Title: New Trick:stairs Fall

Teatime - August 6, 2007 04:05 PM (GMT)
I was walking with a friend of mine down some stairs, obviously I was spinning, when I dropped my pen (I wish I could remember which trick it was), causing the pen to drop on the tip of the first stair, then the other tip on the 2nd one, and so on for like 10 stairs. You know, like that springy thing in Ace Ventura, only with a pen.
I thought it was really cool and should definitely be tried! I would have tried a to repeat that if I wasn't in a hurry to a lecture or afraid that my pen will probably not survive the learning curve.
The new level of pen spinning should definitely involve the environment, like doing a Stairs fall and running down to catch it right before it lands :P

Zombo - August 6, 2007 04:08 PM (GMT)
ahah yea, but damn that's hard to film

Teatime - August 6, 2007 04:27 PM (GMT)
We should probably get someone to film it for us then, like follow us around and stuff.

RippDrive - August 6, 2007 04:33 PM (GMT)
You must end up with a lot of broken pens.

AlmightyMalachi - August 6, 2007 05:53 PM (GMT)
hahaha, a man of brilliance*Let's Drop My Valuable Pen Down the Stairs and see What Happens!* sort of like. Hotpockets, where did they get that catch phrase. HOT-Pockets*singing*. at the corporate office," Hey bill, how's that hotpocket jingle coming, let's hear it......"h...ot...Pockets"...BRILLIANT!...what about Mexico..."Caliente Pockets"

----
fixed spelling on "caliente". Yay for the Jim Gaffigan reference, even though it's not a very good fit. :D

Lol the birth of environment tricks? Bouncing pens off walls and tables, doing pen stalls/grinds on the edge of surfaces. If you can get a video of this stuff that would be pretty...awesome.

Eburt - August 6, 2007 06:13 PM (GMT)
eh, the concept isn't really new... of course you also don't actually have to use stairs for the trick, however it is very difficult to do on your hands... after 5 minutes I was able to flip it three times consecutively but it was pretty lucky... the real hard part would be getting it to that position... some sort of verticle stall? Also very difficult...

grsbmd - August 6, 2007 06:13 PM (GMT)
There is some research going on using a table for tricks.

I don't know if I was supposed to say that...

It's not the birth of them. The first I remember was someone in upsb doing a trick that bounced off his monitor, though Zombo prolly knows an earlier example..
There have since been tricks like Kaisen's carpet trick in Impulse and table-based tricks too.
It would be nice to see some people really go out there and try some more of this stuff :)

I think the problem with this line of research and the fact that this isnt advancing very fast, is because people dont wanna throw their pen mods at things.

Peace - August 6, 2007 06:39 PM (GMT)
Then don't use a modded pen, or just go double capped.

Your gonna have to practice with a pen mod eventually I think...

ShortAssassin - August 6, 2007 06:54 PM (GMT)
Or you could go with a slinky.

Tainted Elements - August 6, 2007 07:05 PM (GMT)
get back to me when you can do a stair rise.

Pen spinning - Defying the laws of gravity!

I never said the concept of using the environment was new, I just said that it will be worked out eventually

its possible just like throw it so it spins up like a wheel

ShadowPen - August 7, 2007 02:42 AM (GMT)
I wouldn't exactly call it a trick. Just a coincidence that your pen fell like that.

kasra12321 - August 7, 2007 05:31 AM (GMT)
thats cool but what would be cooler is to teacha bird to catch the pen in midair na dthen it flies around. Anf throws it to u.

Zombo - August 7, 2007 05:46 AM (GMT)
just use a comssa or something, they're bouncing and resilient.

@shadowpen, a coincidence becomes a trick once you can consistently get it :)

firebird - August 7, 2007 07:13 AM (GMT)
Only trick I've heard of to now that has "drop" in the breakdown.

I would teach that bird to go fetch me a snack while i'm penspinning too.

I think this thread is a little funny though, I mean, I could drop my pen and make it bounce down the stairs, but I don't think practising throwing your pen down the stairs will ever get this trick consistent. I'm skeptical about this trick ever being used, that's all.

CPC - August 7, 2007 06:26 PM (GMT)
It could be used on a team spinning vid for doubles as a transition.
One person spins at the top of the stairs then lets it jump down the stairs to the person at the bottom.

ShortAssassin - August 7, 2007 06:34 PM (GMT)
Sounds like a dumb idea to me.

Teatime - August 7, 2007 08:37 PM (GMT)
Damn it's so had to convict tone through posts.
In case you all didn't understand, I was JOKING.
I was serious about using the environment, No I wasn't serious about throwing my pen down the stairs actually being a trick. jeez
The pen just dropped and did something cool, that's it ;P

ShortAssassin - August 7, 2007 08:43 PM (GMT)
Why do you want to convict your tone? What did it do?

Teatime - August 7, 2007 08:49 PM (GMT)
it have been bad. baaaaadddddd

ShadowPen - August 8, 2007 04:08 AM (GMT)
You mean to say 'convey' tone, Teatime. Convict is to like, bring in a criminal. Use emoticons. That'll help

Zombo - August 8, 2007 04:10 AM (GMT)
stay on-topic, please. :teach:

Crzyazn - August 9, 2007 01:03 AM (GMT)
Anyone remember bonkura's solo vid?

that thing where he was hitting his pen around, making it balance

couldn't that be considered "using the surrounding environment"?

chungy - August 15, 2007 02:13 AM (GMT)
These ideas are great! Now we just need someone to lead the way and invent a bunch of tricks which involve the environment.
