Title: VOTE - Genre
Description: A decision on the genre.

BrianOnTheRocks - April 16, 2008 06:41 PM (GMT)
It seems in the other topic most have agreed on the Platform/RPG genres. It has been suggested that the amalgam of the two is what we're aiming for.

Let's make that decision final.

If 'YES' please provide comments on how stoked you are.

If 'NO' please provide your counter-argument.

With this decision we can push forward in other areas and start the process of actually designing the game! Get ready for awesome.

CLARIFICATION --

A Platform game with RPG elements. Defining 'RPG elements' as the player controlled, stat-based progression of a character. Using a system of 'points' to do so, gained from defeating enemies or achieving objectives.

Platform/RPG is ok with me, but I'd enjoy making the platform style shooter a la Metroid a lot more so voting "no"

I don't know, I just can't think of a way to make a good RPG that's short enough for us to complete in a reasonable amount of time. It's possible, but I think having a platformer that is more exploration/shooting oriented would be a lot more feasible to create, not to mention more fun.

Well, the idea is that it is a Platformer first, and an RPG second.

So, effectively, a platformer with RPG elements.

Does that change your opinion?

I apologize for not being clearer.

That would still be secondary choice. I like the metroid style idea the best, but if we end up going with a platformer with RPG elements I certainly won't complain.

But that does sound a lot more appealing than "platform RPG". The only decent platform RPG I can think of is Zelda II.

What about Symphony of the Night? That's the first thing that I think of as being a platformer RPG, and everyone loves that.

The idea I get from a platformer rpg is that the game would mostly be platforming, just there would be some RPG aspects (probably level ups/stats/equipment and not much beyond that) and so the problem of making a RPG (which is very time consuming) wouldn't really apply.

I consider Metroid a platform RPG. There's the "level up" (getting more health), and the equipment, and a rich storyline.

With a majority of the team voting the 'YES' option, the decision has been made.
