SPS Retractable: By Me!

Parts and Tools Needed:

1 - 5 Staples
1 RSVP
1 G2
1 G2 Clicky section (Only the blue/ Black parts, not the entire barrel)
Sand Paper (Or something else to sand with)

Tutorial:

1. Strip the G2 and the RSVP completely down.

2. Break the Clip off of the RSVP and the Blue clip and ring part of the G2.

3. Cut the Tip part of the RSVP untill there is 1 inch of the barrel left. ( the barrel part under the grip)

4. Cut the threaded part of the G2 Tip section off.

5. Cut the rear section of the G2 as if you were to make an MMX. (The threaded part of the G2 has to be cut off.) Cut it so that from the back of it (where the blue/ black part sticks out) to the place where you cut is 1 3/4 inches.

6. Now the tricky part. To mod the Ink Cartridge of the RSVP. Take one of your staples and wrap it around (like as if you stapled it) the ink barrel From the Tip of the metal part 1 inch down. (This may take a few tries to get right. You also might want to crimp it with a pair of pliers. Not too much or else you'll get ink all over you.)

7. Sand the Threaded part of the RSVP down just enough so that the rear G2 barrel part will fit around it nice and tight, but you can get it off. (Note: Don't sand too much as it will become too fragile and break. I have done this a couple of times)

8. Sand down the Barrel part of the RSVP (that goes under the grip) untill you can fit the G2 tip part on it tight, but you can still get it off. (Not too loose or you will have it shoot out when you click it.)

9. Assemble the rear part of the G2 as if you were a normal G2. Take the extra and put it in backwards.

10. Slide the G2 Assembly on the back of the RSVP.

11. Put the Ink in from the FRONT. This is important!!!!

12. Put the bottom of the G2 (with spring) onto the barrel part of the RSVP

13. Take the RSVP cap and put it over the G2 Clicky part.

And you have a SPS Retractable.
The RSVP cap is there for weight issues. If it wasn't on it, it would be front heavy. To use it just take it off and click. To spin just put it on and spin away. A nice retractable mod with left over parts. I don't have a camera to take pics with, and my scanner broke... (dam dell scanner). Well I hope you like!

i call it cyborg cuz it has a metal sound when spinning, and has a metal on it although its covered in plastic(or flesh), get the idea?

Pros:

Cool Sound (Good with Finger Pass)
Quite durable to me
Heavy
Symetric = Balance
Writable
Cool idea to it IMO

Cons:

idk the cost really, i just found most of these pens, i roughly spent 2 bucks, found the rest of the pens
To some...ugly
Sorta hard to do with infinity, although i made up my own infinity for it to work on this pen
and i guess, sorta too long maybe?

eh its kinda crappy
materials needed
playcolor2
2 pilot g2
papermate profile

cut the the g2 barrel(any length) makes it bigger or smaller depending on how much u cut
cut the papermate profile and put it on the g2 but before u do that tape one opening so nothing gets out
take off caps off ur playcolor2 and put the g2 barrels as caps and there u go
for more weight i add bb gun bullets in there
weight can be changed depending on how much of the barrel you cut

pros: reuses playcolor2, good feel(imo), any length possible, weight can be adjusted, balance can be adjusted
cons: 4 pen mod, takes a while, waste of g2 barrels, nasty looking

usd: 3.22(around there)

I wanted a pen that looks like a normal pen while you're spinning it, but I also want it to look like a normal pen while you write with it. Here's what I came up with.

Pens Needed:
Uniball Signo (one with a clear body works best for inserts)
Hybrid Gel Roller (the kind without the silver grip)
G2
Papermate Write Bros. (I think kilometrico is the same thing)
user posted image

Tutorial:

Take grip, tip, ink tube, cap, and back cap off of signo.

Cut G2 tube about 5.6 cm, and fit signo tip inside the threaded part of the tube.
user posted image

Cut signo about 1 cm from the top of the grip area. File it down so the G2 tube fits on nicely. Make sure the G2 tube fits on tight when an insert is wrapped around the grip area.
user posted image

Take cap off of the HGR (Hybrid Gel Roller). File down the back part of the signo so the HGR cap fits on good. I wrapped a little tape on mine because I filed too much.
user posted image

Take the tip out of the Write Bros.
user posted image

Wrap some tape around the back of the Write Bros. tip, and make sure it fits in nice inside the back of the signo when an insert is wrapped around it. The pic is without an insert.
user posted image

Now assemble the parts together. Put the Write Bros. tip in the back of the signo, put the HGR cap on the back of the signo, put the G2 tube on the front of the signo.
user posted image

Put in inserts to keep the pen together and to make it look better. You can also put an insert in the cap if you want. I just used white paper because I was too lazy to make an insert. Throw on a grip if you want.
user posted image

Writing position. Take the cap off and put it on the other end.
user posted image

You can break the clip off if you want.
If you want more weight, then you can put sticky tac in the signo tip and inside the HGR cap. Take an ink tube and get the little rubber thing inside the cap out. Put some sticky tac inside a rolled up insert and put it in the cap.
You can probably find any stick pen and use it instead of the write bros., but a bic stic won't work, it's too big.

Video of spinning and balance.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6xFOGQCCnMc

Stats:
17.5 cm
19.4 cm in writing position
Weight is a little lighter than MX
Total cost to make: Depends. If you have to trade then it will cost more. I suppose it's around 3-4 USD for the pens.

