Title: July 23 , If its Can v USA will you go?

YSE_MiDtOwN - July 13, 2009 11:02 PM (GMT)
On July 23rd is the 1st semi final, if canada and the us win the games would you go to chicago to witness the re-match ???

Hopefully this time we wont get fucked..... again..... but hey if we do , and have numbers why not show concacaf for ONCE that deciding outcomes of games should be left to players, not refs & linesman.

So conflicted.

We (myself, Sean, Jay, Kris) were in the front row of Soldier Field, behind the net that Atiba scored on. I am very hesitant to put myself through that again, but at the same time I think should we get past Honduras, Canada has a very good chance of winning the whole thing.

Rudi, out of curiosity, were there a lot of Canadian supporters at that match?

I ask because I am curious to know what the post game response was...

We didnt see a single canadian supporter in the whole entire field.....

But, we did run into the Dero's at boarder crossing that night, so they were there just couldnt see em...

The Mexicans were as pissed as we were, it was quite devistating.... :(

There were a couple of Canadians flags in the upper deck, remember?

No other Canadians were as enterprising as us, though. We managed to get front row seats directly behind Kasey Keller for BOTH halves. I remember when he came out in the second half, he seemed to do a double take when he saw the same five guys in Canada red behind his goal again. :D

The best part of the whole day was you getting into that shouting match with Tim Howard during the pre-game warmups. He kept asking where we were from, and you said "Toronto", to which he responded by saying he had no idea where that was. I remember yelling out at that point that it was a good thing for him it didn't take a written test to become a pro footballer.

Then you got on him about being a Man United reject, and I remember you yelling shit every time he let a ball past him during the shooting drills. I seriously thought he was going to try to get into the stands to fight you. LOL.

Fuck, that sounds hilariously awesome. There's just something about being a lonely asshole in a sea of indifference that connects me to the way supporting used to be around here. Obviously TFC is way better on the whole but there is something lost when you're just one guy in a crowd of 20,000 assholes!

I'll be going, regardless of who plays.

I'll be going down no matter what. If Canada makes it though we'll be laughing and that roadtrip was legendary. I'm definitely going down and anyone wishing to go should PM me to maybe figure out how to get down there and save some money.

For anyone who hasn't been to Solider Field, it's a brilliant stadium.

We were surrounded by no such indifference.. I almost got into a shouting match with a group of bratty, obnoxious "Sam's Army soldiers" to the right of us which nearly escalated into a fight. It's too bad it didn't, because I had a hand-full of Mexicans tell me they'd happily jump in and back me up if it did. :P

That entire trip forced me to do a 180 on the Mexicans. They were amazing.

Other amazing things about that trip:

Randomly running into Sean and Kris in Union after midnight and spontaneously deciding to make the trip to Chicago.

"Jackie!"

Finally getting to see Wrigley Field, and the only picture I get of it with me in it, is of me taking a picture of a Mexican family. WTF?

The incredible atmosphere for the Mexico game, including the beer-shower goal celebrations. Mexicans were getting pelted in the back of the head with beers and they'd shrug their shoulders like it was nothing. Toronto fans get hit with a beer, and they start acting like women, bitching and crying about how their new authentic is ruined.

Learning Spanish. Well ... some Spanish ... and bringing it back to BMO. :D

KFC ("Did you get two buckets of chicken?" - "No, dude. That's the coke."

Kris chirping girls while going the speed limit on the freeway.

Chirping Tim Howard ("Are you guys going to be here on Sunday?" - "Yeah. You won't!")

The border crossing, and pulling into the truck lane, rolling down the driver-side window, only to realize the window was some four feet above us. ("Umm. Please pull over."

Sausages on Sean's record and the border security's reaction.

Running into the DeRo fam at the border.

The beyond-sketch motel we stayed at.

Kris sleeping in the car out in the parking lot. Waking up and seeing the owner of the motel mowing the lawn, as Kris slept not a few feet away.

Such a great trip.

Ugh. I want to do it again.

Is the final in Chicago?

LOL that was awesome.

That Mexican family was doing the tourist thing outside Wrigley Field just like us, and they ask you (in your newly acquired Cubs shirt) to take a picture of them and the "Canadian fans" (us, all wearing Canadian gear).

The final is in New York on July 26th.

JJ_Jace1515 - July 14, 2009 05:30 PM (GMT)
Does anyone know if there can be an organized road trip for the game in Chicago? Anyone know the best/cheapest way to get there? (e.g. bus, train) I'm definitely interested for a road trip for the CMNT if others are going.

An organized trip is unlikely. I would guess that your best bet would be to grab six other guys and rent a van - It would probably be about $50/day + gas.

Chicago I can't do. New York for the final however...

But I'm waiting to Honduras is dealt with before planning anything.

ColinTFC - July 24, 2009 03:17 AM (GMT)
"We knew from the start of the tournament it was a great opportunity for some younger players," Bradley said. "But we also made it clear we were the defending champs."

and USA rolls on with a 2-nil dominating victory against Honduras, despite NOT making this tourney a top priority by any stretch.

would have been sweet to see how our boys would have risen to this occasion after all of the previous debacles.
