Well a lot of the IRC regulars do post on the forums, but they're still nowhere near as active as IRC is and unfortunately that doesn't seem likely to change any time soon.

I go for Colloquy. Havnt had many issues with it and its very comfortable to use. I think jonty uses it as well. ^_^

I use colloquy at work, it's alright. It has some annoying quirks though. I use Irrsi if I'm on my server and want some CLI IRC loving, otherwise mIRC 6 does the job perfectly on windows.
