Dungeons and Dragons.
Because Anime doesn't need maths.
Swords_McSwords - March 20, 2008 12:55 AM (GMT)
Vidya gaymes..Seriously though, both..They both have something the other doesn't.
Defiant - March 20, 2008 01:29 AM (GMT)
DND for sure, Anime is for guys who can't get bitches.
BrianOnTheRocks - March 20, 2008 01:44 AM (GMT)
ACTUALLY
Despite popular belief, since our 'nerdy' generation has grown up, most people who play D'n'D are the 'cool' 20-somethings that like to get drunk and rock out with a good game of 'Let me roll to see if I can get drunk.'
D'n'D is actually far more accepted nowadays than Anime... to which it is seen as something 'kids and losers' watch.
Mind you, I like some anime, and I have played D'n'D so I'm neither here nor there. Just putting it out there that in a matter of opinion, it really depends on who you are talking to.

Bitch please! DND is soooooo nerdy. Any roleplaying that doesn't end in sex is nerdy period
I've seen roleplaying like DND using anime characters... next level of nerds? I think so.
My opinion is biased of course because I love anime and most boys that I know that play DND are smelly. Brian included.
Captain_Toasty - March 20, 2008 04:44 AM (GMT)
ultimate nerd faceoff
how about a dnd ruleset based on the anime version of star trek
Griven - March 20, 2008 04:55 AM (GMT)
I've gotta say DnD...it is like the nerdiest thing ever...anime has more of an asian thing around it then nerdiness...
and in defense of the DnD players linzi...most guys i know who like anime wear button up shirts with dragons on them and are way smellier then DnD players...with long greasy hair...

I play DnD frequently with a bunch of friends, we also play Vampire:The Masquerade and other PnP games. While I agree that some guys in our RP group fit the nerd profile, I've found that guys who play DOTA and are ANIMEfans are -->EXTREMELY<--- more 'Nerd', if there is such thing, than the people who play DnD.
For example, I've met several DOTA playes who apparently believe that the most exciting thing to discuss in my meal time is about recipes and strategies using [insert random hero] along with how to synergize his cooldowns and crap. I CANNOT EXPRESS HOW I LOATHE TO LISTEN TO THAT CRAP. Regarding anime fans, I dislike their love to show the world how much they love japanese cartoons, and the mannerisms they took from [insert random anime], which are terrible as they dont fit with the general social consensus of behavior. Its just retarded when I meet someone new and say "hey hello there, my name is Peter" and they reply with "*giggle Konichiwa!" and then make a weird movement with their hand, which is the case of a crazy( and i mean crazy, she had psychological problems and was a stalker) woman-thing my friends and I met a couple of months ago.
Regarding DnD players, the only two bad things I can think of is having a teenager player making their character an anime rip-off (again, this could be considered anime) or having a terrible dungeon master directing a shitty scenario.

Seems to me that what you're really saying is that crazy stalkers are nerdier than the average D&D player.
Unless you're implying that people who watch anime turn into crazy stalkers...

I made an example of a case I experienced regarding the matter. I'm not implying anything other than the woman had serious issues and had an abnormal obsesion with anime.
The same could happen with a D&D player, but it is more likely to find people like her due to the appeal and distribution anime has.

so last night i tried out a rushed radiance build on furion, it was pretty effective. 5.25 seconds of disable combined with the extra attack damage and DPS from radiance is a potent combo
mickygor - March 24, 2008 12:15 AM (GMT)
I... can't choose :( I've never really met any DnD people before so I can't judge.
Wolf - March 25, 2008 04:23 PM (GMT)
It's hard to choose. They've both been up at almost around the same time.
But I would have to say DnD, since anime's popularity didn't really pick up till after Osamu Tezuka started producting animated versions of his series (Before then, it was just mangas) while DnD is already getting a lot of popularity in its days. But eh, still, it's quite close.
The Morphine Child - March 25, 2008 08:19 PM (GMT)
I've been to KeyCon, the fantasy convention.
I've been to AiKon, the anime convention.
AiKon had at least 80 people dressed up as Naruto characters and MUCH more cosplay.
KeyCon had a Porno star wearing a sheer bikini walking around and all the free booze you could ever want. And, well, THIS HAPPENS EVERY DAMNED YEAR!
I -know- what's more nerdy. I've seen the highest concentrations of both sides of the spectrum in their home environment. When I go to a convention and it's like a youth group with a bunch of troglodytes trying out jap each other, I tend to not return. When I go to a convention and it's like a wild frat party, well I tend to return with a stronger liver.

The anime convention that I went to years ago.. during one of the event multiple girls were walking around the stage and I could clearly see up their skirt... It was very purposeful. I really think it depends on the type of convention you go to...
With work I had to go to Bridal shows (I worked in a wedding business) Some shows were really conservative and boring, while other shows had lingerie and roleplay outfits... Every event is different ;D

Anecdote of an anecdote time!
A friend of mine was telling me of a time he played a large-scale white wolf campaign, with lots of different players and several GMs. His character was a scrawny little taxi cab driver who couldn't hold his own against a toothpick.
So a big burly Brujah challenged him to a duel. Since he is the recipient, he got to choose the location and conditions. Location: Some intersection at like, 3:00 AM. Conditions: Fight to the death. You may bring any kind of weapon you choose.
Now, for some reason or another, he had three ranks in Transport Influence. It's such an obscure ability, and he had THREE ranks in it. After talking with the GM, he managed to get a large semi truck, and had a friend cover the front grill with holy water.
Sooooo.... 70 or 80 miles an hour, toward the intersection... First was the holy damage from the grill..... Then the aggravated damage from the tires.... All eight of them... Yea, nobody challenged this guy to a duel again.
In conclusion, I say Roleplaying, simply because of how awesome and nerdy this story is at the same time.

Pot meet kettle ;)
As for being at the Anime convention... I got asked to do a CG art panel (and the
scale of sluts in pointy ears (see #8) still applies there) and man... I've found that one thing will always exist. The more cosplayers at a convention, the higher ratio of BO there will be. I swear to god that there's some sort of sick aversion to deodorant if you're wearing a big vynil costume... It's as if they're afraid the deodorant will melt their Pikachu costume and make them look like a big yellow piece of melted vomit.
I was at the fantasy convention for the games... ...and the free, glorious, booze... ...how I love booze. The best was when some drunken indian stumbled into the hospitality suites... He had a freakout and thought someone had slipped him acid :D
Besides, this debate has been decided long ago...
Dajhail - March 29, 2008 09:13 PM (GMT)
Huh, that doesn't help at all! Anime nerds and roleplaying gamers are in different columns. All this shows is that science fiction literature fans consider themselves less geeky than both of them.
I wonder where 'people who make charts about geeks' fit on the chart.

That's the point.
But if you notice, Role Players are further down the list than Anime Fans Who Insist/ Don't Care About Subtitles. :)
There we go. Anime Fan's are less geeky than Role Players, but just as geeky as Video Gamers. :)

d&d is so fucking nerdy man you know getting together with your bros drinkin a few brews smokin some dank nugs while tellin stories and makin jokes thats so nerdy yeah
anime is far less nerdy do you guys remember that episode of mijikai de gomen nasai where tomodachi finds out that his father is the leader of the evil organization CASTE who he is a member of the resistance against?? he learned how to focus his chi and release it in order to defeat the onirashi who have come from the spirit world in order to retrieve the mysterious Relic. i remember waiting up until 3 in the morning waiting for the ep to be up to anime-downloads.com with a fansub since i don't know enough japanese yet and i certainly wasn't going to wait for the crappy dub!! argh i hate dubs it takes away from the soul of the anime
