Title: Smoothness Or Speed

iLLfOX - August 19, 2007 06:25 AM (GMT)
I just wanted to know and get some percentages
I prefer to spin ore smoothly, i want people to comprehend what im doing.

Onyx-o7 - August 19, 2007 06:30 AM (GMT)
I prefer smoothness because to me means good linking. IMO Both of them works great.

Eriror - August 19, 2007 06:34 AM (GMT)
You're implying that when tricks are being executed quickly, they can't be smooth.

iLLfOX - August 19, 2007 06:46 AM (GMT)
no
im saying smoothly as in not hectic
like dkgamer in this vid it can be a little faster though

If it must be a choice between speed and smoothness, I'll go with smoothness. High speed is not impressive and, in my opinion, takes away from the combo as it makes the individual tricks harder to see. Unless the pen is moving very slow, I don't care about the speed.

I'm also more interested in how the pen moves in a combo as a whole. Spinning that is too fast just gives me a blur that I will ignore.

DaThroat - August 19, 2007 06:58 AM (GMT)
i like smoothness WITH SOFT TOUCH, not speed.. like the way bonkura spun in round 1 and 2 of the WT 2007..

um, qft!

I would take both.

But I believe smoothness is more important.

Peace - August 19, 2007 09:21 AM (GMT)
Smoothness all the way over speed. Although, speed and smoothness are also linked.

ellusion67 - August 19, 2007 09:31 AM (GMT)
i think to make a good combo..both are important

FireFaith - August 19, 2007 02:03 PM (GMT)

he's asking what is more preferable if you see someone with a video that's super fast but sloppy or a video thats smooth but slow.

RippDrive - August 19, 2007 03:13 PM (GMT)
Exact results I expected. I'm also pretty sure this has been debated many times before.

Smoothness always. There was this vid of (I forgot who) who spin a pencil very slow but hella smooth. God that was sick  . I think it was a ladder match :boing:, I think it was donkey who did that

Probably Leviathan.

Smoothness > Speed. IMO, you can never have enough smoothness. Smoothness is like another dimension to proficiency.

AlmightyMalachi - August 19, 2007 07:47 PM (GMT)
speed=cant see
smoothness=BEAUTY
point proven

ShortAssassin - August 19, 2007 07:53 PM (GMT)

Wow no votes for speed. I chose smoothness because it looks pretty.

yoonkwun - August 19, 2007 11:49 PM (GMT)
I can't vote, but if I could, i would choose Speed.

I like it when it's spinning like crazy and you have no clue what he/she's doing, makes it looks cool and professional.

Well thank god you can't vote, you'd ruin Smoothness's perfect record. You probably can't tell what anyone is doing because your eye isn't trained yet, not because they are particularly fast.

pholord - August 20, 2007 12:11 AM (GMT)
Voted smoothness. Yea speed is pretty cool and all but smoothness just looks better and demonstrates more control and skill than speed alone. The most impressive of course is a mix of smoothness and speed like KTH at the end of the world tournament.

whe you first start pen spinning, thats what you notice (PDS 1ST).
once you understand ps more, and more, smoothness ultimately wins over.

Crzyazn - August 20, 2007 12:26 AM (GMT)
any dumbass can do difficult tricks with crappy linkage

smoothness FTW

Yeah sorta my stance, sorta...

I prefer smoothness overall. But if I'm doing a demonstration in front of non-spinners, I just do a complete spam combo of sonics, passes, and if their lucky some arounds!

Scott Shaputis - August 20, 2007 01:19 AM (GMT)
such a retarded topic and poll it is so obvious what topic is gonna win that is the only reason i voted for speed because i knew that i would be the only vote for it.
