Marianna: Here you go. Let me know when you're ready.
Ric: What the hell are you doing?
Marianna: I'm sorry. Did you say two over-easy?
Man: Yeah.
Marianna: Okay.
Man: I can't afford daydreams -- neither can you.
Marianna: Toast?
Man: Sure.
Marianna: No more gifts.
Ric: It was Valentine’s Day, I just saw it.
Marianna: Huh.
Ric: I thought it would go good with your new coat.
Marianna: Oh, I -- oh, it's beautiful.
Ric: No arguments about accepting anything.
Marianna: Oh, I don't deserve your kindness.
Ric: Hey, everybody deserves kindness.
Marianna: You wouldn't think that if you knew what I'd done.
Ric: What have you done?
-------------------------------------
Marianna: I have to get back to work. I need this job. And after you leave, I'm --
Ric: I'm not going anywhere, not until you answer my question. What did you want to tell me? I'm in no position to judge, okay? Whatever it is, believe me, I have done things much worse.
Marianna: No.
Ric: You said I don't know you, right? Okay, you're wrong. I know the lengths you're willing to go to to prove what you believe in. You were ready to burn this even though you knew how valuable the land is.
Marianna: Yeah, I wish I had -- even if it meant you hating me.
Ric: How could I hate you? How can I hate you for wanting to save my soul? For wanting to end the cycle that my father started in that house, where I first laid eyes on you? Marianna, I came here looking for answers, okay? And now I -- I realize I was asking the wrong question. It doesn't matter whether I have my name on -- on that piece of paper. The real question is, can I change who I am fundamentally? Can I put someone else first -- other that my daughter, I mean? Can I put myself on the line the way you did for me? And another thing I know about you -- I know you're scared of someone, right, or something? Let me help you, let me in. It doesn't matter what you say, it's not going to change the way I think about you.
Marianna: No -- no.
Ric: Please.
Marianna: No, you won't say that after you find out what I've done.
Man: Marianna, order up.
Marianna: Coming.
-----------------------------------
Marianna: Thank you, have a good day.
Marianna: The truth is I came to this country to work and to make a better life. Then I soon learned about a certain kind of American who looks at me -- you know, a woman, a -- a foreigner -- like a third-world country to control and exploit.
Ric: The bruise on your neck?
Marianna: This has nothing to do with what I'm trying to tell you.
[Phone rings]
Ric: It's Alexis -- it's Molly's mother. I told her to call me if there was an emergency.
Marianna: Okay.
Ric: Alexis?
Jerry: No, it's Jerry Jacks.
Ric: What are you doing calling me on Alexis' phone?
Jerry: Because the mother of your little girl is too proud to. She -- she wants to be strong, to manage things on her own.
Ric: Well, Alexis is the acting D.A. right now so if she's having any problems in the department, she's going to have to unfortunately go to Baldwin, all right? I'm dealing with a lot right now.
Jerry: Yes, I know -- Alexis told me you took some time off to do some soul-searching, yeah. How's that going? Any -- any grand revelations?
Ric: I told Alexis to call me if there was an emergency.
Jerry: Well, Kristina, your stepdaughter, saw the face of a serial killer, has gone into a catatonic state. How does that qualify?
-------------------------------
Ric: I can't believe this is happening again.
Jerry: I gather from Alexis' discussion with Dr. Winters that Kristina had suffered a similar episode after she saw a man shot.
Ric: Okay -- um -- tell Alexis that we've spoken and that you brought me up to speed. Um -- is Kristina there?
Jerry: Now she's asleep.
Ric: All right -- uh -- well, you tell Alexis to tell Kristina that I'm on my way.
Jerry: I'll do that, yeah.
Marianna: Your stepdaughter, Kristina?
Ric: Yeah, she -- she can't speak, she's not responding. Uh -- it's happened once before. I have to go, she needs me.
Marianna: Of course.
Ric: Look, this isn't the way I -- I wanted this to -- to be.
Marianna: I --
Ric: I mean, there's a -- there's a lot of things that I -- I want to say to you.
Marianna: I know. I -- we should just settle for a goodbye.
Ric: Yeah, for now. Goodbye, for now.
Marianna: Okay. Goodbye, for now.
Ric: Okay.
-------------------------------
Marianna: Ric!
Marianna: You -- you dropped this.
Ric: Why?
Marianna: Because now you know the question, and you have to come up with the answer.
Ric: Thank you.
Man: Your playmate's gone. Now you have to deal with me.
