Title: Paul Peschisolido

appointed manager of newly promoted Burton Albion, next year will be in the Football League's League 2 (4th division for those keeping track).
In an interview with BBC 5 live (care of the podcast) he was told he was the first canadian manager in the football league, he said he hadn't thought about it because he said "I don't even see myself as Canadian anymore". Well i guess if you're future and your family will be in England for the long haul... but still, bit of an interesting thing to say.

Meh. He's lived there forever. He's literally married to the Island now.
I'm really happy to hear that Pesch is getting this chance. Regardless of how he feels he gave up a lot playing for this country.

oh I know, with his current set-up he'd be crazy to come back.
Just something that stuck out.
Although i think he referred to text messages "from back home" meaning Canada in the same interview, so maybe a bit pedantic bringing that up.
good luck to him in management though.

It would take someone like Hitler or Napoleon to bring some nationalism FOR CANADA to Canadians these days. It sure doesn't help when people keep using that effin' coin phrase though.
I suppose you have to take a beaver's tail across the eye to smack some pride into you these days.
Fuck we need to make a World Cup, then enforce the flag hanging law that dictates no other nation's flag may fly higher than our own. We'd look like our flag-waving neighbours to the south in no time.

I might be off on this, but when I'm in Canada, it seems like I see alot more Canadian flags than I do US flags when I'm at home.

maybe it's a perception thing, everytime I'm in the USA, I notice the times where there are an obscene amount of flags. I've noticed it a couple of times here too, but less so. That might be just because we get used to seeing the flag so much we start noticing it less than when we're out of our habitat.
No question that as a nation, our corporations and government buildings like to put up the flags much more than many countries... If that's our own doing, or a practice inherited from our neighbours, who knows...

I dont know about that. I have to go to the Lockport, NY area way too much for my liking and almost every other house from the border to Lockport seems to have has a US flag.
Maybe I just dont notice the Canada flags, but I rarely see them. When I was in Wales though I noticed that a lot of houses/apartments had flags in the window.

You might be right, I guess I can't make a comparison to that. When I'm in Canada is usually on a highway or in a city, not in a residential area.
Aside from actual flags, it seems that many Canadians have shirts, hats and backpacks that have the flag on them. I don't see those too often in the US.

He hasn't been called up by Canada in many many years but I'm sure he would have continued to play for Canada as long as possible if he'd been asked.
My personal take on what he said is that it's not so much that he doesn't feel Canadian, it's more that he doesn't feel like a foreigner in England anymore.
He's so fully integrated into the English lifestyle that he is English but I'm sure that if anybody asked him his nationality, he'd say Canadian with zero hesitation.
I'm also thrilled for him. I hope he can use this opportunity to best advantage. It's a great opportunity.
Good luck Pesch!
