Title: How Do You Do The Things You Do?

Alright, I've been going at this for a week or so now. I've got pretty much all the fundies down. I was just wondering, when you first started, and your practicing did you do just moves, or combos? I find that If I work on one thing over and over for a bit, everything else is not as smooth as it was. When I do a combo, I drop. I know it all comes down to practice, I've got no issues with that, but after watching some of these damn videos, I was curious. How the hell are you all so smooth? Anyone have any good fundamental combos to share from when they were learning?

I was doing Sonic rise, ta harmonic to rev finger pass, then charges 2-3/1-2/2-3, wash rinse and repeat.

Practice.

I would suggest that you learn tricks while connecting them to combos. Because when you focus on just learning tricks you usually start the pen in the same position every time. Then when you try to do that trick in a combo it is much harder to do cause the pen does not always start in the same position. But if you practice doing the trick you are trying to learn in a combo you get used to doing the trick after other tricks, you learn how to do the trick before the trick you are trying to learn in a way that sets you up for your new trick. Also when doing it in a combo you learn how to try to get it to end in a certain position so that you can smoothly continue your combo.

I only have just gotten smooth a few weeks ago, but it just takes a lot of practise and dedication.

Eriror can defy gravity, don't listen to him.

Oddly enough, when I started pen spinning, I didn't bother with combos at all and only focused on getting the trick down on their own. Practicing combos and freestyling came after having a decent repertoire of trick under my belt.

Same for me. I've only started serious linkage work lately since I didn't have as much time to learn new tricks.

This is how I started spinning too. But when I tried to do combos it seemed like I had to learn the tricks all over again just to get the combo smooth.

odd, linkage came very quickly for me, although I did struggle with catching it at different slots at times.

That was kind of the case with me, because I had to get used to where to get the tricks to land so the transition in between tricks would be easier and more smooth.
I feel I still need to get used to different types of landings for most of the tricks I do so I don't just end up doing the same combos over and over again.
