Title: Drop It
Look Into the Sun - August 23, 2007 07:00 PM (GMT)
Yo fellow pen spinners. I have a problem. I drop my pen. A lot. I don't have much grip on my pen (perhaps because my fingers are quite smooth). One example is when I practice a sonic harmonic or twisted sonic harmonic. My fingers start to slip and after a few repetitions, my fingers have slid all the way down to the tip of the pen. I tried adding a grip in the middle of the pen my bictory, but that didn't help. Anyone have any ideas?
Will practice make perfect?

Yeah of course practice will make it perfect.
Some alternatives would be frosting the barrel, or moisten your hand a little.

Everyone drops their pen. Don't worry about it.

Frosting the barrel? I know everyone drops their pen, but dropping my pen in class makes a lot of noise. Every couple of seconds, my pen drops. Then again, I've only been spinning for a couple of months and I didn't really focus much until summer began.

Practice...I had the same level of knowing how to do the tricks but not REALLY controlling them...then I took a break from learning more tricks and just spent like a week solely on random spinning, and it just comes...sonic harmonics and w/e you want.
You (or well at least me) keep realizing through out the learning curve that constant practice just beats everything.
About dropping in class: I do the same sometimes, I even try to do aerials in class lol.
My advice is that if you're not working on tricks that require a lot of speed or have a lot of spinning motion, just take your notebook, preferably a spiral one, open it up the middle and spread it the way you want and spin on top of that. It should cut down the noise a lot.

Heres the problem: You suck at PS. Here's the solution: Practice. the end. Why does every question need a thread? I mean, are you serious? "GUYS I DROP MY PEN WUTS WRONG W/ ME???" Thats the stupidest question ive ever even heard of in the entire universe.

Take time off learning new tricks. I might just do that. It seems to be sound advice, but...only after I learn the bakfall.
Thanks for the notebook idea. I'll bring a notebook to school just for pen spinning. And practicing aerials in class is a horrible idea...
@Frisbee
There's nothing wrong with seeking advice and I just felt that the forum was too empty. Not enough posting going on, ya know? I'm thinking of creating some more threads later just to piss you off frizz.

That's what it's for.

Well in the University they don't really care :P I just sit at the back and usually do it facing one of my friends, also I don't fling it shit high :P

I like the practice on a bed, orif i'm in class, i move my chair out a bit, and spin so if it falls, it lands on my lap or something.
or you can just pop 'n lock first..

ah.. this is the super slippery fingers problem? to solve this, do some studying, do your homework. after writing for some time, your hands will get a little moist from griping the pen and writing for too long. then you can spin with the ease of getting good grip on the pen..
i get this problem immediately after i shower too. practice may solve it eventually, as i can do simple tricks even if my hands suck. but if i'm trying to learn something and my hands are too slippery, it will result in lots of noise and my pen flying across the room. :banghead:

No, but it will make the situation one hell of a lot better.

I believe "frosting the barrel" is sanding the barrel of your pen(assumed rsvp) so it looks like its frosted with ice. The etching gives it more grip i guess. You could also take some strong nail polish remover. It etches the surface of the pen. I learned the hard way :(

oh no please don't sand it.. if will make it even more slippery.. if you play yo-yo, its like putting a satin finish on the yo such that it grinds better.. in other words it slips more.

So the best way to get a better grip is to just practice? :|
That's a long solution.

Don't frost your pen. I tried it. In my opinion. It makes it feel softer. Not etched. It slips worse than a moist hand and smooth plastic. Keep it smooth, practise, and maybe use lotion, wait a while and spin.

Haha! Really?! Your teacher only allows you to use a stub of a pencil to write?! That's funny as hell
