firebird - August 4, 2007 06:44 PM (GMT)
Song: Photo Jaunie (André Gagnon)
Length: 4 pages
Difficulty: very easy (0.5/5)
Sign-up Deadline: 11 August 2007
Submission Deadline: none

Submission Guidelines
1. Sign up and submit entries in this thread. Video is the preferred format but audio is also acceptable.
2. You can choose to submit at any time, even before August 11.
3. The poll will be created only once the sign-up deadline has passed and all confirmed contestants have submitted their entries, after which all submissions will be considered final (i.e. you can replace your entry as many times as you like up to this point). If all contestants have submitted their final entries well before August 11 and it feels like nobody else will join, the poll may be created early.
4. You can opt to withdraw at any reasonable time after signing up. If you feel like you can't honestly participate after joining for whatever reason, then please withdraw sooner than later. If you don't provide legitimate updates on your status within every five (5) days, you will automatically be pulled from the battle and reinstated only under extenuating circumstances. This is just to keep the battle moving so we can move on to the next battle in a timely fashion.

this is a very easy piece, with no recording provided.

The challenge will be to show an understanding of the meaning of the piece and show a meaningful interpretation only relying on the sheets and the title of the piece.

Photo Jaunie means Yellowed Photo, as in "The photo is yellowed by age."

It's too hard for me yos.

Oh wow, I'm so psyched for a piano battle  4 pages though. Is it to be played as written, or can we improvise on some parts?

rookee - August 5, 2007 03:06 AM (GMT)
Play it at 250 BPM and FFF.

By improvisation, you mean playing notes that are not written? I think you shouldn't derive from the notes written too much, otherwise it will be hard to compare with the other performances.

Just interpret dynamics.

Zombo - August 5, 2007 04:04 AM (GMT)

Alright. Put me in as a contestant? B)

Alright, I added you.

I won't be able to begin learning this piece until my exams finish on Saturday. And when I do, I won't be playing the repeats btw.

Notes:
It's not the best; there are a few mistakes but I'm lazy to record a new version.
The pedal of my piano doesn't hold some notes properly, it's not me releasing the pedal too early.
I didn't play the third page. I skipped from the end of page 2 to the bottom of page 4.
I played the piece a bit faster than the listed tempo.
I put the camera farther away this time to see if it would distinguish between loud and soft better. The difference is only a slight improvement, but an improvement nonetheless.

Whoever films last, just make the battle poll.
I'll be practicing Granado Espada, among other pieces, and hopefully I'll be able to submit for that battle.

not bad not bad... except the part in the middle (2:06) the chords are too accentuated and disjoint, it sounds jumpy. it's actually a smooth phrase

If nobody else is gonna submit I'm declaring myself the winner.
