Huckabee has been on the verge of going broke for a month or so now…he’s getting votes, but no donations. After Super Tuesday, he’s sitting with 169 delegates, which isn’t too shabby, especially when you consider that around half of the delegates are still up for grabs.
He’s got a close (at least business) relationship with Stephen Colbert, since he’s done lots of stuff for the Colbert Report as gags and such. All in good fun, but it’s also, obviously, a part of his campaign strategy.
Colbert, last week, gave a tongue-in-cheek endorsement of sorts to Ron Paul, saying that he’s crazy in his opinions on the war. He continued to say that it’s as crazy as saying that Japan was going to attack the US in 1941; as crazy as saying that a hydrogen filled blimp can burn; as crazy as saying the earth goes around the sun.
Ron Paul has very similar values to Huckabee, he’s just more intelligent and consistent. By this, I mean they both are personally against abortion, against leaving the borders wide open, both are Christian conservatives.
Ron Paul also has a LOT of money
I can see one of two scenarios happening.
1) Huckabee drops out for lack of money and gives Ron Paul all his delegates; they’ve already worked together in West Virginia, and Huckabee gave Ron Paul three of his delegates.
2) Ron Paul drops out and becomes Huckabee’s running mate
McCain is a crazy war-monger who will never beat a Democrat. Romney will never win because he’s a Mormon, as much as religion shouldn’t matter. But Huckabee, while he is an idiot, isn’t completely a lost cause.
I see the second as being more likely; and as much as the fanatics probably don’t see it, having Ron Paul in the White House as VP would be a huge step forward for liberty. This opens the door for more steps in the future. President or not, the White House itself is a noble goal.
So if either happens, remember, I fucking called it.
Libertarian.
Surely, this must be one of those silly American colloquialisms, right? In all my years of public schooling, and two years of post-secondary training, I’d never heard this word.
Then I learned what it meant; and that it’s antithetical to the desires of a government-run public education system…
