Title: gamemaking doldrums

nano - March 11, 2008 02:24 AM (GMT)
After the loss of the original 2knet site, I lost all my rpg-mojo.

Even before, it was hard to keep a steady pace working on a project
but when 2knet went away and there was no place to discuss progress
with my friends and rivals, my desire to make games just sort of
evaporated. Now it all seems like so long ago, I wonder if I could ever
regain the same zeal I had before. Seems like all my old rm2k buddies
and I just do nothing except work anymore...

Anyone else feel the same way?

Yea it's really difficult finding motivation to work on the game anymore, I open up the Sphere editor and stare at it blankly, keep it open for a bit longer, then close it.

A bunch of little girls over at Verge (mainly McGrue and Kildorf) have created a on-going contest. What do you have to do? Simply work on your game for 1 hour a week. Post your progress on a blog talking about the progress you made and thats it. Oh, and heckle your worthless nemesis'.

Feel free to check it out, scroll down on the main page or look into the forums on the Verge or look at the scoreboard and check out the blogs of the competitors, Gruedorf Scoreboard.

Working on hobbyist things for me is really tough because of the amount of time I have. Perhaps a development blog would be good for rpg2knet as well . . .

Finding the motivation to start something is a pain, but I've found it's easier to get going if I just concentrate on one little bit of it first, otherwise I think mentally the project can overwhelm you and start to get discouraged by the amount of work it needs.
