The fact you think that's a good thing is depressing.

fuck facebook. and [strikeout]myspace[/strikeout] cryspace. i highly encourage you all to disable your accounts immediately. it's a horrible waste of time, huge rumor mill, and a convenient way for people who you may not want to have a direct means of contacting you to get a hold of you. it's also a possible detriment to your professional reputation if the company you are applying to work for visits your site and sees things you may not want them to necessarily see.

i had a facebook account for over 2 years, with hundreds and hundreds of friends and i got absolutely nothing out of it but the ability to be judged by people i used to know in high school that happen upon my page randomly to "see what i'm up to". fuck that and fuck them. this shit is gay.

The privacy settings were created for a reason. You can set it so that only your friends can view your profile/pictures. And since you have the option of accepting friend requests, no one sees what you've uploaded except for the people you want to. As for keeping your professionalism, don't put up anything questionable. I've seen profiles with people smoking HUUUUUUUGE joints. I also have friends that work for non-profits and are very strict about the pictures that are uploaded of themselves and the type of captions on them. You control how others see you. It's not as harmful as you are trying to make it seem

that's all well and good if you want to spend hours a day looking through all the photos of yourself people have uploaded to facebook and tagged to your facebook page and removing tags. and i'm talking about ex-girlfriends, other people that i don't want to be able to contact me through facebook, and that includes sending and receiving messages.

i just hate it and i think it's the dumbest things since xanga.

One-t - March 12, 2008 01:08 PM (GMT)
i really hope you're trolling

Griven - March 28, 2008 05:00 PM (GMT)
you can make it so that only people you ask to be your friends actually see you on facebook.

So like...if you're tagged in a photo and someone who knows you but isn't your friend sees your photo, rather then seeing the underlined link to you they will see just plain text with your first name which makes it look like you don't have facebook and that person cannot add you.

I dunno what more privacy you want attrition?

"It is better to live in peace than in bitterness and strife" - Confucius

I'm guessing attrition has had some bad experiences. Blaming the service and not the people. Facebook; a way of connecting to friends and staying up to date with them -OR- a way for people to judge and belittle you.

Everything is seen and voiced upon with the eyes of the speaker... but I think it takes incredible wisdom to see beyond your own experiences to see the greater good (or evil) in things.

"Growth in wisdom may be exactly measured by decrease in bitterness" - Friedrich Nietzsche

sounds to me like attrition is a huge gay and all the highschool jocks found him and beat him up !!!

squirrel - May 2, 2008 08:26 AM (GMT)
nc and I had a conversation about this. we didn't really manage to come to a conclusion, other than "nobody forces your hand, if you wish to use it, do; otherwise, don't"? Oh well. Not exactly ground breaking.

I feel like i've been trolled.
