Title: Mafia Game #3 - Post Game Thread
Description: Everybody can discuss here!
Zombo - August 19, 2007 02:51 PM (GMT)
Keep all post-game discussion here for this town victory.
Game threadBe sure to read the Night actions and the Role PMs.
I will reveal my 3 stars later.
Additional Notes:
-Lopsided victory by the town. I thought the Town played very sloppy in the last 2 games, so I was more lenient this time and made a game that was favorable to the Town (fewer number of mafia).
-Town were very systematic in their investigation. Players who were inexperienced or "bad" were straightened out early in the game so that even if they don't contribute much, they don't add to the suspicions because of valid early claims. This is how the town should play in ALL games, which is to minimize the confusion. Vanilla townies have no reason to lie and if revealing an information will take down a Mafia member, they should do so even at the cost of their life. This is because trading a vanilla townie for a mafia 1:1 is always good.
-No researcher was killed in the game, meaning no trick was even revealed in-game.
-The game mechanisms were quite complex but unfortunately they were not used. When a mafia hacks into a computer, the security experts are notified of which computer is hacked and in addition, the owner of the computer is also notified that his computer has been breached. Since it takes another night for the hacker to copy the data, it's possible for the town to defend by either having the researcher burn a dvd, thus erasing the data (copy becomes void) or by having the security expert monitoring that computer to prevent copy and track down the mafia. Of course, if the mafia realizes this, they may just hack a computer to lure the researcher into burning a dvd, and then kill him to gain the data.
-The game was meant to be a dilemna for the mafia. If they had only one project data on them, they could choose to either escape with only one, or try to get two. By escaping with only one, they're effectively sacrificing one mafia member to secure one projecet, which may be favorable if the mafia has all 3 members left.
-The game was also meant to be a battle on two front: physical and electronical. Unfortunately, no hacking was performed.
-In theory, hackers can win in three nights. That's either by killing one each night for the first two nights with a project and then escaping on the third night, or by hacking two computers on the first night, copying successfully for both computers on the second night, and then escaping. Conversely, town could win in 3 days minimum, which they did.
-Congratulations to the town for the win
-Big thanks to firebird for providing the narrations, which he will hopefully finish.

NOTICE HOW EBURT FLIPS OUT ON ME MULTIPLE TIMES EVEN THOUGH I WAS THE FIRST (or lead the battle) TO VOTE LYNCH AND ALL THE MAFIAS.
By the way, I had no idea kensai/spinofdoom/strat were mafia. I didn't know Eriror was a Security expert. Everything I posted that seemed 'enigmatic' was a bunch of bullshit. The original strategy of mine was to seem really, really suspicious and hope the mafia lynched me instead of someone important. Why would I make that sacrifice? I'm not sure, but it seemed pretty smart at the time
kasra12321 - August 19, 2007 03:29 PM (GMT)
that was a great game and i feel really retarded getting pranked.
Webo Splash - August 19, 2007 04:14 PM (GMT)
Hahah Kasra got punk'd. Good game. Confusing, but good game.
Teatime - August 19, 2007 04:26 PM (GMT)
way to go guys, that was ass whopping to take out 2 mafia on the first 2 days :)
Way to go SA, Retro for playing in a completely pointless cryptic way :D and all the other town how managed to see throw the words. Well played
Joshua - August 19, 2007 04:32 PM (GMT)
I was wrong in thinking that I had enough time to play this. Because every time I went to go rip or burn my data, the day would be over; every time I thought I had a few hours to decide who to vote for and what reasoning to give, the day would be over.
That was too quick for my liking.
Good job to all town members, though.
Eburt ftw, in my opinion. SA and Retro had the right idea, but went about it in all the wrong ways.
Whatevs.
rookee - August 19, 2007 04:38 PM (GMT)
Mafia got owned.
Ready to play rumble?
ShortAssassin - August 19, 2007 04:42 PM (GMT)
LMAO @ the prank on Kasra. That was hilarious to read.
GG Town, although I was really looking forward to that 4th day where we are were all confused because only Eburt and Flip were left to role claim.
Eburt - August 19, 2007 05:23 PM (GMT)
Well Strat, looks like your 0 for 3 now in Mafia :P Perhaps in #4 (if/when it happens).
As for that prank, I was laughing my ass off. I mean strat basically gave up, and then everyone was like OMG, its Kasra. Vote Kasra. Good stuff.
Other than that, really fun game, but I gotta say we got pretty lucky. I mean like Zombo said, the Mafia didn't really have any big advantage, as well as a puzzle. Also there was the getting Spin on day 1 (pretty much luck that he was Mafia). Kensai on day two was like 50/50 luck vs suspicion... and then strat gave up. Honestly I think that was a mistake... prhaps you could have stayed alive. And day 4 would have put you more or less in the clear, me or Flip definately would have died.
Hoestly I was really worried about day four, since being one of the last to claim basically means nothing, hence my hint about the backaround... (I was David Weis in game 1, interesting coincidence?) Fortunately it didn't matter.
Also, pretending to understand Retro was total BS to try and get him to give a little more info. The other BS was the bit about the doctor. I just wanted Strat not to be able to claim it. I was kinda thinking there probably wasn't one, and if he had claimed it then there's no way any one would have lynched him. By being so sure that there was one I was hoping he wouldn't claim it since he would be afraid of counter-claim.
So congrats to the townies, and good job to Strat. You really did hold out pretty well in the end there. GG.
Teatime - August 19, 2007 05:28 PM (GMT)
I doubt Strat would have lived past the 3rd day. His trick was the most suspicious, he was partly defensive of Kensai, and before the prank it seems like he was well on his way to the executioner.
ShortAssassin - August 19, 2007 05:31 PM (GMT)
Damn, anyone other than Zombo wanna set up game #4? I don't think we need narratives, just someone to come up with the story and send out the PMs etc.
Eburt - August 19, 2007 05:33 PM (GMT)
I might do it SA, I was considering offering, but it'll still b a while before it happens.
ShortAssassin - August 19, 2007 05:36 PM (GMT)
Flip - August 19, 2007 05:39 PM (GMT)
Yeah strat was definitly done for after mine and eburt's "attacks". I'd host another mafia game (a non-themed one).
I'm happy that I was 3 for 3 with finding the mafia (was the 2nd to vote for spinofdoom and the 1st to vote for kensai and strat).
ShortAssassin - August 19, 2007 05:42 PM (GMT)
I'd suspected Strat from the beginning because he was doing exactly what he did last game lol. Kensai I had suspisions of because he clearly had no idea what my metaphors meant and he seemed frustrated with Spin. Spin wasn't really a target of mine but we needed to get something done the first day.
Teatime - August 19, 2007 05:44 PM (GMT)
I'm so in for the next game!
Zombo - August 19, 2007 05:55 PM (GMT)
hosting a game requires a lot of preparation; if you want your game to be really interesting, you really need to come up with a good story, and new gameplay mechanics that sets the game apart.
Not only that, you need to test your game to check for balance. Try to eliminate unbreakable strategies and such.

