Start with the fundamentals (Thumbaround, sonic, charge, fingerpass), then the reverses, and go from there.

Edit: If it helps, I've learned all my tricks to date in this order:
Fingerpass
Thumbaround
Sonic (12 > 23)
Charge 12 and 23
Infinity
Extended infinity
Double infinity
Sonic reverse (23 > 12)
Sonic (34 > 23)
Sonic reverse (23 > 34)
(Big hiatus from learning new tricks)
Korean backaround
Twisted sonic

Sonics go from 23>12 and 34>23. The reverses are from 12>23 and 23>34. Maybe you got them mixed up.

I learned TA for my first trick. helpful if you wanna do alot of around tricks in a combo.
