Title: What do you use for modding?
Description: cutting/sawing/sanding...
nike t - February 22, 2006 10:11 PM (GMT)
how do u saw/cut a pen barrel and wut type of tool do u use?
fung0wd0d41 - February 22, 2006 10:38 PM (GMT)
hwa i do is i cut alittle into the tube and tehn use plyers to pull it off hen i sand it down :) so simple
TurbulentTurtle - February 22, 2006 11:53 PM (GMT)
I use a hand saw that I have. It's pretty small so it's pretty easy to use.
killsburydohboy - February 22, 2006 11:55 PM (GMT)
I use a pocket knife, but that's getting dull, and it takes a long time. This is why I try not to make mods that cut stuff, but for the HGG^2 I might make an exception.
nike t - February 22, 2006 11:58 PM (GMT)
wut about hacksaws? do they work?
Interfector155 - February 23, 2006 12:36 AM (GMT)
I use a hacksaw. Works fine for me.

X-Acto knife and a lot cutting. :P
I no longer make any mods that require cutting the barrel. If you plan on making a lot of them, then you should probably go buy a small hand saw to use. Sometimes, hardware stores have them really cheap. |

u use xacto to cut, i used it to try to make an mmx once, gave up in a minute,
how long does it take to cut the g2 barrel wit an xacto cuz i wanna make an ammx
sketching - February 23, 2006 03:44 AM (GMT)
I don't time it, that would probably upset me. :)
I drill a line of small holes all around the barrel using the tip of the x-acto, rather than actually cutting straight through. After finishing the drilling, you can just snap the barrel and sand the edge.

ok thnks, i jus finished making an ammx and a VERY good pen, i like it better then mx i guess. well fung0wd0d41 told me u can jus flame ur xacto so it can become real sharp and jus slice through, it works so good idea.
wish i new that wen i was making ammx <_<
jasonsigar - February 23, 2006 08:11 AM (GMT)
I use the blade from a hacksaw. It can cut right through G2 barrels in about a minute.
DarkArcher - February 23, 2006 08:28 AM (GMT)
Wire cutters do a real good job. Wrap a layer of tape around the barrel once to have it as a guide. Follow the line (edge of the tape) closely and cut. You will end up with a very smooth and straight cut, only minimal filing is needed.
Ps: I really think I need to post a video on how to cut soon.
Yiep - February 23, 2006 09:06 AM (GMT)
I use kind a hacksaw, its really small. But it really does the job. It gives a pretty rough surface as a result, thats why i allways measures about 2 mm plus, and files down the rest to get a flat and smooth surface.
Driphter - February 24, 2006 06:12 AM (GMT)
I use a dremel for all of my modding. (Cutting, sanding, polishing, finishing, etc.)

Sathon - April 18, 2006 02:10 AM (GMT)
I use a nail file...for a LONG time. I mean mmx, hgg2, rsvg2, and other cutting mod.

Huge file
Hack-saw
x-acto knife
Teflon or Painter's tape, as well as Scotch tape
and a small drill-bit-like screw driver I found in my garage for the back cap of RSVPs--- does the job in about 20 seconds.

Sticky?
Gerber multitool
Screwdrivers: Phillips and flathead
Scissors
Pliers
Iron needle with pointed tip
I need:
File
Hacksaw
Drill bits
Ruler (metric & regular)
Dremel (CAUTION: dangerous power tool. Only someone who has experience with power tools should use this tool)
Clamp-on bench vise
The Dremel is probably a better idea than the hacksaw because it is a lot easier to cut through material. You can also use it to sand down parts. So in essense, it can replace both the file, drill, and the hacksaw. However it's a very dangerous tool and should be used with extreme caution. Wear protective goggles and make sure no one is around you when you use it.

Since both this thread and the nike t one have good posts already, I'll just combine them. Stickying sounds good too, hopefully that will keep things here.

Glue

sticky tape, teflon tape
a fake swiss army knife

I use scissors that are made to cut lexan which is what bodies of rc cars are made of. You can get then from rc hobby shops. They cut through G2s very easily. With these I can cut straight through a g2 in about 5 seconds.
Here is a link that shows them.

Dog nail Clippers work good for me. they cut barrels great.
superscience890 - June 24, 2006 03:10 AM (GMT)
A plier, some masking tape, and a kitchen knife XD
Dr1v37h38u5 - July 11, 2006 11:44 PM (GMT)
a dremel, but it warps the plastic on some pens if i set it at a too fast setting. (it makes a slight bump at the cut (also, as a dremel cuts very quickly, i sometimes mess up and but the wrong place))
a large metal file (i miss with it a lot. (scrape up the wrong part of the pen))
nail clipper
wire cutter
x-acto knife
hack saw (sometimes (i tend to miss with this also))
epoxy
teflon tape (EDIT: pressed add reply to quickly and forgot the "tape")

Toast has this problem where he only spins bictories and generally people use chopsticks to pop out the plugs in the back of round stiks.
Seriously toast, you have a sickness.
