I am trying hard to get us new friends in IRC!

Swords_McSwords - February 19, 2008 01:22 AM (GMT)
And you failed, congrats..

Dajhail - February 19, 2008 01:51 AM (GMT)
Yes, in the 10 minutes since he made this topic he has failed to lure any new visitors into IRC. Total disaster!

Captain_Toasty - February 19, 2008 03:18 AM (GMT)
man i just don't give a shit

belsammael - February 19, 2008 09:07 AM (GMT)
I'm going to IRC tonight!

tlb - February 19, 2008 09:13 AM (GMT)
I always get mega raped by adrian when I go in the IRC.

That being said, I still visit from time to time.

mooty - February 19, 2008 07:45 PM (GMT)
Whenever I'm on my computer I'm on IRC.
Basically. Sometimes I want to avoid people, because I'm just that popular. I open my IRC client and I get a barrage of PMs from all around the world. It's overwhelming.

MrFrost - February 19, 2008 07:57 PM (GMT)
I dont wanna sound stupid but what the hell is IRC? I've heard people talk about it all the time but i never really looked into it.

mooty - February 19, 2008 08:10 PM (GMT)
IRC = Internet Relay Chat

Basically you download a client, connect to a server and join a channel. In the channel there are people (who sometimes talk) (the rpg2knet channel has between 10 and 20 peeps in it at most times).

The most popular windows client is mIRC. But there are loads of them.

the rpg2knet server is irc.phrenzy.org and the channel is #rpg2knet (# means channel).

/server irc.phrenzy.org
will connect you to the phrenzy server.

/join #rpg2knet
will get you into the rpg2knet channel

why doesnt Squrell just make the forums first for rpg2knet so we all have a place to hang out then finish the rest of the site ? all this IRC seems like a little bit to involving for my taste.

mooty - February 19, 2008 08:43 PM (GMT)
Hardly. I only randomly say things in the rpg2knet channel. Being in a channel does not commit you to speaking.

lol, then whats the point?

Swords_McSwords - February 19, 2008 09:34 PM (GMT)
Epic fail.

Reinas - February 20, 2008 02:09 AM (GMT)
I've been idle in the chat for about 3 days straight.

irc has been the center of the community since like 2001, this isnt exactly a new concept. basically all of the big events on the old site were discussed and coordinated in the irc channel. by being forums-only youre missing out on possibly the most appealing part of this community.

belsammael - February 20, 2008 08:11 AM (GMT)
I'm *really* going to IRC tonight!

it just think of seems like a little much to me thats all. I dont really wanna download another program to my already croweded desktop and type in a bunch of crap to chat with no body. Maybe for a special event it would be worth it, but not every day.

**********EDIT**********

Ok, I downloaded it, but i cant figure out how the hell to use the damned thing. I tried using the info posted but it keeps saying that it cant connect. I got mIRC, if anyone could lend a hand that would be great.

Dajhail - February 20, 2008 08:44 PM (GMT)
Try clicking on the status window then typing in:

/server irc.phrenzy.org

then

/join #rpg2knet

overuse of IRC lowers your sperm count and calls impotence. IRC use is also more addictive than crack cocaine, in other news, welcome out newest chatster, Amy Winehouse.

HArry the motorsport enthusiast - February 20, 2008 10:04 PM (GMT)
mrfrost basically everything interesting that happens with rpg2knet is in the irc channel

it's the entire reason the community still exists after the site went down

belsammael - February 21, 2008 08:55 AM (GMT)
I was on IRC last night.

Were you?

I'll reinstate the java chatroom at some point.
and the forums are being done first, don't worry ;)

MrFrost - February 28, 2008 09:52 PM (GMT)
oh, good i was going to suggest that.

Linzi - February 28, 2008 11:50 PM (GMT)
Didn't there used to be a site that would allow you to use IRC without having to download the program??!? Why do I remember this being true...
