What a sad sack squad...
Dont get me wrong, it isnt our A nor B squad... but my gosh. These guys are playing on the skids of europe.
I expect a Cyprus win...

I don't mind this line-up against Cyprus. It's about adding depth.
I think they'll show enough Hart to get a win...

Kind of surprised Begovic didn't get the call.

Not only that but how many are established starter for their clubs? I count only 3 (Jackson, DeJong and Stalteri).
Also note that half of these players have seen minimal playing time with their clubs in the last year (Ornoch, Lars, Jaime, Kenny, Cann, Ricketts, Pozniak, Issey).....it's not looking good.

I like adding depth, but when your depth comes from the likes of Charlston, Finland, and the 2nd divisions of many shitty leagues its scary.

May as well call Julian Uccello while we're at it.
I guess there's no point wondering if this game will be on TV?

I'm sure we will track down a bizarre, half-functional Greek web stream.
Failing that we will all just gather at the Vs and madly refresh as a 14-year-old kid listening on the radio in Cyprus (he discovered the board two days before after a little Google. Jeffery talked to him about a fourth division Spanish team) posts sporadic updates.

LOL. Its funny, cuz its true.
Sometimes I'm amazed at how far soccer has come in the past few years in this country.
But than I'm streaming what should be an important club match off the French CBC and I realize we still have a lot that can be improved.

3-2 if I remember correctly. Though we were down 3-0 at one point with our Colin Miller-coached defense.
If we can get a goal in this game from one of our strikers from this roster, I'll be thrilled

Finland are not a bad team nationally. Third in their group so far in qualifying, 3 wins and loss I believe. They beat Wales, with that being said, so did Cyprus. :ph43r:

Little bit harsh on those German clubs I'd say - either that or that Finnish team is a lot better than I'd give it credit for.

Hemming starts regularly for Charleston, and I think Peters started to do so at the tail end of the season for Ipswich.

Ok, I forgot Hemming but I wouldn't qualify Peters an established starter for Ipswich because he played the last 2 games of the season.

It's a decent mix (def not great). Considering the experience of this roster, it's most likely going to mean mostly vets starting with a few young guys filling in the spaces. Someone like Hemming is just there to soak up being part of the program.
One thing i will say though, is I see a few guys on this roster that would benefit from playing in MLS as opposed to getting green on the benches of europe.

Probably quite a bit - there's bound to be a bunch of MLS players for a start, and maybe a few European players who are injured or still have club committments for this match - and there a whole bunch of those. Marcel De Jong is another as his club is playing an extra game in the Dutch league. He has been replaced by Eddy Sidra, a youngster with Energie Cottbus' reserves, and Daniel Imhof has also been called in to get the roster up to 18 (it was at 17 before):

that'd be a first cap for Sidra, if he plays, no?! (has he been on the roster before, or in a camp, even?)

Most definitely it would. I can't immediately recall if he was on this year's U20 team alongside Nana at the back - I must be getting old!

Okay check that, the CSA has clarified that they had the wrong Imhof listed:
http://www.canadasoccer.com/news/viewArtic...p?Press_ID=3652Yes, that's right, they called up Dominic Imhof, Daniel's younger brother, who plays, if I have this correct, in the Swiss 3rd tier (apparently the Swiss have 9 tiers of professional soccer - who knew?).
Dominic is a defender, and would be making his first apperance for Canada at any level, assuming he sees the pitch. Good for him for getting called up, lets hope he's better than his club level suggests.

The game isn't on a FIFA date, so there could have been a lot of clubs who turned the game down even before the players had a chance to.

Looks like its livescore.com for this one.....
The CSA does have their usually-late-to-update matchtracker:
http://www.canadasoccer.com/tourney/FIFA_W...asp?gameId=1746All it tells us right now is the starting line-up for Canada:
GK- Hirshfeld
D - Sidra, Cann, McKenna & Hastings
M - Peters, DeGuzman, Ledgerwood & Issey (not going to win too many midfield headers with their overall height)
F - Simpson, Jackson
Gian-Luca - May 30, 2009 05:48 PM (GMT)
HT - 0-0
"The match started with both sides pushing each other back and forth, but little was made in terms of offensive chances. Jaime Peters did drive a low shot wide in the third minute and Cyprus did create half a chance with a long bouncing ball in the 23rd minute. Cyprus forward Marios Ilia went up and over goalkeeper Lars Hirschfeld, but Canadian defender Kevin McKenna was there to clear the ball with ease.
In the 28th minute, Cyprus was awarded a free kick from 28 yards out after Canadian Richard Hastings collided with an opponent. Cyprus fired a low hard shot that went straight into the Canadian wall. Cyprus had an even better chance five minutes later as captain Yiannis Okkas fired a shot from the top of the box. The shot, however, sailed wide of the net."
Soldeed - May 30, 2009 06:12 PM (GMT)
1-0 Canada
53' Goal scored by Canadian player Simeon Jackson.
