Title: Nov 14: Macedonia vs. Canada [R]
Description: Match Thread
Gian-Luca - October 16, 2009 02:13 PM (GMT)
The CSA hasn't announced this, but Macedonia and FIFA have.
http://www.cansoc.org/?q=node/191Canada hasn't played since July, but for this particularly in-active month, we moved up 13 spots and gained 127 points in the FIFA rankings. We're now #53, one of our best ever rankings, and 5th in the region behind the 3 WCQ and the one still possible WCQ. Let's draw those seeding for 2014 Qualifying now before we lost 5000 points for not beating Macedonia on the 14th! ;)

And I could have sworn I already saw them play in person this year.
This whole thing drives me crazy, but it is good to see them show some initiative to set up a match... or do they even all know about it yet?
Opo - October 17, 2009 08:40 AM (GMT)
Yeah, still nothing about the game from the CSA. I wonder if they are close to getting a game on November 18th, and they want to release the details about both games at the same time?
SeanKeay - October 18, 2009 04:24 PM (GMT)
I heard the Czech Republic are debating playing us on the 18th
Johnny - October 21, 2009 11:24 AM (GMT)
Realistically, who will our keeper be?
Asmir or that Portuguese kid would have come in handy right about now

5. Greg Sutton
Bleak, eh?

I'm not 100% clear on how the cap-tie rules work now, but would playing in this fixture cap tie a player?

I think it's time to drive to Bochum, throw Dani Fernandes in a sack and force him to be that Canadian keeper "he always wanted to be".

I think you can throw David Monsalve in there, he seems to be getting a lot of starter minutes in Finland.

The game will now be played in Strumica. A town of 50,000 located 20km from the Greek border, and 30km from the Bulgarian border.

I'll just repost what i wrote on the V's board:
As a starter, i don't care how we play ... as long as we're actually playing. It's basically 4 years until crunch time for next WCQ so let's not be shy about falling on our face a few times to get some long-term team chemistry.
I would rather us play as many international dates as possible and strike out 90% of the time, then do what we've done in the past. Without prep, there will never be any results. Let's start there.
Hart has at least two years to impress (up to the next GC). If he has a good run, we can keep him on to manage the WCQ campaign. If he dosn't, well he can find a position elsewhere in the organization and we bring as high quality of a coach as possible.
That being said: 3-0 is a nice kick in the nuts.

For those interested, highlights can be found here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g8d-yd14hAsStarters (from the CSA release):
Josh Wagenaar in goal, Mike Klukowski, Richard Hastings, Kevin McKenna and Paul Stalteri in defence, Josh Simpson, Atiba Hutchison, Julian de Guzman and Patrice Bernier at midfield, Iain Hume as an attacking midfielder, and Simeon Jackson up front.
As for substitutions, Jaime Peters set the national record for appearances as a substitute (15), passing the record he had shared with Hume (14). Peters entered the match in the 67th minute to replace Stalteri. Other second-half changes were Rob Friend and Marcel de Jong for Hume and Hutchison in the 64th minute and Jonathan Beaulieu-Bourgault for de Guzman in the 85th minute.

omg, we missed 2 pks and they got 2 pks? wowzers.
ColinTFC - November 15, 2009 03:25 AM (GMT)
That highlight package made it look like it could have been 5-nil quite easily (or 5-2 considering we missed the pk's)
