Hopefully we can get more than one table of U-Sector at scallywags on friday.
Let's make it 5 wins in a row for The HART Foundation.

I'll probably be able to make it for this one.

It looks like Canada has officially progressed from the group stage now that Mexico and Panama seem to have tied....
ps. Mexico 1 reds + coach with a red..... ouch

Well it was the coach and one player while two Panamanian players were ejected.
He was tossed for kicking a Panama player who reacted and got a red himself. In all honesty, the ball had gone out and the coach had tried to stop the ball. Instead, he caught the player.
I didn't think the Panamanian deserved a red.
Even the two other reds were very debatable IMO.
The game became a joke with a lot of projectiles thrown on the field one hitting a Panamanian who had just been stretchered off.
Play stopped in the 80th for 10 minutes and then for another four in stoppage time. Ref finally had enough and called it after twelve and a half.
The Houston stadium is amazing but doesn't have those collapsible tunnels we see so often. Lots of food drink pelting down on officials and players as they went up the tunnel.

I can't say that was how it looked to me. His foot was pretty high up to be able to stop a ball, if he had made contact with it he probably would have sent it flying into the middle of the field rather than stopping it. I have no idea what he was thinking, but that whole game was bizarre and neither team comes out of it looking particularly good. Was that a record for most injury time ever played in a match?

I'd bet there are others but as a result of equally bizarre situations.
The way I saw his actions, he moved his foot out to the ball but very late. That said, his foot was barely moving when the player bumped into it. A dumb move by the coach certainly but to say he was trying to kick the guy would have been over stating things IMO.

Pretty quiet so far. Canada looking hesitant. I kind of wanted a 2nd place Canada finish, based on what was happening with group C, but after last night's match, who knows.
Not much crowd there, but mostly Ticos by the sound of it.

Havent seen a lineup yet, but no JDG?
EDIT: No Gerba either.
Guess Hart is resting them
Rudi - July 11, 2009 12:00 AM (GMT)
Stalteri, De Guzman and Klukowski are all on yellow cards. Yellows do not carry over into the quarter final stage, unless a player has two.
Gerba is likely just being rested as he was pretty gassed last game.
Aljarov - July 11, 2009 12:42 AM (GMT)
Jesus, these Setanta guys are killing me....
Julian [aka Simeon] Jackson, Danny [aka Jaime] Peters?! WTF!
Fucking hell, you don't know your own national team players?
And NO.....Sutton doesn't play for TFC you clowns.
Nice first half, slower 2nd. gerba in now. Great to see Canada passing the ball around aklthough in a differnt way to the other games with no JDG. This one could go either way

And he keeps calling Sutton - Paul Sutton - over and over again. Yeah buddy, we're listening to an expert alright...

They aren't Canadian, are they?
ColinTFC - July 11, 2009 01:15 AM (GMT)
And they said Jonathan DG had no chance of getting in a Dutch line-up with all the stars they had on that side.
As I posted in one of the other match threads, they do know little...
marktci - July 11, 2009 01:35 AM (GMT)
So, being guaranteed first place in the group means we play next Saturday at 5:00 pm (i.e., about 2 hours after the end of the TFC match, which I'm now glad is at 1).
The question is, where to watch? (And, as far as I'm concerned, the answer is "Not the Gate").
(Oh, and by the way, I'm around next weekend.)

See separate poll.
Gian-Luca - July 11, 2009 02:37 AM (GMT)
We play whoever finishes second in group B. Currently its Haiti but they play the US and Honduras plays Grenada, so its likely going to be Honduras.
TFCAlberta - July 11, 2009 03:08 AM (GMT)
I can see us winning this thing. The only competition really is the US and Mexico and neither of them are full-strength or really all that impressive.

hey narduch, do you have video links for this one? apparently my pvr doesn't record things that I forget to tell it to record. weird.

Should be up in the morning....
neil_z_ - July 11, 2009 04:59 AM (GMT)
Good performance considering we did not have our best lineup in.
Although the possibility of winning this is definitely there, and its easy to get excited about it (hell, I sure am), I have to remind myself of monumental collapses in the past.
That being said, this time we actually have a coach who seems to harness our talents better than anyone that we have in the past.
R.I.P to the 4-5-1, thank God. It's about time.
Canada-Honduras should be good. Lets get some revenge for Montreal.
(and no, I don't care that Honduras does not have their best lineup at the GC)
