displays - playing with money?
PS is just for fun, so even if its nerdy, i'm still gonna PS since it doesn't bug my conscience when i do it.
UnEmploymentDude - August 4, 2007 09:18 AM (GMT)
Ehhh, if you think its nerdy and embarrassing to do, then ehh. Just use your pens to write.
And dont give a rat's ass about what other assholes[I use the term loosely] think, keep on spinning.
Zombo - August 4, 2007 02:51 PM (GMT)
we give complex names to our tircks to make it sound hot, just like cars sometime have ridiculous names with detailed specs that nobody know what they're talking about unless you research cars a lot.
Vua - August 4, 2007 04:00 PM (GMT)
Maybe my opinion is skewed because I go to a college preparatory school where everyone wastes their lives studying for ap and ib exams and doing ridiculous amounts of work for school, but I personally think PS is pretty sweet. Most people at school think its cool too and are amazed by simple tricks like TA and charge. But(lol starting a sentance with but) even if pen spinning makes you a nerd, what does that even matter? It's not like your life will be drastically altered, or that people will just be able to look at you and know you pen spin and thusly avoid you like the plague. I unno, i kinda think alot of things that nerds do are fun (video games, PS in your opinion, nerd humor is hilarious too lol)
random side note: if my sister was lookin over my shoulder and then said what i was doin was nerdy, shed get a backhand to the face.

Girls like talented, smart, hot guys
@Vua: I'd totally hit my sister too. But I have a brother, so I'm allowed to hit him anyway too
ShortAssassin - August 4, 2007 04:20 PM (GMT)
Wow, didn't know people were so sensitive to being called a nerd lol.
ShadowPen - August 4, 2007 04:34 PM (GMT)
People are sensitive to being called nerd, but I pull out saying penspinners are smart and talented, no one even reacts <_< But siblings get on your nerves, you gotta smack them. Right now my brother is singing and I'm telling him to shut up. :angryfire:
AlmightyMalachi - August 4, 2007 04:55 PM (GMT)
I love Linux/Unix, I make programs. I build computers. I'm a white guy with an afro. I spin pens. and i'm still the coolest person in the school. Nerds are the coolest people, embrace the NERD.
Vua - August 4, 2007 05:16 PM (GMT)
lol my sister isnt much of a girl. but she doesnt respond to any other kind of discipline.
but yea alot of people are sensitive about being called nerds because nerd has a horrible connotation and when someone calls you that they obviously mean to insult you.
Cybrax2 - August 4, 2007 06:28 PM (GMT)
It's called making PenSpinning an easier life.
What do you want us to say? Do that loopy thing after the spin above your hand.
But yeah, it does sound complicated, even when you hear UCPSB.
firebird - August 4, 2007 06:58 PM (GMT)
I think most of you are misunderstanding the thread. The thread author is saying PS lingo sounds nerdy, not PS itself. Jargon is just that, a specialized vocabulary shared by members with a common interest. It is incomprehensible to outsiders, so you wouldn't bother wasting your time using it in front of them. So I don't see the problem with PS "sounding" nerdy, because those who don't know what it means will almost never hear it. This doesn't apply only to PS but any profession or hobby that uses a specialized vocabulary (legalese, computerese, etc.).
strat1227 - August 4, 2007 08:13 PM (GMT)
ok guys, let me throw something out there for you.... PS'ing IS nerdy.
get over it.
ShortAssassin - August 4, 2007 08:27 PM (GMT)
But zomg Start1337! I r teh p3nspinn3r nd imda coolist dood evar! it hertz wen u maek fun of p3nspining liek that. i thunk u need to leev teh foruhms cuz ur hertzing peeples feelings. :ban: :gtfo: :stfu: :faq: :pingpong: :spin:
Anyway, I think Firebird is correct in saying that the OP was speaking specifically of PSing lingo. Nothing to get worked up over here, I think we can all agree that the names of tricks certainly sound odd to those that don't PS.
Icepray - August 4, 2007 08:40 PM (GMT)
I'm a nerd... I love fantasy books, use to play D&D, play videogames (cut down by 70% ! *cheers*), love anime/mangas, penspin... So? I'm quite popular at school and I get girlfriends lol, I prefer being this than a meathead.
ShortAssassin - August 4, 2007 08:59 PM (GMT)
That makes you a geek not a nerd :).

What's the difference?
walkingjacket - August 4, 2007 09:57 PM (GMT)
Nerd = Intelligent?
Geek = Games. Games. Games.
^Someone could probably add more to that.
strat1227 - August 4, 2007 10:01 PM (GMT)
i think this has been discussed before but IMO:
Geek- cliche smart guy, glasses, tall, pale, lanky, lots of books, streight A's, teacher's pet
Nerd- doesnt have to be smart (usually isnt), does alot of "uncool" things.
so by those definitions penspinning would be nerdy
ShortAssassin - August 4, 2007 10:07 PM (GMT)
Hmm, my definitions are almost opposite.
Geek = Obsessive over one or more things that might be considered odd to obsess over.
Hence, Star Wars Geek, Harry Potter Geek, etc.
Nerd = Essentially a geek, but over school related topics. Not necessarily a genius, but
someone who has a intense interest in math, science, etc. Doesn't mean they are
good at everything school related, but often times they are.