Pros:
Double tip feature

Cons:
4 pens to make the mod
maybe short for some
kind of hard to make because of cutting and filing

You can probably use the double tip concept with other mods.

The RE stands for retractable, and the R and P is kind of a short form for RSVP which is used in this mod. The G refers to the G2 used in the mod. It should be pronounced as a word.

Pens needed:
1 Pentel RSVP *with empty ink tube*
1 Pilot G2 *with half empty ink tube*

1) Preparing the RSVP:

Take out the cap and unscrew the back cover of the barrel, you don't need these. Take out the grip. Cut off the metal writing tip of the empty ink tube so you have a long clear plastic tube.

user posted image

2) Preparing the G2:

Break off the clip of the G2 and file it down till it's quite smooth. Remove the grip and cut it in half. Fit the smooth half of the grip onto the back of the G2, at the clicker part. Note: in the picture the ink tube is full. You should use a less then half empty ink tube.

user posted image

3) Cutting the writing end of the pen:

Refer to the picture. Place the top half of the G2 grip as close as possible to the tip of the G2 front barrel, but not too close that you can't write with it. The RSVP grip goes right below it. The base of the RSVP grip should cover the threaded end of the RSVP barrel. Cut the G2 front barrel as shown in the picture. After cutting, the G2 barrel and RSVP barrel should touch each other and be covered by the RSVP grip.

user posted image

4) Cutting the clicking end of the pen:

Refer to the picture. You will need to cut the tip of the RSVP barrel and the back barrel of the G2. Cut the RSVP barrel roughly 2cm from the tip. Cut the G2 barrel roughly 2.2cm from the screw threads end. Smoothen it out and fit the G2 onto the RSVP like you would with a MMX. The newly cut tip of the RSVP should align as close as possible to the groove on the inside of the G2 barrel, with the G2 being able to fully fit onto the RSVP. (see picture) Slowly file off the barrel if they do not align, until it fits nicely. The G2 barrel will not fit tightly onto the RSVP, so you will need to put an insert. (For size of insert, refer to part 7 below)

user posted image

5) Ink tube cutting:

Now you need to cut the ink tubes to size to fit in properly. If you'll notice, the G2 ink tube gets stuck about 1/3 into the barrel (pushed in from the threaded end of the RSVP barrel) so you'll have to cut think ink tube. Cut about 3cm off the back of the G2 ink tube (this is why I said half full ink tube), push out the tube cap with the RSVP ink tube, and fit it onto the shortened G2 ink tube.

user posted image

6) Assembly:

Now you'll need to assemble the pen before you can measure the required length needed to be cut off from the empty RSVP ink tube. First, superglue the RSVP grip onto the threaded end of the RSVP barrel. Don't use too much glue or it will leak out when you squeeze the grip on and create a mess. Once the glue dries, put the shortened G2 ink tube into the barrel, and then insert the G2 front barrel into the RSVP grip. (see picture)

Put the RSVP ink tube into the RSVP barrel, going in by the clicker side, and then put the G2 back barrel onto it. Make sure the RSVP ink tube goes into the clicker part of the G2. You'll see that the ink tube is too long, such that the G2 back barrel cannot reach the RSVP barrel. Slowly start cutting off the RSVP ink tube, shortening it bit by bit till it finally fits just nice, allowing the G2 barrel to fit onto the RSVP barrel, and it must be able to click nicely. Note, don't cut off too much of the ink tube, or the clicker will be loose, causing the pen to rattle and not click properly. The exploded view of the assembly is below.

7) Inserts:

To be able to fit the G2 barrel tightly onto the RSVP barrel, you need an insert. The insert has to be on normal paper, and has to be only 1 sheet thick. Thicker and the G2 won't fit. Wrap it around the shortened RSVP tip and push the G2 barrel on.

These are the inserts I made:

Balance, in comparison with RSVP MX:

Stats:

Length: 20.2cm
Weight: 19 grams (RSVP MX: 18 grams)
COP: 10cm from clicking end, 10.2cm from writing end
Cost: Less then US$2

Pro:
- 2 common pens needed only. Cheap and easily accesible.
- Equal sized barrel along the whole length, no caps or bumps to affect spinning.
- Long with COP nearly at center.
- Durable, with 'shock absorbing' grips. No signs of cracks after 1 week of testing.
- Refillable with G2 ink.
- Grips on both sides. Equal feel on both sides of the pen.
- Great for infinity's and sonics.

Cons:
- Difficult to make. Requires precision cutting. Time consuming.
- Insert can only go in a certain length into the pen, leaving empty gaps in between.
- Too long and heavy for newcomers to learn fundamental tricks on.
- Requires nearly empty ink tubes. G2 ink can only be refilled when on low ink.
- It's a gel pen. This may cause leakage under excessive dropping.

Things to consider:

Originality: It's different from all other retractable mods I've seen. And cheaper then most too.

Appearance: Well, since the insert does not cover everything, you can see the parts of the pen joining together, which gives it a 'broken up' look. How you like this look, I don't know.

Spinnability: Good COP, good weigth and length and smooth feel to the pen. See video for more info.

Durability: See last part of video. Dropped from height of about 1.5m.

Creativity: Using the ink tube to push another ink tube. Holding the pen together with the grip. Method of joining the G2 to RSVP.

Overall: Is this mod worth your money? Dude, it only uses 2 pens to make a retractable mod! It makes full use of the G2, and you will only have a RSVP cap leftover, which you can reuse on a double capped RSVP, or StriderBlade's cyborg above.