See through my words?
But anyways, all's well that ends well, dick.

Not through yours, through Strat's

none of that is really necisary... it makes your games fun as hell to play, but if like flip or eburt set one up, they dont need to mess with all that stuff... simple mafia game would surfice...
@ Eburt-- No, i was completely fucked lol... i had no idea about any roles or anything, and you caught all of my inevitable mistakes .... there wasn't much else to do ....
@ Joshua-- No biggie dude, you didnt miss much
@ SA-- Meh, i play the same whether im mafia or town lol... basically i just try to forget im mafia, and do what i would do if i were town... couple of things: i DID try to vote for spin, he was a lost cause. and i DIDNT find kensai suspicious (even though i knew he was). nothing he did would have caused me to think he was mafia if i didnt already know.... so i guess that just means im a horrible mafia player lol...
@ Kasra-- dude, that was epic. thank you.
Zombo - August 19, 2007 08:27 PM (GMT)
simple mafia is like... no role are given (role claim = impossible), all powers are revealed at the beginning, meaning you know exactly which powers are in, but not who has it.
ShortAssassin - August 19, 2007 08:34 PM (GMT)
Yeah, Zombo Mafia > Simple Mafia. We could just do other shit though instead of PSing themes.
Zombo - August 19, 2007 08:37 PM (GMT)
i always useds PS themes cuz:
1) it's a ps board
2) Everybody know what are good roles in PS themes, not true for others.
ShortAssassin - August 19, 2007 08:43 PM (GMT)
Yeah, just gonna be hard to come up with more PSing themes. We've done famous Spinners, Tricks, and Mods. I guess we could do like, famous mini combos lol. Or famous Hybrid tricks.
Zombo - August 19, 2007 09:04 PM (GMT)
Most commonly used body parts in PS:
thumb, index, middle, ring, pinky, arm, elbow, wrist, thumbflap, etc.
platypusvictim9 - August 19, 2007 10:23 PM (GMT)
I'm pretty dissapointed that no one waited for Firebird's narratives, you guys say that having a well prepared game is better than a simple one, but you don't even wait for the narratives, which further the story and give insight on roles and things like that... :dunno:
Zombo - August 19, 2007 10:30 PM (GMT)
not really, narratives are not supposed to give any info away, they're just there for flavor. kensai made a mistake last round by confirming toast's innocence in a narrative.
kensai - August 20, 2007 12:00 PM (GMT)
Haha, gratz to the Town! The Town lineup was great this time, I mean really great: SA, Eburt, Joshua...we Mafia played badly too, we didn't have much coordination; I mean, we didn't even send the PM before the deadline. And hell, Russell wasn't even following the thread properly, much less posting in it. And yes, I was frustrated that he didn't want to be replaced even after prodding him...
Hmm honestly, I think that the Townies had a bigger advantage this time, especially given that the game mechanics were such that Vanilla Townies all had actions, which they fully utilized in ferreting me out. I actually wanted to claim the role of Signal Jammer (Doctor) but because of the narrative I couldn't (it explicitly stated that no one was killed by choice). My suggestion would be to give the Mafia a bit more of an edge at the start (see Game 2) and use the narratives to give hints about Mafia and 3rd party actions, rather than give Vanilla Townies actions. Because if you think about it, the Townies in this game had 2 defenses: knowledge of their day actions, and their trick claim. Essentially the Mafia will be found out much more quickly with no solid defenses during the day, so even their advantage of anonymity is quickly removed.
Well anyways, really well done, Town, I'm glad to have been played alongside a very intelligent bunch. Still, I underestimated you guys at times...I was laughing my ass off when I checked the board and found out I had been lynched! Ha!
kensai - August 24, 2007 01:54 AM (GMT)
Btw, is Stefan still doing the narratives for the Mafia game?

3. ShortAssassin: Very good deductions, managed to figure most of the game mechanics from the get-go, which helped town a lot.
2. Eburt: Patient in the early game and was able to see through the "fog" of inexperienced/confusing townies and the real culprits. Also contributed on the attack on the last mafia member.
1. Flip: Lead the charge on all mafia member. He's the real mafia killer.
