holy crap! lol who saw the first minute of the canada usa broadcast just now? Some kid had a sign that said 'Sinclair lets see 100' funny thing, the 00's in hundred were full circles, beige in colour, with two red dots (prolly maple leafs) in the middle....lol i burst out laughing.

Rudi - May 25, 2009 11:09 PM (GMT)
Goal by Shannon Boxx. 1-0 US.

Not good for Canada, but I love the name. :ph43r:

Mel - May 25, 2009 11:25 PM (GMT)
I can still see the lacross lines. I think that's why Canada is losing.

Where's the U-Sector banner? Oh...right... ;)

Rudi - May 26, 2009 12:03 AM (GMT)
HT 2-0 US.

Awful first half, you can see Canada is still trying to adjust to a possession game under the new coach, and the US is the last opponent you want to be facing in a time of transition.

Mick - May 26, 2009 12:52 AM (GMT)
4-0 for the USA now. Who's the keeper for Canada? She's terrible. Where's Erin McLeod?

Rudi - May 26, 2009 12:57 AM (GMT)
And it ends 4-0 for the USA.

Ugly game to watch from a Canada perspective as the scoreline would suggest, you can see the Canadians were struggling to keep possession against a team far more comfortable in that style of game.

If there was a bright spot, for me it was the play of Jodi-Ann Robinson in the middle. She's a tricky little CM with a lot of skill. I think she'll be a fixture for this new Morace-led Canuck squad.

All in all, a learning experience for a team that is trying to actually play soccer rather than rely on sheer athleticism.

Mick, Erin McLeod is just coming back from a very long injury layoff. She's Canada's number one when healthy without a doubt. Much more in command of the area than Leblanc is.

Ah, that explains it. I was worried there was a change with the new head coach.

I only watched the last 15 minutes or so but Matheson impressed me with her drive and skill, seemed to be one of the only players that didn't give up.

I think you are describing Parker (short blonde girl, correct?) - Robinson is a striker & was playing outwide most of the game.

That was mostly humiliating - you can see why they'd prefer to play Japan instead of the US as they try to learn how to pass the ball around the pitch instead of Pellerud's hoof-ball tactics that they endured for the past 7-8 years.

What I saw of this match... I wish to forget.

What I missed of this match... I am greatful.

I was describing Robinson (definitely not blonde), who drifted inside a lot and seemed as though she should have been playing there the whole match. I could be forgiven for calling her a CM as she played out 'wide' the same way DeRo does at times.

Parker was decent as well, the first I had seen her play.

Totally agree.

They were trying stuff we haven't seen in a decade. If they put that together a bit more and play against other teams, they will do very well.

I liked the little gremlin in the middle #8

Agreed.

They really didn't need to this right now with a new coach and a whole new set of tactics. I was pleased to see them keeping the ball on the ground and working it about.

If this what the future will bring, it will bring better things. We stagnated and decomposed under Pellerud's fifty year old tactics.

For all intents and purposes, the new coach is starting from scratch.

A competitive game against Japan would have been just the ticket. Instead, we get trounced by the USA but who cares.

As this team rebuilds, we will get trounced again but it is all in a good cause.

I would feel bad writing the chants that we conjured up during this game lmao

Heather Mitts and the ref were easy targets.

It was a horror show , what little energy there, was RPB generated amidst 113-114 taken over by Brampton soccer moms and their offspring ... maybe 6000 tops in BMO , ,didn't see anyone in Gate or BMO i knew ,,

What little excitement was at the Gate , the GILF trying to pick up my coworker explaining the diff between Hooters breasts and real life Toronto Female breasts ... to

i liked the hard - working right winger with the bandanna who was trying to create stuff .....but apart ....

10,255 according to ussoccer.com. So roughly half full, but obviously not the same atmosphere as TFC.

Another interesting fact I did not know, first time since 2001 that these teams have played. Why not have a very year or two friendly, playing once a decade is ridiculous.

Ultra & Proud - May 26, 2009 03:20 PM (GMT)
Ugly match. The new pssession game just couldn't get going against the Americans. The US squad seems a little more physically imposing than ours with the exception of Sinclair. Not much good to say about Canada other than the work ethic and decent tackles from Matheson. She's a good little player.

It's the first time since 2001 that they've played a friendly in Canada.

They last played at the Beijing Olympics in August 2008, a 2-1 extra time victory for the US in the quarter-final.

Those who wanted to stand and sing (a little) all went into 112. So it wasa RPB/U-Sector mix. The U-Sector guys were all at the top...there was about 10 of us.

The highlight was The Massive with 35 people and soccer moms staring at us like we were a display at the zoo...

It’s a different crowd, that’s for sure. Meh. I’d go again. There are worse ways to spend a Monday night.

SweetOwnGoal - May 26, 2009 03:58 PM (GMT)
Oh, and it's time to thank Kara Lang for her service to the country and move on....Pellerud killed that player.

I'm always proud to say that my sister played with her back in their OYSL days. I believe Matheson was playing a year up, was even smaller, but stood out back then. She had a level of soccer IQ well beyond what anyone else on the field was exhibiting and I remember saying to my Mom that she was a player I could see making the national team. Hopefully she'll find a home in the new possession oriented system. I thought the intelligence I had seen was really wasted under Pellerud.

socceronly - May 26, 2009 04:33 PM (GMT)
I think this board actually needs a word substitution for Pellarud.

Not sure what it should be. Mr. Long Ball ?

Yeah what's with that? Every time she had the opportunity to burn someone on the wing... she would hold the play up and let the US players find their footing.

zacRWE - May 26, 2009 07:39 PM (GMT)
I like the work rate of the little engine Kelly Parker. She just didnt have the finesse to slot a great pass or have a dangerous shot on target.

This was bad scheduling.

Sounds like there was a good club turnout but with the game being on a Monday night late in the school year it wasn't what it was for the Canada-Brazil game last year.

When it comes to the TFC fan base a weeknight friendly after a stretch of of nine home games in seven weeks (five of them in May) was just one game too many.
