Title: Hope for Hailey

Michelle - March 5, 2008 03:19 AM (GMT)

From Cindy:

Hi Everyone,

My friend and I are working on a Fundraising/Awareness event in conjunction with a Blood Drive and Bone Marrow Registry. We are working closely with the Children's Hospital Los Angeles and the National Marrow Donor Program(NMDP) on this event. It is scheduled to take place on Saturday, May 17 2008 in Los Angeles and will be in honor of my friends daughter Hailey Kent. The details are still being worked out, but expect to see several of your favorite current (and former) GH actors there. We're also hoping to get some celebrities from other shows there as well. The event will be taking place during the NMDP's annual 2 week "Thanks Mom Campaign" where, for those 2 weeks, the regular $52 fee to register to donate bone marrow (the fee is for testing costs) is waived. With the fee being waved, hopefully more people will come out to register to donate. We hope to see you guys there!

To learn more about the event and this cause that many of the GH Actors are so supportive of please join us at the forum!

Hi guys :)

Thanks for posting that here Michelle.

If any of you are planning on coming to the event on May 17th in honor of Hailey or will be in the LA area and want to donate blood please sign up. You don't need to sign in advance to register to donate bone marrow though I encourage you all to do that as well ;) And if you can't make it to the event or can't/don't want to donate blood or marrow please pass this on to those you think might be interested in doing so.

If you would like to sign up to donate blood on May 17th or have any questions lease email me at GHKidsEvent@yahoo.com or feel free to visit our forum where we have tons of info: http://s9.invisionfree.com/Hope_For_Hailey/

For those that don't know, 21 month old Hailey was kept alive (literally) by blood donations up until she was blessed enough to receive her stem cell transplant last May from an anonymous donor. And though she is far from being out of the woods, the transplant is what saved her life. She was one of the lucky few that received a life saving transplant. There are so many others out there with various diseases and disorders that are waiting for that one person who could be their match and save their life. And that one person could be you. There are also just as many thousands of people who need blood. Please consider helping out these two wonderful causes! If you can't make it to the event, please pass this info on to others! The more people that know about the event and come, the more lives that could be saved!

Chick here to read a special message from baby Hailey's mom.

On Monday, we will be announcing on our forum (linked above) some of our special celebrity guests who will be coming to the event so be sure to check the forum out on Monday! ;)

~Cindy

Thank you Yeniffer4life!! :loved:

For Everyone:

If you already plan on attenging the event on May 17th, live in the LA area, or will be visiting the LA area at that time for another reason please stop by the event and consider donating blood or registering to donate marrow. Baby Hailey's life was literally saved by blood transfusions and a stem cell transplant from an anonymous donor. And although she was incredibly blessed to find her life saving match, every single day people in need of either a blood donation or a Bone Marrow transplant die. If you don't already know someone that has been in a situation where they have needed one of these two things to survive, then chances are you will eventually. It could be your child, mom, dad, brother, sister, grandparent, or friend. Right now there is a HUGE shortage of blood and bone marrow donors out there and without them people are dying.

Even those that won't be able to make it to the event can make a difference and help save lives. Please pass this on to your family and friends and let them know about the event. We need at least 25-30 people signed up in advance that would like to donate blood. Just 10 minutes of your time can save another's life! The more people that come to the event the more lives that could be saved!

For more info on the event or how to help, please email us Please email us: GHKidsEvent@yahoo.com
* The Children's Hospital Los Angeles would prefer that people sign up in advance if they would like to donate blood. So please email us if you would like to sign up

10 REASONS TO DONATE BLOOD OR REGISTER TO DONATE BONE MARROW

*Donating Blood and Marrow may be two different things but they both have one goal: TO SAVE LIVES*

1, Someone needs blood every two seconds

2.Every year, thousands of adults and children need bone marrow transplants -- a procedure which may be their only chance for survival. Only 3 out of every 10 people that need bone marrow actually get a match. Those that do not get a match inevitably die

3. More than 4.5 million patients need blood transfusions each year in the U.S. and Canada.

4. Only 30% of patients find their bone marrow match through a sibling, while the other 70% have to look out side their family for a life saving match.

5. One pint of blood can save up to three lives.

6. During a Bone Marrow Transplant donors feel no needle injections and no pain during marrow donation because general or regional anesthesia is always used for this procedure.

7. Children being treated for cancer, premature infants and children having heart surgery need blood and platelets from donors of all types, especially type O.

8. Many patients, especially those from minority groups, cannot find a compatible bone marrow donor among those on the registry.

9. A patient could be forced to pass up a lifesaving organ, if compatible blood is not available to support the transplant.

10. YOU can save a life!
