Title: No Limit Texas Hold'em
Description: Forum Game!
ShortAssassin - August 21, 2007 10:33 PM (GMT)
PLEASE READ EVERYTHING TO MAKE SURE YOU UNDERSTAND THE RULES. THERE ARE ALSO SOME ISSUES OPEN FOR DEBATE.
No Limit Texas Hold Em Forum Game
Welcome to the Texas Hold Em Forum game. Here is how the game will be structered:
Using a real card deck, I will be drawing your hands (and informing you of your cards via PM) and the community cards (you will be informed of community cards in the thread). I will not be giving people good/bad hands based on what they've gotten in the past, everything is completely random. Do not complain to me that all of your hands suck, just do not play them or try to bluff your opponents.
The order of players is Eburt > Zombo > Kasra > Flip > Eriror > HuroniX. You must picture yourselves at a table. Left of Eburt is Zombo, left of Zombo is Kasra, etc. This also means left of HuroniX is Eburt. YOU MUST ALWAYS BET AFTER THE PERSON ON YOUR RIGHT UNLESS YOU ARE FIRST TO ACT. I DO NOT WANT TO SEE PEOPLE RANDOMLY PLACING BETS OUT OF ORDER.
You will each start with 1000 chips of equal value (1). The initial big blind will be 20, and the initial small blind 10. Blinds may raise during the course of the game as players are eliminated.
Now for the rules:
Hold Em has 4 stages: Pre-Flop, Flop, Turn, and River.
During the Pre-Flop stage each player will be given 2 cards known only to them (given via PM). There will be a figurative dealer (Eburt was randomly selected via dice roll to start as dealer) and the person to the left of the dealer is known as the small blind. That person must put the value of the small blind (initial value 10) into the pot. To the left of the small blind is the big blind, who must put the value of the big blind into the pot (initial value 20). Blinds prevent people from playing no hands without losing money. The person to the left of the big blind is first to act. This person has 3 choices: Fold, Call, or Raise. If he opts to fold, he puts no chips into the pot and "throws his cards away." He may no longer participate in this hand. If he chooses to call, he pays the value of the big blind, and may participate in the hand. If he chooses to raise, he puts more than the big blind value into the pot. The initial minimum raise will be 10 chips, but may incease as players are eliminated. This means that if you wish to raise at any point in the game, you must raise at least 10 chips (Value subject to change. Concept of minimum raise open to debate). The next player is then faced with the same options. When it gets around to the small and big blinds, note that they already have chips in the pot. Thus, if someone raised to 30, the small blind only has to pay 20, and the big blind 10. If the bet has not been raised, the big blind as the additional option of checking, neither folding nor raising since he has already met the required amount to see the flop. After each hand the figurative deal will rotate one person to the left.
During the flop stage 3 cards will be shown to the entire community. Based on the best 5 card hand they can make, players will then bet.BETTING STARTS WITH THE SMALL BLIND. He may either fold, check, or raise, although it is unwise to fold when you have the option of checking.
During the turn stage, one mroe community card will be shown, and betting will proceed as normal.
During the river, the last community card will be shown, and betting will proceed as normal.
Additional Thoughts:
There is No Limit on the amount you can bet. You may go "All In" and bet all of your chips.
POST YOUR ACTIONS IN BOLD. This is so that I can easily differentiate table talk from actions.
When you act, please try include all of the following:
1. What you are doing. Call, Fold, etc.
2. The number you are betting/calling or raising TO. Not how much you are raising, the amount you are raising to.
3. The total amount in the pot (for others knowledge).
4. The amount of chips you have left (for my and others knowledge). I will be keeping track, you should too. I will post periodic chip counts.
If you do not act within 24 hours of the last action you automatically fold your hand (Time period open for debate). If you know you are going to be away for an extended period of time let me know. You will fold every hand you miss but still pay your blind fee if you are one of the blinds.
If you do not understand the table/dealer/blinds set up please view this image
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Holdem_Table.png.
If you do not understand anything ask questions in this thread.
I will make a new thread with the finalized rules (if changes are necessary) when the game starts.

Is curious... by bids and antes, do you mean actual bids, or just bidding points?
ShortAssassin - August 21, 2007 10:36 PM (GMT)
That actually says blinds. The game will use emotes for chips, no real money is gonna be involved.
Eburt - August 21, 2007 10:37 PM (GMT)
heh, cause I can read... I'd play but I'm no sure I remember all the rules... and its been a long time since I've played. Let m look em up and I'll get back to you.
ShortAssassin - August 21, 2007 10:39 PM (GMT)
I will post a detailed description of the rules of the game, but I want people with a general knowledge of how hold em works.
Eburt - August 21, 2007 10:45 PM (GMT)
Yeah, I think I remember everything... blinds are a little confusing though. My friends always just use an ante...

ShortAssassin - August 21, 2007 10:48 PM (GMT)
Well, after I post the rules (if I get enough people), the players can comment if they think something is too confusing, etc.

@Kasra: I don't have MSN though.
ShortAssassin - August 22, 2007 12:37 AM (GMT)
Not doing it over MSN or anything, then it's not a forum game :)
That's 4 people, 1-2 more and we're good.

Lord Michael Davis - August 22, 2007 12:52 AM (GMT)
This game will go on far too long.
Health - August 22, 2007 12:52 AM (GMT)
Nah, it looks like this game's gonna take a long time... after a week i wont have much time to come online and such.
Info please. :)
ShortAssassin - August 22, 2007 01:00 AM (GMT)
Well, how long the game lasts depends on how active everyone is. You have to act/bet in order so if whoever's turn it is to bet is gone for 5 hours then the hand gets delayed quite a bit. Now that I think about it, inactivity is really gonna kill this game.

its simple. If somebody doesn't respond within a reasonable limit, they fold automatically. If they don't play for a while, they get replaced or killed

Crap.... I only can be really active for 3 more days, and then I won't be that active...

But that time limit has to be pretty big. Like 24 hours. I mean people do sleep, and leave, and do things... work/school... I mean it would suck to lose before you even really start... (strat :()
ShortAssassin - August 22, 2007 01:18 AM (GMT)
Yeah, that's the only way it could work. I'm down to give it a shot if you guys still want to play, just be warned it might be slow.

I've played alot of hold'em before. Not sure if it will work on a forum or not.
TayYH89 - August 22, 2007 07:11 AM (GMT)
Casino Royale?
But seriously, if we were to 'draw our cards at home', who knows what the cards are? Wouldn't there be duplications of cards as well?
ShortAssassin - August 22, 2007 12:13 PM (GMT)
No I'm drawing the cards and PMing you guys.
Eriror - August 22, 2007 12:26 PM (GMT)

ShortAssassin - August 22, 2007 04:54 PM (GMT)
Question to participants: Do you want to be able to talk in the thread? Or do you want it to be strictly betting, folding, etc?
Zombo - August 22, 2007 04:56 PM (GMT)
why not? its part of the strategy.
HuroniX - August 22, 2007 05:03 PM (GMT)
I want to be able to bluff, so we must talk. A question about anties, do we raise them every 3 turns?
ShortAssassin - August 22, 2007 05:14 PM (GMT)
I'm writing the rules now, and currently going with just blinds, no antes.
